  1. Yea I think it's that the Jays don't have a single big superstar on offense to get excited about this year. So it feels like the offense is much worse than it is. Overall the lineup isn't that bad. 107 wRC+ puts them in a three-way tie for 7th in MLB
  2. Jays are playing to projections though. They were projected for 88 wins and on pace for 90 wins.
  3. Did anyone have the Jays giving up the least runs in their bold predictions? 501 - 1st place as of tonight
  4. Jays are 5th in pitching WAR and 8th in position player WAR. Frustrating team to watch because they are talented yet so not clutch. Not that I believe in clutch but you start to wonder, they just wither in high leverage every time this season
  5. On a purely economic basis, a replacement level player isn't adding value to the team's ownership if even a modest portion of the Jays fanbase decides to not watch the games over their views. What kind of surprises me in this day and age is that agents don't manage the social media accounts of their players. A player's value can be affected greatly by public perceptions as much as reality. Without going into negative examples (Bonds, Bauer) too much, an example on the other side is Jeter who was so well liked by fans that he was vastly overpaid at the end of his career.
  6. Yea fair. It's too bad the average fan doesn't get much insight into the inner workings. Competitive advantage and all that
  7. FWIW I think Schneider is okay as a leader. I think the issues are more on the conditioning/development side than with that. It seems weird to spend so much money on a development facility and end up with players that aren't conditioned for a 162 game season. Are players not working with their training staff or what? Or is it a facility with not much guidance? You'd think they'd have this stuff nailed given the overall payroll and operating budget
  8. Well they aren't that far off projections. Projections said 89 wins, current pythag W/L is 86 wins Unless you're a super team you have to exceed the projections to make it
  9. Could some of the Jays problem be culture? Do other teams have issues with players showing up out of shape? Vlad in the past, Manoah this year, debatably Kirk too. A lot of lack of hustle too, I feel like every other game there's a play that if legged out would have been a hit or extra base. I get that it's a long season but it often feels like the team isn't being managed to give their best. I feel like it goes deeper into the player development approach as well... teams like the Rays seem to develop average players into above-average. Maybe the Jays will see the results of the better development facilities, but this year a lot of players have taken a step back.
  10. Halladay Steib Bautista Delgado Delgado narrowly over Fernandez because he was never implicated in steroids when they were most prevalent. His totals would have been much more impressive otherwise.
  11. And Mariano Rivera wouldn't be. Starter is to reliever as position player is to DH?
  12. They should just make a fWAR Hall of Fame. 60 WAR to get in. Maybe a bit lower for pitchers due to higher injury rates, 50 WAR
  13. Yea Cap Anson better example than Cobb being thrown around. Majority of the bad things written about Cobb were proven to be fabricated. The modern historical view on Cobb is neutral to positive. If you add a character clause you need to go back and re-evaluate everyone that's ever gotten in. So either do that or I don't agree with it.
  14. Allegedly another woman from Ohio had a similar encounter with Bauer. Odd that it's dated August and first I had heard of it https://www.sportsnet.ca/mlb/article/report-ohio-woman-sought-protective-order-trevor-bauer/ I think he's done. Perhaps these women were out to get money but he just seems like a psycho creep beater. This stuff isn't even close to consensual BDSM
  15. Jays had some bad luck too though. Springer being out all year more or less. Yates and most of their top bullpen injured. Finishing 8 wins below expected run diff. Not even getting to play home games half the year.
  16. And missing the playoffs with a 99-63 X W/L... to two teams that got lucky
  17. If only they had actually played at home all year. Home field advantage would have won them at least one more game.
  18. The adage like attracts like is usually true. Like with men who are abusers/groomers like Epstein, they find women who are like minded to help them. Sadly this sort of stuff gives BDSM a bad name to outsiders. What's described is way beyond healthy play or even edgy play
  19. I'm trans and I can't stand Sheryl Ring's writings. They're full of a world view that one is helpless to all circumstance That being said proper pronouns are appreciated, using him/her or such is pretty hateful
  20. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZzgAjjuqZM&list=PLLnWQgvmVpm0FeMKmzIiO-esR3KrM9ZXB&index=2
  21. Variance isn't controllable. I'm sure if you went around the league you'd find the RS/RA variances are close for all teams. People just want to believe their own team has a higher variance and that they can somehow 'control' close games. Jays were just unlucky this year, that's all.
  22. I approve of it. If the Jays had gotten a WC spot without Price the odds of winning that one game playoff would have been very low against most team's aces. Now the Jays will have at least 50/50 odds if not better in such a game.
  23. All teams might be projected for 87 or in the AL, but the most any AL team was projected for in 2014 was also ~89. A few teams will always exceed the projections, so 87 games won't take the ALCS home field advantage. Most likely it'll be around 97-100 again.
  24. Had the redirect happen today to me
  25. Good point, it would be included in current WAR. Perhaps something to keep in mind though, players that might stand to gain/lose WAR from a better pitch FX (roboump) system. Not just from crouch/lean but I'm sure some veterans get favorable calls...home field bias, etc. I thought catching was a decent analogy (catchers that stand to gain/lose value for framing)
