  1. If RR can get back to finding the strike zone it would make not signing another pitcher this offseason easier to handle. It would be like getting a new pitcher since he's so far down on the depth chart you almost forget he still exists. Maybe he has a new girlfriend?
  2. Ride the starting wave for as long as you can and if/when he shows issues with durability or he is no longer affective move him to the pen. Even Mo started out as a starting pitcher.
  3. I would have no problem for Happ making the team if he showed he could pitch the way he did at the beginning of last year. From what I recall, he was our best starter for the first few months of the season. Ideally though he would be a spot starter/swing man.
  4. Of course he was pissed but in reality he had no reason to be in the 25 man roster. Man couldn't (still can't?) hit a broad side of a fat chick.
  5. I can understand why the Jays are doing this. They probably just want to get their catchers acclimated to catching knuckleballs so they don't have to go outside and get Thole or Blanco to do it, they can keep them in house
  6. Offer him a minor league contract and tell him you think this program could help, and have Delabar talk to him and tell him how it helped him. Maybe he signs.
  7. It's great that we basically get rid of 2 starters from last years team (or make one a UT guy) and we getting 8 wins better. Haaaa.
  8. And be playing beer softball.
  9. Oh no a pitcher who hasn't pitched much last year is struggling in his first spring game outting. EVERYBODY FREAK OUT!
  10. Took the words right out of my mouth.
  11. This happens every year. AA claims a guy, then DFA him to claim someone else who then gets DFA a week later. He's probably just trying to sneak a few of these guys through to have at Buffalo. You know, so when the injury bug hits he can call them up and then DFA them again.
  12. Then OD because you have to be incredibly high to think the Jays could do all of that.
  13. Does anyone know if we resigned Adam Loewen?
  14. Who will have been a better player when their careers are over, Phelps or JP??
  15. All players have talent but we only have so many roster spots. In my opinion it would be foolish to acquire a player who can't really play any position well, and be strictly a "bench bat" or DH unless they absolutely mash (Edgar, Ortiz). You're basically using a roster space for a one dimensional player. The bench should be somewhat versatile. Just my humble opinion though.
  16. Sorry, but in my personal opinion a player of his talents would be a waste of a roster space on this current team. He doesn't play any position well; he plays 1st base at a below average level and his a bad catcher. He also isn't a great hitter. We don't really have a need for a pure "bench bat" as we don't play in the NL. Granted he would probably be the best 3rd catcher in baseball.
  17. I doubt many teams will give up a 1st round pick for one year unless 1) Their top pick is protected or 2) They think they are one SS away from contending.
  18. A (mostly) positionless DH adds exactly what flexibility to the bench?
  19. Alex Gonzalez was a good looking dude.
  20. No stats during the seasons will be kept, instead there will be "Top 10 _______" lists with no determinable criteria.
  21. I really think they will too. Unless the player is truly near the top of their position I just don't see teams wanting to give up compensation for them. 2nd tier players like Kendrys Morales and Cruz should have accepted the QO and I could see next years free agent class of 2nd tier position players going on the side of caution. However, the offseason is not over.
  22. I agree. Last year we had 2 black holes (2nd and C) and a mess in left field. With Melky's tumor removed he shouldn't be nearly as bad as last year. And if Navaro can get on base and Goins can get on base even once a game I'd be delighted. Our lineup even with Goins in it isn't nearly as bad most people act.
  23. Other than Sexson every one of those players spent time with the Jays.
