  1. My girlfriend just asked me to cook her dinner tonight. I said i would if the next Bluejays pitcher doesn't let a guy on base. What a sucker. ... I told her Ricky is an " all star" pitcher. Technically I'm telling the truth.
  2. Nah. Couple days = couple months Couple weeks = out for the year Couple months = career over. We should see him by July.
  3. Who would have predicted that this thing is still going with no end in sight.
  4. Welcome to the board. FYI, You're allowed to say dip s*** on this board. You can f***ing swear all you want. On a side note....you still may get called a dip s***, but i wouldn't take it personal if you do.
  5. He projected Boston first and the Jays to be terrible last year..... " on another site" Dude knows his s***.
  6. Might as well throw in Ryan Goins too.
  7. 2.05 odds on the Jays. Not sure how long the regulars will play but it's worth 20 bucks for the hell of it.
  8. That's a pretty sexy lineup. (minus Goins). I'll still take any lineup that has Rasmus as your 7th hitter though. ... If only we had the starting pitching.
  9. Exactly. Sanchez had no intentions coming here. Unless we did something dumb like an 8 year deal which Detroit would not match. AA recognized this and moved on to (unfortunately) the Marlins trade.
  10. Yeah. The Dickey trade and Sanchez signing with Detroit happened around the same time. Point being the Jays were strapped for cash after the Marlins trade and there was no way they could have put together a contract offer to beat Detroit's 5 years and 80 million. We had to send John Buck to the Mets to afford Dickey's what? 5 million or so salary? Basically the Marlins trade ended any chance we would sign him. Edit: Did you mean the interest in Sanchez was after the Marlins trade? If so, not at all. He was apparently a very early target.
  11. By the sounds of it once we became the "star-studded" Jays we weren't really in on him at that point. We were in on him when we were the " haven't done anything in 20 years" team. The Marlins trade would have made signing him almost impossible with the payroll restrictions. Hell we had to give the Mets John Buck to afford Dickey.
  12. Also, Since the Tigers offered 5 years and 80 million and they were coming off a world series appearance AND Sanchez was familiar with the Org it would have taken a huge premium for him to come to a foreign country on a team who has not been relevant for years and years. It's probably why his agent asked for 8 years. 6 years and 99 million would have probably been the minimum for him to come to Toronto.
  13. You're right they never officially made the offer. It's just the price they internally discussed. From Shi's book... "Things went well the first day, when AA and LaCava took Sanchez and his wife out to dinner, and again the following afternoon when the same foursome lunched along with the pitchers parents and grandparents. Afterward, AA spoke with Gene Mato, Sanchez agent and asked " Can we get this done early? Were going to be aggressive" The Blue Jays offered a 5 year deal out of the gate but didn't mention a dollar figure -- 75 million -- they had in mind. First, they wanted to hear what Mato was thinking and he replied by saying they were looking for an eight year commitment" ... " According to AA their final message to the Jays was " we're going to need a little time, we're going to have to talk to other teams, go through the process, get information" Basically it sounds like AA targeted Sanchez. Wanted to get something done early and be aggressive to avoid a bidding war. Was prepared to offer 5 years and 75 million. AA turned his attention away when demands were an 8 year deal.
  14. Interesting idea but i wouldn't do it for the home opener. So many idiots who just go to get wasted and fight. Real fans go to the 2nd home game. I would give them out Saturday.
  15. Wow, that's so dumb. What school was that?
  16. "Big strong guy" = " i have nothing good to say" in manager talk.
  17. Phillies Accuse Two 2013 Draftees Of NCAA Violations By Steve Adams [February 20 at 7:30pm CST] Baseball America's Aaron Fitt is reporting that the Phillies notified the NCAA that a pair of their 2013 draftees -- fifth-rounder Ben Wetzler and sixth-rounder Jason Monda -- were both in violation of the "no agent" rule after both players elected to return to their respective colleges for their senior seasons. As Fitt notes, that rule is widely -- near universally, in fact -- disregarded among draft prospects. He points back to a BA story from 2008 in which one AL scouting director stated: "Every single player that we deal with—I don’t care what round you’re talking about—has representation, has an agent." Monda has since been cleared to play for Washington State this season, but Wetzler's investigation is ongoing, leaving Oregon State without its left-handed ace, according to Fitt. He goes on to note that just because these accusations are in place doesn't mean that Wetzler and Monda actually violated the rules, adding that an NCAA ruling is expected by the end of the week. Fitt was able to reach Phillies scouting director Marti Wolever, who declined comment. Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer reached Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr., who also declined to comment and referred further inquiries to Wolever (Twitter link). This story is of particular note given the fact that agents who are advising draft prospects are unhappy and could withhold information from the Phillies as the draft approaches. In a followup tweet to his story, Fitt quotes on agent who told him, "As of today, Phillies are out. Phillies are not getting into any more of our households. We're shutting down all communications." He also tweets that multiple agents have said there will be repercussions for the Phillies. Scout.com's Kiley McDaniel and ESPN's Keith Law have heard the same from agents in conversations today (Twitter links). Law goes on to speculate (via Twitter) that the Phillies may not receive information about the signability of some prospects, as well as their questionnaire responses and psych exam results. NCAA rules state that players aren't able to have agents heading into the draft, but nearly all draft prospects circumvent that rule by enlisting an "advisor" -- an agent who assists in the negotiation of the contract without a signed agreement of representation from that prospect. Once the player has signed with the team, the advisor becomes his agent and receives a cut of the contract agreed upon between player and team. Advisors aren't supposed to deal directly with the club -- a technicality that gained attention back in 2009 in regards to lefty Andy Oliver. As the New York Times' Katie Thomas reported at the time, Oliver sued the NCAA after he was declared ineligible to play after it was learned that he had an agent present in his negotiations with the Twins. Oliver was eventually awarded $750K. Fitt spoke with multiple lawyers at the time of that trial, with one professor of sports law telling him: "The MLBPA, not the NCAA, is the proper entity to be regulating the player-agent relationship."
