  1. Every team with an ERA worse than the Jays is way below .500. Our pitching just isn't very good
  2. Trying to be optimistic but pitching is going to be the death of us come playoffs
  3. I'm more bullish on Bo's hitting not regressing too badly. However, I think his days as SS are done. He's literally bottom of the league for OAA (-10). So where would Bo fit on this lineup? I would say DH because bad range isn't going to play a lot better at 2B/3B imo. But the problem is, Springer should move from RF to DH next year as his defense has also regressed very badly.
  4. Yea I think he needs to go to 70% FB 30% k-curve. His FB is really good
  5. yea I also prefer 4 divisions with 8 teams each. 8 wildcards, 4 div winners. Wildcards face each other round 1, then div winners in round 2, etc.
  6. Yea Skenes is on another level. Tied going into the 7th with both starters out, I'd take that
  7. Oddsmakers have this one pretty much 50/50. Shows you how much an elite pitcher can carry a team
  8. We're ranked 28th in starting pitching WAR this season :/. Feels like both Bassitt and Berrios really are tiring late in the season. Are there any good stats out there how much the extra day rest helps? Often wondered if that extra day is worth more than having to dilute the starting lineup
  9. Bassitt has been slightly better, so it's probably his rotation slot. Berrios being back next year I think plays less of a factor given they are in a playoff race. That's if they go 5 man rotation which I think they should. The bye is just too important to shoot for over being nice
  10. Yea feels like Loperfido situation again, tough decisions to be made Looking at most teams with better pitching they either have 3 or even 4 guys pitching like Gausman (good, not great) OR one really elite starter that's elevating the SP WAR. Also our #5 spot has been an absolute black hole. Scherzer is coming back strong though so it might not be that bleak.
  11. I mean Berrios/Bassitt are fine as backend starters. On pace for 2 WAR. The problem is we don't have any elite pitching, just a bunch of average guys. Subtracting Green and Francis, we're still league average in pitching. Shows how much the lineup has carried this team, we'd be .500 with an average lineup
  12. IMO no, That opens a bigger can of worms. It's just part of the risk of very aggressive baserunning. They've made the bases bigger which helps
  13. Straw must have read all the comments here yesterday saying he couldn't hit
  14. People will still say he's not clutch. Even though his RISP/high lev is fine
  15. Better example, MLB buried Pete Rose for the same. Even though MLB has gotten in bed with gambling companies, I lean to them still taking this stuff seriously. What happens to Clase and Hoburg in the long run will be the barometer
  16. So what's the fame cutoff? Clase was a pretty big name and it seems like they're coming down hard on him
  17. Ohtani definitely knew more than he let on. The story wasn't consistent and moreover, it just didn't add up. You don't spend 24/7 with someone and not have some idea. However admitting to anything can have legal ramifications, and so he suffered a big PR hit instead. That said, I don't have the feeling that whatever Ohtani did know, that it is without a doubt into accomplice territory. The bar is pretty high for going off to prison for many years. If his Ippei really was innocent it would have come out in court. Even for a few million payoff I don't think I'd want to rot in prison for 6 years.
  18. My gut tells me the truth is somewhere in between. Ohtani knew about Ippei, but not the depth of how degenerate the gambling was. You can't spend that much time with someone and not know something. I think that's the part that people aren't buying. At the end of the day though you're not responsible for others crimes, unless there's strong evidence of being an accomplice.
  19. Re: Joe Carter, I never knew he did this way back. Up there with Sidd Finch
  20. Lol why would they bunt, just stand there and take a walk
  21. Yea I tried to explain why for me it's gotta be Doc. It isn't just about being the best. It's the overcoming adversity angle, which is kind of my own life story. My aunt and cousin both said Joe Carter (to my surprise). He wasn't the best on the championship teams of 92-93, but he was the heart and soul of the team. Just charismatic and always upbeat. It was so poetic that he was the one who made both of the final outs.
