Bautista getting punched might be the lasting image of the season. I sure hope not but we all knew that this was an old team and that all we were hoping for was to hold the window open a little longer. The Estrada and Happ signing have worked out well. They're not aces but they would be winning a lot of games if everything else was the same as last year. Storen has been frustrating but so far it's the Nats who have gotten the worst of that trade. Even the Jay Bruce trade doesn't look bad when you consider the money that was coming back and the extra year on Bruce possibly being worth something if he keeps hitting. Smoak, Pillar and Saunders are doing their job (if somewhat gracelessly in the case of Saunders). Stroman is worse than expected but Sanchez is a lot better so you can really complain about the young starting pitching either. Dickey has hopefully turned the corner. There have been issues with the bullpen but that's being magnified immensely by the lack of run support. Swapping Goins for Travis should help but BJ Birdie help us if we're counting on him of all people to carry the offense. The real fundamental issue is the offensive core. It's like father time decided to really do a number on four of the five core guys right at the same time. If those guys are doing their thing it really makes the rough patches of from the likes of Cecil, Dickey, Colabello and Goins much less of an issue.
