    It's not THAT important. The more important point is that it's easier to find a cheap reliever than a 5 million dollar starter so even though the Hendriks trade is a loss on paper and in the long term, it can easily be a win in the short term with the right bullpen acquisition. This is the offseason of the boring moves that don't really impress on the surface but add up to a roster that makes sense.

    Makes way more sense than trading Hendriks and then overpaying for a reliever. In fact, at least one poster criticized the Chavez trade based exactly on the assumption that they would overpay for a reliever. The idea is to get someone here that Gibbons will use properly. Throw in the fact that you can't really sign a pitcher like Chavez as a FA for 5M/1 year and you can see how things fit together.

    Bonds' pitch recognition was off the charts. I just can't see how you teach something like that. "You just have to lay off the bad pitches". Easier said than done.

    Non regressed splits are pretty dramatic thought that's as much a factor of being terrible against lefties as anything else. He and Cola would probably make a productive 1B platoon but I don't love rostering three 1Bs counting EE.

    Yeah I kind of wondered about that too when talking about Boston's lack of holes. Seems like they'll get about average at 1B production from him but it could be a lot worse than that too and be a hole. Corner Infield is probably a weakness and an expensive one at that.

    Trumbo was going to make 6,9 Million. A significant chunk of that just went to Aoki which makes sense. Mariners finally recognizing how defense works.

    Yeah so sorry about dropping the ball on this. I thought I would get a chance to work on it and I did not. Since then a new Fangraphs take (perfectly cromulent rotation) came out and the subject seems pretty well covered. Seems like I would just be parroting at this point and I don't understand FRIAS enough to really give a FRIAS specific analyisis with any degree of sincerity. New thing to talk about is David Price but fans who were willing to pay any price for him won't be talked off the ledge.

    What I was trying to say earlier and didn't express very well is that any discussion about players' salaries versus other profession is ultimately about a lot more than just David Price. That being said that discussion isn't really dominating the thread anymore so I don't mind as much. If you feel like posting something that might re-ignite it, consider creating a separate thread. I have no issue with the discussion per se.

    Even if it's no that high, combine it and with what Kylle Matte was suggesting it might be doing to his offense and Martin catching Dickey looks like a noble experiment that ultimately may have been a noble failure. Let someone else do it. Thole's offense in AAA was putrid last year even though he wasn't catching Dickey there but he still should be brought back at least as a fallback option.

    I'm not so sure I want to guarantee a roster spot to Smoak going forward. Pretty overrated on both sides of the ball and not a defensively versatile bench player. I'd probably go a different direction with my roster construction.
