  1. The thing is even if they put Hoffman in 7th or 8th inning they lose. It's a home run given up in another inning. Shuffling reliever order doesn't help all that much when they all get equal use
  2. Sort of what he's been all his career. Elite when HRs are low and garbage when giving up a lot like this year
  3. If you invert that over a season, the average player batting off Hoffman would be on pace for 50 HR
  4. You'd think analytics would be able to tell them that
  5. It's interesting that so many pitchers with bad Stuff+ have good Location+
  6. I would have kept Nance in and not just saying this out of hindsight. They need to stop with so many mid-inning switches. it's overuse. That said the talent isn't there, you can shuffle bullpen order but it has way less impact than people think. Much like batting order.
  7. Yea I think they've also been doing way too many short bullpen outings. It's like no one can face more than 3 batters. The thing is just to get a guy up they pitch a lot of warmup/practice pitches. That's all usage whether they actually come out to pitch or not. I do wonder if the trend will go back to using relievers for 2 IP more, because this has been a disaster
  8. You can also get tarred and feathered for liking the Blue Jays
  9. It wasn't out of the strike zone though. Perfect pitch really.
  10. Looked out on initial play. Replay doesn't look conclusive enough to overturn
  11. It is interesting though that our starters have been relatively worse than the relievers 17th in reliever WAR 26th in starter WAR
  12. I did a look back at the bullpen's preseason projections for everyone who has pitched 20 or more innings this year. None of them were projected to be good, Rodriguez and Hoffman projected to be average. The rest were replacement level or very close to it. Varland should be average or a bit better based on projections, but he hasn't been. Probably because they messed with his pitch mix. Little and Fisher exceeded expectations, but a lot of the rest of the pen hasn't. So it's kind of a wash.
  13. Probably not, Walker is a DUI hire Which means all the way down theres probably no accountability
  14. No one but he gets an infinite leash because our fans don't know what good pitching is. The lineup should always score more runs
  15. It is weird how pretty much every bullpen pitcher has regressed super hard this year. Makes you wonder if we're doing something wrong organizationally
  16. There's a point where you just have to say our bullpen is terrible. We're late enough in the season that it's not a small sample size anymore. When I watch them I feel like the other team should be scoring more runs, not less.
  17. It's really depressing to have a top 2 lineup and a bottom 5 bullpen
  18. What? The offence has been great in August, 130 wrC+ It's been absolutely awful pitching that's been sinking us.
  19. Look at these walk rates for August, other than Nance. Even worse than I imagined
  20. It's weird how like all our relievers come out and can barely throw a single strike over the plate. A lot of it is the walks and getting behind in counts. Doesn't seem to be overuse, they're sitting on 50-60 IP which is typical for other teams relievers at this point in the season. Our SP isn't amazing but at least they aren't getting blown out most games.
