Maybe as a reliever. Some team will probably offer him better as a starter -
I mean we saw emotional coaching decisions all playoffs with the intentional Ohtani walks. If we want to be this way fine, but what bothers me is when we try to paint it as optimal analytics. IBB are dumb and that benefitted us too, the G7 Bo HR might have been a 2 run shot otherwise

Jays should put all their money into pitching. It'd be nice to bring Bo back too but doing both might be difficult. A side tangent after watching the post season and thinking about the rise of pitching injuries. I know MLB won't do this anytime soon, but I think all pitchers should have to face 6 batters minimum. Our pitching staff seemed so exhausted and injured by end of year because of too many outings. Even the announcers glaze over how many warmup pitches a pitcher throws before the first one to a batter. Analytics has min maxed each batting encounter to the extreme. To use an analogy, they're approaching a 162 game season with the mentality of a 100m sprint. What shocked me was to hear Gausman led the AL in IP but didn't even break 200 IP. It's little wonder this all has knock on effects. And it doesn't seem to be a Jays only problem. Not that this really plays into pitching acquisition strategy. If anything the Dodgers winning with elite starters makes me feel that going for one true ace might be better than 2-3 midrange arms. But a case could be made either way.

Really excited for next season. Pitching is where the Jays can pick up the most WAR. Beyond Gausman and Bassitt we didn't get much. That said the team pitched surprisingly well in the post season

On the whole its hard to understand how a team 1st in defense by a mile can be 25th in baserunning. Some of it has to be coaching. Baserunning should mostly be instincts I feel. You shouldn't be need to be told what to do in every situation. That's what leads to hesitation

Hell of a season, couldn't ask for more exciting games. A shame I missed many parts live because I've been recovering from surgery. But at least I got to see all of Game 7. Jays really need to improve the baserunning in the offseason. For a team that isn't slow they ranked poorly (25th) and I could believe them being even worse. Crazy to think something so overlooked was the difference between the Jays and Dodgers.

Ohtani had 700 PA on the season. 500 TB (including walks) is still less than giving him 700 walks. The only player that approached being worth the IBB was prime Bonds and he had a much worse lineup than the Dodgers this year It's been estimated a player that walks every time would be worth ~20 WAR in a full season

Yea it's about 0.25 runs given up doing an IBB on average. The Jays are way too cute with the IBBs. The other intangible reason I don't like it is that having runners on adds psychological pressure

Actually it is. Even Ohtani only gets on base 40% of the time. Giving it up for free is idiotic

It's unreal how this team refuses to follow the analytics. IBB is almost never worth it statistically

Yea. The view that picking relievers in a certain way will result in zero runs is weird. It's like obsession over batting order. Has way less impact than just being good when called on

I think he gets 25MM AAV but on a shorter deal, maybe 3 years. Yea by WAR alone it'd be a bit less, but he's kept the walks down. Depends how much you think all the HRs given up are fluke or trend. Some team will say fluke for the high ceiling

Not against using Gausman but there is a cost there in that he wouldn't be available for WS game 7 I keep saying it but they should be using Bassitt and Lauer more. They were above average all season and most of our pen is average at best. If they're injured then I don't get why they rostered them.

Hoffman was on tonight. Every pitch was around the edges of the zone. His velo was good too, 96 or so on the fastball. Though I don't think they should use him much in game 7. Maybe to like end an inning. You don't want to be stuck 3 batters like with Little.

Down 2-0 is about 19% to advance Down 3-2 is about 25% to advance Assuming 50/50 which Seattle and Jays pretty much are

Well not only that but OPS is deceptive. With 45 BB in 68.1 IP, his OBP against is well below average (0.323) WAR still likes him but I have a hard time getting with it. They've figured out they can just wait for a heart pitch

Hitting wise the Jays made huge strides. I do think it's not a fluke, that their high performance team had something to do with it. But yea the pitching boggles me. Every single reliever seems to be chasing velocity at the expense of a lot of walks. Seems to be a team wide philosophy but I don't think it's been very effective. Without the walks and HBP that's a 2 run inning instead of 5. Of course these aren't things you can magically change in the middle of the ALCS. We're stuck with what we have.

Yea we don't use analytics like we claim to. That said it feels like Little is cooked until redoing mechanics. Out of 15 pitches, only 3 were in the shadow or chase zones. The rest were either heart or waste pitches.

Dodgers just swept the Brewers, the AL doesn't have a prayer 🙏
