Well a 10 figure contract in baseball is nothing. Eleven figures is where the action is. If you're merely a 10 figure guy or a pitcher, you should learn to bunt.

Oh that reminds me of another caveat I should have added to A), the batter has to have some bunting ability. The whole point of the sacrifice bunt is that it's supposed to be a high probability play. If you don't have a high rate of success with your sacrifice bunts then you're just giving away outs for nothing. Better to flail away.

It was a bad deal for everyone involved and I don't have a problem with Hamilton wiggling his way out of it. You only have one career, only one life to live, why force yourself to live with your mistake and be miserable? He wasn't contributing anyways. He might not contribute much in Texas either but at least he'll be where he's comfortable. I wouldn't have thrown the ex-wife unde the bus though. I mean I know where he's coming from. I have deep regrets over times in my life where I went against my gut and listened to my ex-wife but that's not her fault, that's all on me.

Times when bunts are acceptable: A) Runner on base less than 2 outs and the hitter is a nearly guaranteed out, typically this means it's either a pitcher or Jonathan Diaz at the plate. Bunting for a hit with a speedy hitter and the infield back. C) It's last tick and bunting increases your probability of scoring the single run you need to win the game (I'm not going to get into the specifics of the scenario but it has been mapped out by people smarter than me). I'm pretty much fine with A and B at any point in the game as long as the pitcher isn't struggling. Dropping bunts against a struggling pitcher is doing him a favour.

I edited my original post to add an article that addressed that indirectly. It says they have cleared 20 million off the books for the next three years, that leaves them on the hook for 63 million.

Gibbons seems to have made the adjustments he needed to make in the bullpen. He took Castro out of the closer's role and re-inserted Cecil. He gave more leverage to the relievers who have been the most effective so far, Estrada and Hendriks. Really the only other things that could be done to improve the bullpen would be personnel changes and that's not on him.

Boston is a huge pain in the ass to get around in. One of the worst cities really.

Boston is doing it to accommodate families whose children are still in school. They will revert to regular hours in the summer.

Cool. He should be one to two innings at a time twice a week guy not this rubber arm constant high leverage business. Half baked plan was half baked.

Jennings should just go on the DL. It would be the best of all his owners everywhere. Maybe then he can come back and be an average hitter with above average steals. Any one would take that at this point.

It's sad that this is a concern. He's terrible shortstop but I'd still rather have him on the roster than Diaz.

Agreed. I'm still not convinced this is going to work but at times he shows why he's been such a tantalizing prospect for so long and why he's been put in this position in the first place. We saw a lot of the good Sanchez in this last start. We also saw plenty of the bad one, not only in the first inning but also towards the end where it took a lot of defensive heroics to keep him in position to win. If he keeps tantalizing the team with moment of brilliance and runs into some good fortune, this experiment could last for awhile.

They could do that and quite possibly should do that but they won't. Maybe if the team had four healthy outfielders, they would feel more comfortable with that option but for now Goins and Valencia are basically the 4th and 5th outfielders.

A.J. Cole making his MLB debut today. It would be be a godsend to my team if he established himself quickly. It's interesting that they went with him in spite of tons of options such a Roark, Jokisch and the Taylors (Hill and Jordan).

Sigh... This is pretty irritating. Kawasaki can at least somewhat handle the bat. Instead we get Diaz who might be an even more extreme version of Goins. I guess it will be the world's least productive righty/lefty platoon.

Since you're here maybe consider renaming the thread? Makes us look bad and kind of justifies the hate O's fans have for us.
