    Lol this guy is actually whining about nothing ever getting done on the heels of the biggest trade in baseball this year. Did you just wake up?

    I am a Canadian citizen but I was born and raised in the US. Ended up in CO for work.

    I live in Denver and everyone hates ownership. They get really involved in everything and they also stick with their baseball ops guys for far too long, it appears. On top of it they do weird things like write angry reply letters to fans, DUI's, etc. I live right next to Coors though so they have become my second team and from their perspective it is nice to see them FINALLY move on from the Tulo/Cargo contracts. This is long overdue and it has really affected the value of both guys IMO but it's better late than never.

    There will be a lot. Almost all of the names being thrown around as trade bait right now are FAs.

    Yeah I mean the wet blankets in this thread COULD be right in that Tulo ends up like Reyes but it's not guaranteed. This is a good deal for a lot of reasons. -We dumped a bad contract. Reyes has already hit the wall, Tulo isn't guaranteed to do the same. So we've dealt a bad contract for a contract that COULD be bad but won't necessarily be. -Even if Tulo does become a negative asset, we are kicking the can down the road for an older team trying to contend. -AA has shown the ability to move bad contracts in the past (Vernon Wells and now Reyes). This assumes AA is even here in a few years though. -We didn't even give up a Top 50 prospect. -Look at the market right now. The Royals got a better package for a half season of Cueto and this is with 8 good starters available on the market. Tulo is the only SS I know of on the trade market and their are several big market teams that needed a SS. It just seems like the Rockies were a little light in what they acquired. Is this a slam dunk home run? No it's not. But it's a solid B+ to A- trade to me.

    Yeah from Colorado's perspective you can't really give the deal a final grade until we see what they do with Reyes. But getting a good prospect for him isn't going to be an easy task unless they eat some money IMO. We shall see, but right now they traded Tulo for 2 good but not elite prospects and a bad contract. You could make a good argument that the Reds got a better package for a half season of Cueto than the Rockies got for Tulo.

    I agree. The Mets, Yankees or Dodgers couldn't beat that package? Maybe the Rockies think they can move Reyes for an asset? Idk, I think AA did pretty well here.

    The more we hear about this deal the more it sounds like a salary dump.

    I can't imagine AA is done after this. I bet we see a starting pitcher heading this way before the deadline.

    It's possible. lol Not a great front office and hasn't been in their 20 years of existence.

    Well if you look at overall run prevention rather than starting pitching, relief pitching, and defense individually this does help by improving SS defense by a mile. Also adding a decent pen arm.

    You would think he or Reyes would be involved. If it's Travis then perhaps Reyes moves to 2B? But the Rockies have LeMahieu, not sure that front office views Travis as an upgrade.

    No worries, it's all good. With Rogers at the helm will anything change though? They'll likely just hire someone else who has one foot in and one foot out when it comes to advanced statistics. It'll be more of the same s***, hell it could be worse.

    Yeah my premise admits that we don't have a great team but the AL East and the AL in general isn't that great this year. We've got an outside shot at the AL East and a pretty darn good chance to snag a Wild Card. With a team that's old like this if we can find a trade that makes sense we might as well go for it. Yeah I seem to be getting a little heat for that post. I didn't mean a whole lot by it but I did think it's interesting that we lead that admittedly arbitrary criteria in RD. That's all.

    So in other words I should be depressed is what you're saying? Good points on all fronts although you do come across as a preachy *******. But don't teams that kick some serious ass over the first 100 games tend to do better over the next 62 games than teams who sucked over the first 100? Run differential isn't a great prediction of future vents but if we keep outscoring teams at the pace we are, we should do much better. I do disagree that our shot at a wild card is marginal though. After the division leaders and the Astros we've got a better chance than anybody.

    I don't know if this should make us depressed or hopeful.

    No because we are right in the thick of the playoff chase and this Front Office needs to at least win the WC. 6.5 back of the Yankees isn't great but we are in 2nd place and the O's and Rays aren't great teams. So even though we are 6.5 back it's not like we need to leap 3 teams to take the AL East, we just need to beat one. We also are only 3 back of the Twins and our main competition is from those some mediocre AL East teams. We also have played pretty well but we've been unlucky. If we keep playing well we've got a real shot at the playoffs. Fangraphs has us pegged at 34.5% right now, far better than any other team other than the division leaders or Houston.
