Yeah and it's not The Rangers fault. They paid what they thought Darvish was worth, it's just that 50+ million of that went to his team.

Yeah it was ridiculous that the team had so much more leverage than the player in the old system. This new system is better for the player though it's also better for big market teams as well.

If you're at your budget or all you have to spend is roughtly the amount of the posting fee itself than there's no point in posting a bid. Why waste your time when you could be spending your time pursuing more realistic options?

They also penned Greg Infante. That's a great signing for a rebuilding team. Guy would be sick if he ever managed to cut down the walks for any length of time. Throws as hard as anyone.

You'd like to think that but the Jays are in a tough situation. Everyone has more money and they have less. Atkins already said that all the extra revenue from last year is committed and a bit of extra too because the exchange rate gobbled it all up. AA picked an excellent time to leave. The economics are really bad.

I think Maeda will attract a lot of very serious bids. He's only a year older than Heyward. That's young for a free agent and pitchers are somewhat overvalued to begin with.

I really don't see what recruiting advantage the Jays might have here. They likely don't have deep enough pockets to offer Maeda more money than other teams making a bid and they don't really seem like an attractive destination for a Japanese free agent. Their brand isn't well know in Japan and other than Kawasaki who might be brought back as AAA filler, they won't have any potential Japanese teammates for him. I'm not opposed to making a bid but it seems pretty pointless.

IIRC, him and Ju1ced used to really get into it. Wouldn't surprise me if he would prefer to stay away from this one and yeah he was knowledgeable.

Italy didn't make the top qualifying group and as a result they get the top seed (Belgium) in their group. That's pretty minor compared to the Dutch collapse though. Greece has to be pretty disappointed that they didn't qualify when you look at some of the countries that did. Denmark probably figured this would be a chance to get back in the tournament and it didn't happen. That's the main ones off the top of my head.

I'm not a big fan of the expansion from 16 to 24 team but it does create some intrigue with countries that haven't been in it since forever like Northern Ireland, Iceland and Wales. Hopefully they don't bring down the overall quality of the tournament too much. I'll miss the "anyone could win" days when the Euro was arguably the best International Tournament.
