  1. Because BLUE JAYS message board.
  2. Agreed. I don't think the return on Goins would surpass what he's worth to the team as a depth option. Now if someone wants to make Goins their starter and offers you a lot then sure take it but I don't think that's terribly likely. Teams will be hesitant to drastically change their evaluation on a guy just based on one half season. Ten years ago, Clint Barmes had a 886 OPS through the first half for the Rockies. It didn't really change the kind of player he is.
  3. I really don't love Bautista anywhere right now. Always having either Encarnacion or Bautista at first might not turn out so great either. Since both Eddie and Bautista are only under control for one more year, I probably would just keep them where they are and grit my teeth about their fielding (which would be very little from Eddie anyways). If one of them gets exended (presumably Bautista) then you have to consider a more long term plan.
  4. That was an experiment the Tigers did because of positional need. If I had worked out, they wouldn't have needed to make the Gose trade. It didn't and that's for the best.
  5. Trying to land a Zimmerman or a Shark makes a lot of sense for this team. Either would balance the top of the rotation and reduce the team's reliance on Stroman though like you say, it's really nice that next year isn't our primary focus yet.
  6. And it would be a great OF in terms of overall range and speed so it's not like it would be worthless. It would provide some value, it would do so unconventionally and it woudn't be overwhelmingly positive value but not negative either. I can understand being against the idea but the level of hate it's getting seems pretty over the top.
  7. The lack of pitching depth is a concern. There won't be any Norris and Boyd's waiting around next year unless some of the current relievers go back to starting. AA doesn't have to commit to Estrada per say but he'll definitely have to bring in some bodies. Hopefully it will be a friendlier FA market than in year's past and AA will have more options to choose from. One option might be to sign and flip like they did with Happ (which didn't work out so great in that case but is still worth considering).
  8. At the very least, I would flip Pillar and Revere in this alignement. Revere is a LF (and a CF in a desperate emergency). He's not a RF in any scenario.

  10. It's not as bad as drafting him and dropping him for some s***** catcher which I did.
  11. It's part of what makes him so relatable. He's really a delightful media personality in addition to being a great player.
  12. I guess Francis gives the team more options than either Colt Hynes or Chad Jenkins would have by virtue of being both a lefty and a long man. Could be used in long relief and be used situationally (the later is a bit scary but not necessarily worse than Colt Hynes in that kind of role).
  13. O.K. That explains why I was only counting 39 guys. The corresponding move had already been made.
  14. Francis isn't on the 40 so I for one didn't even give him any consideration. I figured that Jenkins would be the long man simply because he was already available. That being said I only currently count 39 active players on the 40 so a corresponding move won't be required until they activate Stroman. Whoever gets cut probably won't be anyone we'll miss. If you figure the extra reliever is only going to get mopup duty anyways then I can see simply preffering the guy who keeps his mouth shut but if the idea is to have another reliever so you can mix and match more then I don't get it. Seems like cutting off your nose to spite your face. If anyone was going to beat out Delabar for a spot, I figured it would be Colt Hynes simply by virtue of being a lefty.
  15. Kawasaki is qualified to be on the 25 man playoff roster. It's just not terribly likely that he will be chosen over other options.
  16. Stroman is eligible as well by virtue of having been on the Major League DL.
  17. Yeah but you said he was and I own him here and in LOD so why take this debate any further?
  18. Shapiro looks more Robocop than Green Goblin to me.
  19. AA could leave but getting a president in place now rather than in the off-season gives the team the best chance of retaining him. I don't think he wants to leave but I think he probably would leave if no one was in place to secure his future. This should work out just fine.
  20. If AA leaves the Jays for the Nats, he'd go from what's been the least Boras friendly org in the league to what's been the most Boras friendly.
  21. Every team has an analytics department. There's nothing exceptional about that. The extent to which the GMs of the respective teams understand and incorporte the analytics is what varies from GM to GM. At times, AA has seemed quite blind to them. When he says that the was surprised by how bad Bonifacio's defense was, it suggest a GM that can't even consult a Fangraphs page but when he's willing to outbid other teams for Russell Martin and recognizes pitch framing as one of the ways he provides value, it indicates progress. Overall, I don't think there's much evidence to suggest he's particularly analytics minded but he does seem to be, more broadly speaking, open minded and willing to learn from his mistakes and that's a good thing.
  22. Even if there are more limitations on his power, AA would have to crazy to leave Toronto for Seattle.
  23. He seems to have aquired a much better grasp on defensive value and run prevention.
