  1. These two teams meeting up is the proof (that we didn't really need) that manegerial strategy much like lineup order is just one of those things that generates a ton of debate but really doesn't matter that much in the end.
  2. This team should have enough good relievers to be able to survive without Cecil but Gibbons' plan seems to be to simply extend Osuna and Sanchez instead and act like he doesn't have the deep bullpen he actually has. I know that Hendriks and Lowe have had blowups but so has Sanchez and, for whatever reason, he's been given this tremendous rope that they have not been granted.
  3. Both starting pitchers had somewhat laboured but productive starts and each did enough to earn a win but the Jays outfielded the Rangers by a large margin and that was the biggest difference.
  4. Yeah it really seems like Buehrle is done for the year. Nobody likes Francis but he has decent splits for his career. Him and Loup would probably both be fine in a one batter at a time role. Not sure what the thinking was with Tepera.
  5. Dickey doesn't have a son only daughters. I think he's just trying to say he feels like Osuna's dad.
  6. Just in case there's any confusion about this... There is no actual ALDS MVP award.
  7. I think Boxy has quit the board in protest anyways.
  8. Anyone here remember alt.rec.mlb.bluejays or whatever the message board community from the nineties was called? I remember arguing the merits of prospects like Eric Hinske, Guilermo Quiroz and Dustin McGowan on there. I don't remember what any of the handles on there were. I don't even remember what mine was. Definitely wasn't KingKat. I think I've only had that handle since 2005.
  9. Also I wish they gave these out for real.
  10. I think it was Pilar but Estrada deserved a spot on the ballot for his huge momentum shifting performance in Game 3.
  11. One thing that Jays fans may not realize is that the Jays have never won a series in a do or die game before. 85, 89, 91: lost in the ALCS 1992 ALCS, 1992 World Series, 1993 ALCS, 1993 World Series, won 6 out of 7. Jays have never had a back against the wall win like this before. The Carter, Alomar, Sprague blasts were epic but the circumstances didn't rival this one for intensity. Those homeruns were more about sudden positives changes of momentum but they never felt like the last chance for the team. The Bautista blast really saved the team's bacon when it was do or die. How large it will ultimately loom in Jays lore will depend a lot on how the subsequent series turn out but right now if feels massive. As it stands, it's not nearly as important as something like the Carter homerun but as a fan since 1985, this was the most exciting moment for me as a fan. Those other homeruns did not come in circumstances that were nearly this tense.
  12. This is so ridiculous. The lines about respecting the game are always being redefined. You're pretty myopic if you can't see it. Players used to refrain from making slam dunks in basketball because it was disrespectful and now it's part and parcel of the game. These things evolve in all sports including baseball. If you think bat flips aren't gaining in acceptance, you're not paying attention or you're too dead set against change to even open your eyes.
  13. Cool. Now I can have my heart attack in peace.
  14. One thing's for sure. My heart was a lot younger in 92-93.
  15. Pretty sure protest is automatically dropped if the protesting team wins.
  16. Yeah but generally he's pretty bad. This kind of display is pretty rare from him.
  17. O.K. I'm a bit emotional right now like many of us.
  18. Sanchez after the long layoff is risky as f***. Too bad Gibby doesn't trust Hendriks.
  19. Jays fans throwing garbage is nothing new and is hardly worth comparing to the Vancouver riot. Don't be a sore loser.
  20. I was more pumped for that one than the Carter blast. No joke.
