  1. Tanaka did really well for himself - maybe better then i expected. - 7 years instead of 6. AV 20+ million. Long term security even if he's not the pitcher projected. - Opt out after 4 years. If he's a star can re enter the FA market at age 29...setting himself for another massive pay day. - full no trade Claus - security for his family. - Plays on a storied franchise with other familiar Japanese stars on a team that is consistently good. I don't even want to think what it would have cost to get him to come to Toronto. lol. Job well done by his agent.
  2. Rays To Acquire Logan Forsythe From Padres By Jeff Todd [January 22 at 1:30am CST] 11:39pm: If the deal is finalized, five players will be changing hands, reports Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports (on Twitter). 11:20pm: The Rays have agreed to acquire utilityman Logan Forsythe from the Padres, reports Chris Cotillo of MLBDailyDish.com. The deal will involve four players, says Cotillo, with southpaw reliever Alex Torres likely part of the return for San Diego. We heard yesterday that San Diego was receiving interest in the 27-year-old. With several other utility options, led by Alexi Amarista, the Padres presumably felt Forsythe was expendable. The versatile defender had a nice 2012 campaign (107 OPS+), but struggled last year with a .214/.281/.332 triple-slash in 243 plate appearances last year. Swinging from the right side, Forsythe has had much better success against southpaws over his career than against same-handed hurlers (.793 vs .594 OPS). The Rays will control Forsythe for four seasons, though only the coming year will be at the league minimum. Having spent time at second, short, third, and the corner outfield, Forsythe certainly fits Tampa's liking for flexible players. He will battle for a roster spot and playing time with players like Sean Rodriguez, Vince Belnome, and Jayson Nix. With prospects Hak-Ju Lee and (more recently) Tim Beckham suffering significant knee injuries, the Rays have seen their middle infield depth tested. As I noted yesterday, a left-handed reliever would make sense in a deal for Forsythe, and it appears that could be just what the Padres will receive. Torres, 26, emerged last year for Tampa after converting to relief. He tossed 58 innings of 1.71 ERA ball, posting 9.6 K/9 against 3.1 BB/9 and a miniscule 0.897 WHIP. Torres did, however, benefit from a low BABIP (.221), high strand rate (80.2% LOB), and low home run tally (.16 HR/9), making him a candidate for regression. Torres will not be eligible for free agency until 2020. Though the Rays got an extra option year to use on Torres, it appears they used it last year, leaving him without options.
  3. Woops, i was looking at 2006. Pretty ridiculous that someone like Billy Beane who gets boners for OBP guys didn't give him a look on a 1 year deal.
  4. Collusion 101. Coming off a 2007 season of wRC+ 146 (456 OBP) Not a single AL team wanted to sign him as a DH? lol Selig really hates those PED's guys.
  5. Factor in the 20 million posting fee.. It doesn't make alot of sense to pay a guy alot of money only to see him walk away once your prospects are starting to emerge on the MLB level.
  6. I really doubt the Cubs would agree to an opt out after 3 years.
  7. The Yankees Infield is total s***. I don't think it's fair to say there is a "0" chance that we finish above them. Especially when they haven't signed a FA pitcher yet.
  8. I feel like I'm more optimistic about this team then the majority here. I don't blame AA for not pulling the trigger if players like "shark" cost both sanchez + Stro. Or if Price cost Eddy+. Obviously the Free agent starting pitching is over priced and i don't blame AA for not paying ++ $$ for the likes of Santana or Jiminez unless their prices fall. I do blame AA for not upgrading 2nd though - we could have offered Mark Ellis a guaranteed starting spot and some $$. We'll see though..... AA has said he's looking for a platoon for Lind and CF Depth so I'll withhold judgement until the offseason is over.
  9. Pretty sure it was Anderson who failed the physical.
  10. Yes. But the ship has sailed on options like Ruiz, Hanigan, Trading Santos for Gentry and in turn get a Starter (Anderson). Is Ublado ideal? No... But if he falls to us like a Kyle Lohse situation then i'm alright with it given our roster and lack of options. Same with Garza. I would argue that 2nd base should be just as much as a priority as SP.
  11. Seemed to work for the Toronto FC - Not that i know anything about Soccer.
  12. I'm alright with the Jays not signing Tanaka. The man is going to be paid like an elite Free Agent. I'd rather focus our resources on a plethora of talent - Franklin/Ackley trade. Denforia trade. Garza/Jiminez Signing (whoever falls to us). Then let's pray to god we stay healthy.....
  13. The start of 2013 featured alot of Izzy/DeRosa at 3rd, Kawaski at SS and Boni/Izzy at 2nd. Couple that with the injuries/slow starts to our starting pitching and is anyone really surprised we were total s***? This year should be a much better start.
  14. Maybe he went back to the old board? Nah, you're right. Death is way more likely.
  15. I remember that GDT where he posted that asian girl nudes. Another Bizarre event. That was pretty weird....
  16. This is Bizarre. Hope Ace is fine.
  17. It does. You just can't see it from a phone/tablet. I also can't see it from my work computer. I can only see it from my home laptop. I have brought it up before.
  18. Happ would have value as a 4 or 5 for some teams. We just have so many back of the rotation arms that could fill his place for a fraction of the cost.
  19. The question mark with JJ is the reason why he could represent great value to us. Plus....on a 1 year contract who gives a s***.
  20. We traded for him....until we saw the medicals. Must have been scary considering his history.
  21. I support AA more then most people on this board. However, he totally dropped the ball when it came to Josh Johnson though. There was no way in hell with his agent that he was signing a pillow contract with us. 14 million an over pay? Yeah, probably. Market value for him was around 1 year 10 million. He apparently took slightly less money to play close to home and in a pitcher friendly park. He was such a good bounce back candidate (Xfip, BABIP, HR/FB ect) If he was AA's #1 target in that s***** f***ing trade how do you give up on him and not try and turn him into an asset. ( trade deadline trade or QO offer in 2014) QO him. Slight overpay with a really good chance he provides value and the chance to turn him into a draft pick or talent.
  22. Anyone else loving the MLB network? I'm watching the channel constantly.
  23. I think it has more to do with the suspension helping the Yankees then supporting Arod.
