  1. He's 31. The definition of journeyman. Plan A is that he never sees a day in a Jays uniform.
  2. XposBrad = BradFullmerFan from the DJF comments section? Fullmer came up as an Expo after all.
  3. No it's not. I just explained this to you and you insist on being obtuse about it and then getting all whiny and passive aggresive to boot. I don't care whether you think the Jays are the favourites or aren't the favourites. I would however be interested in any arguments you have to support either position. Vegas betting odds just aren't an argument for anything. Two years ago, the Jays were the favourites by Vegas odds despite those terrible trades. Why? Because those moves really moved the needle betting wise. A lot of people got really enthusiatic. This time, after being burned, people are being more cautious despite the fact that this team will actually have a better chance of winning (not to mention, some fans are actually pessimistic because of the loss of familiar faces like Melky and Brett). That's what the lines tell us. They don't tell anybody f*** all about what's more likely or less likely to happen.
  4. Dude do you even understand how that billion dollar industry works? They are not in the business of prediction sports results (a fool's errand anyways). They are in the business of predicting betting trends (to insulate themselves from risk). That's what Vegas odds are all about. They couldn't care less who wins. They just want to set up the odds in such a way as they get as close to a 50/50 split on the over/under as possible.
  5. I don't get it from the Rangers side. Is the idea that they would start Navarro ahead of Chririnos? That seems like a just plain bad idea (although the rationale's of front offices don't always make sense to those of us on the outside).

P.K. Subban profiled in the New Yorker: http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2014/12/15/ice-breaker
  7. So from what Blair says it sounds like the Jays interest in Duquette is something Duquette manufactured. He knew that Jays had talked to Kenny Williams and others about eventually taking over. He knew he had raised his own stock with his Baltimore success. He saw what the Jays did this off-season. He probably judged that there wouldn't be a better time to try and jump ship. Not sure it's going to work though. They had to give Cito his farewell tour and Beeston will want the same treatment. He'll want to milk hid departure for all it's worth. It's going to take a palace coup to get rid of the f***er. A good reason for not hiring "legends" from your past is that it gets really awkward when it's time to get rid of them.
  8. Can the thread title be changed to G. Holland so that no one (like me) thinks we're talking D. Holland?
  9. The only way the Jays lose the Cabrera comp pick is if they sign Cabrera themselves. They already lost their first by signing Martin. If they sign another type A, they will lose also their 2nd, if they sign two more, their 2nd and their 3rd, etc...
  10. Clearly, Alan Ashby on T.V. was a curse on the Blue Jays.
  11. Yes but my point is that wouldn't his elite range be somewhat boosted by having access to all that extra foul territory? When most people think of an infielder having range, they think of the line drives they can get to not the pop ups they can field but does UZR make that distinction?
  12. Independently of that though, I think the prospect rankings for Pentecost are really over the top. The likely outcome at this point is still backup catcher. Maybe he'll really show something down the road but at this point it's way too early to be as optimistic as some people are being about him.
  13. I was wondering about that... Oakland offers the possibility for a corner IF to make plays deep into foul territory, plays that aren't even available to players in other parks. I wonder if that gives Donaldson's defensive numbers a boost? I can't help but wonder if we see the defensive ratings for Lawrie and Donaldson even out now that they've traded home parks.
  14. http://barstowcityca.iqm2.com/Citizens/FileOpen.aspx?Type=1&ID=1769&Inline=True Anyone know why Sanchez has a different last name as his parents?
  15. Despaired his old team too.
  16. Well whatever. This might have despaired me back in September but AA has done excellent work within the payroll parameters so far. Much better than in year's past. The team should be better on the field and that should translate well at the box office and make Rogers happy.
  17. O.K. cool. I just saw that Flex Packs come in as little as 10. That would be good for someone like me who is just trying to setup the possibility of a trip to Toronto to possibly catch the first playoff game in over 20 years if that even happens.
  18. Does the 20 ticket pack give you some sort of in for playoff games? I don't even live in Toronto. That would be my only reason to buy it.
  19. Can people please stop posting the child exploitation videos? O.K. thanks.
  20. So basically everyone adjusts for reliever leverage except Baseball Prospectus WARP. That's very interesting. Because high leverage relievers still don't accrue that many WARs, I would have guessed it wasn't even counted.
  21. If you believe what Michael Lewis wrote in Moneyball, Beane had a similar incident with Jeremy Giambi. That's what makes the story credible.

They don't always mean to. Sometimes they just slip up. That being said it doesn't seem terribly likely in this case. The account above makes it sound like he went to the police right away.
  23. Greene > Didi > Ray I doubt a prospect from Detroit is really going to change that equation.

Parents may have played a role in that.
  25. Yep suddenly the Jeter comparisons seem very à-propos. Similar production to late career Jeter and probably similarly overrated.
