  1. There's a fairly common belief that he's a good 1B that just happened to buried behind Hosmer. Would certainly be nice to move him to 1B when Josh or Jose can use a DH start.
  2. I didn't know you were allowed to swing both ways in gay dodgeball.
  3. Seems like his only substantial complaint is about the media not asking him about his charity. I think a lot of local media would have given him the kind of fluff piece about his charity work that he was looking for. Other than that, I don't really think that fans are all that different anywhere. Deep down, they only really care about the results on the field.
  4. Sounds like there's a story here...
  5. Hum... So they had all spring training to decide if they wanted to honour a pretty small contract and made the decision not to before his first PA. That's not a good sign.
  6. Amusing fluff piece from the Star about what the Blue Jays think about walk-up music. I have to say that a lot of the stuff that they say is the worst is stuff that I think makes the best walk-up music. https://www.thestar.com/sports/bluejays/2017/03/01/blue-jays-sound-off-on-the-worst-walk-up-songs-in-baseball.html
  7. OAK got Graveman, Barreto AND Lawrie for Donaldson so I don't know why you would count them in the Lawrie return. Wendelken and Erin is the only return they got for Brett Lawrie and that's nothing to write home about though I suppose it's better than the White Sox who just dumped him for nothing. You're clearly not very good at accounting but, on the bright side, at least you're not RealAccountant.
  8. The White Sox were a sub-500 team last year. They just traded Chris Sale. They ARE a rebuilding team and they just dumped his ass. That means something.
  9. Are Brett Lawrie and Jose Bautista even allowed to co-exist in the same clubhouse?
  10. Other than being cheap, why would the Jays want Lawrie? He's generally disliked and not very good.
  11. Packaged him for Kershaw in a keeper league that off-season. Good times.
  12. Man did the Jays ever get out of the Brett Lawrie business at the right time.
  13. Sniff... I knew the two of you could get along. http://s3.india.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/friendship-day.jpg
  14. You should be able to get plenty of action on that in the main board. Can probably get someone to give you good odds too.
  15. Steamer consistently performs the best of all the projection systems. This has been established mathematically. The only real choice is between Steamer on its own or Steamer as part of a composite. The Depth Charts projections itself is a composite. One of the reason they seem so close to Steamer is that Steamer puts out its projections first so for a while there, they were identical. Others things to note: a) Steamer isn't very good at projecting playing time. Crowd-sourced estimates are usually the best for that. Projecting MLB production based on MiLB data is a very volatile undertaking. Steamer gets criticized for this but I don't think it's a flaw so much as a limitation and I'd very surprised if this wasn't an issue with any system. MiLB data isn't as valuable as MLB data. There's no way Steamer or anyone else can change that.
  16. I still see a lot of people overrating his floor. "Can't be worse than" random mediocre major leaguer type comparisons. He's not guaranteed to be a Major League caliber player. He's basically been spinning his wheels for two seasons now after that 2014 breakout. Don't get me wrong. I would love for him to establish himself but nothing in his recent history really suggests he will and I don't really understand why anyone would have that expectation at the moment.
  17. Well fine then... I wonder how many people who wanted Shapiro's head (no one was pining this on Lacava).
  18. I wonder how many of the people who wanted Atkins and Shapiro's heads for not signing Price are gloating about this injury today?
  19. They need to make tweeks to the 40 man rules for sure. You shouldn't suddenly have access to a massive bullpen just because it's September. Maybe you have to fill in a lineup card with no more than 8 pitchers listed or something like that. The problem is that rules like that would be really easy to manipulate. You just take out whoever isn't fresh in the first place and for all practical purposes you still have a huge bullpen. All you would limit is the amount of pitchers per game which I suppose might still be a slight improvement.
  20. He'll be DL's and then they'll stretch his rehab as much as is allowed to get some kind of look at him and then he'll probably gets waived unless there's an immediate need.
  21. That would be a weird way to make the team.
  22. What would that prove exactly? That Ryan Goins can be useful in a pinch? No one has ever argued otherwise.
  23. Rules that have an impact on in game strategy should be a last resort IMO. The auto walk bothers me less now that's it's accompanied by other changes. It makes more sense as part of a series of changes that cumulatively are designed to speed up the game. I still think it's pretty pointless but it would be even more stupid if the expectation were that it could have any kind of impact on its own.
  24. Gruber just makes an easy target because he's a) wrong, stubborn and c) very thin skinned. Nothing wrong with expressing some wishful thinking/optimism about Pillar but to a) make bold predictions based on next to nothing and then only want to wager on those predictions if they are significantly lowered exposes you to ridicule. Do I like the form that ridicule takes? No, I don't but in spite of that my sympathy for him is quite low. This is a guy who a) has hurled plenty of abuse of his own in the past and should operate under no illusions about how his baseless predictions would be received.
  25. I can't blame them for wanting to keep Devers given their 3B situation.
