  1. I think I might simply prefer to let Buehrle run out his contract here.
  2. He's out of options. There's something to be said for going "sink or swim" with him but he hasn't done much to win people over. At the very least, I figure the Jays will keep Pompey in camp as long as possible. They wouldn't want to give the appearance of handing an everyday job to Gose.
  3. Pompey may very well never hit for average but the fan base should still be pretty easy to win over if he has a few highlight reel defensive plays. Chris Young's name has been tossed around as insurance for Pompey and that makes a lot of sense.
  4. This is as much a testament to what a tool Gose is as to how great Pompey is.
  5. Carlos Perez keeps bouncing around.
  6. Ranking Hoffman from the outside is nearly impossible. We know that he was right up there with Rodon before the injury but where to rank him now is anybody's guess. Seems like putting him after the big three prospects who reached the majors would have been more sensible.
  7. Good thing you drafted him then.
  8. Pretty solid list. The rankings for Hoffman, Pentecost and Reid-Foley are highly debattable but recognizing recent draftees is part of BA's m.o.
  9. I think his point is that the Cubs established a pattern of holding out for the best offer with the way they handled the Samaridzija trade. It might not be possible to obtain Valbuena from them without overpaying.
  10. How is leaking the name of a player you have no chance of signing good pr? Isn't that just setting up the fan base for disappointment?
  11. Really? She had nice breasts but they weren't throw out your back enormous or anything.
  12. A good catcher with a good bat is the single most impactful player you can sign.
  13. No reason to do that unless injuries force you to do it. Pentecost's biggest selling point is his ability to stick at catcher. If you're lucky enough to have him breathing down Martin's neck, that's a nice problem to have and you worry about it if and when it actually happens.
  14. Dealing with the media is part of the job description, it's not his choice. It's just something that his employers would naturally expect and frankly he says so little of substance that it's ultimtely inconsequential anyways. It's just a show of good faith to the fan base. I really can't see how it would impact his ability to make the Jays a playoff team.
  15. Who does he think he is? Madison Bumgarner?
  16. This is just a nothing post linking to Davidi's piece but I'm sharing it because I love the pic they used for Happ. http://www.thescore.com/mlb/news/620207
  17. Both players had a 1.6 WAR last year. Estrada had 3.2 the year before and Lind had 1.8 WAR. Without going point by point through your argument, I guess it's not a stretch to say it was a buy low especially when you factor that Estrada is cheaper.
  18. I like Estrada a lot but is trading one your best hitters for him really buying low?
  19. I don't really see a ton of financial flexibility though. Smoak and Estrada aren't that cheap and Happ's option was picked up. Unless Estrada is there specifically to facilitate a Happ trade, the moves don't create any real financial flexibility. Right now all I see less wins for about the same money but of course it's still early. I like that AA is at least pro-active about re-assigning payroll, something he didn't do nearly enough of in other off-seasons. If all these little moves end up facilitating a big upgrade somewhere, it will pay off. Otherwise, it's just re-arranging the deck chairs.
  20. Been awhile since I dry humped you about Butler.
  21. Good joke but the distortion in the photo really hurts my brain.
  22. I keep mentally blocking out Mayberry but I guess depth is depth.
  23. I would really like some kind of configuration that doesn't feature Pillar. Players that aren't that good and still have options shouldn't be breaking camp with the MLB team.
  24. Another options would be to keep Pompey in the minors and have Pillar spell one of Gose or Dirks against LHP.
  25. If he's healthy, a Dirks/Pompey/Bautista OF with Gose as the pinch runner/defensive replacement/4th OF and Pillar as MiLB depth works pretty well for me.
