  1. But they hit Liriano even harder career wise. I don't even like those numbers as it's 25 or so AB's instead of 10 but if you're going to use matchups like that might as well use the greater number. And why are you so pissed about this? lol I'm not even saying that I'm absolutely right I just think Stroman is the better pick. Those that think Liriano is the better pick have an argument as well, more of a "hot hand" theory, but for either side to definitively say the other is wrong discounts how tough of a decision this really is.
  2. Does he even do play by play for NBA? I thought he just hosted Inside the NBA.
  3. Is this crew any good? I haven't really heard any of them do a live game.
  4. I think fangraphs ran a pretty good article on this some few years back and the regression for left handed batter splits was about 8.5% and for righties it's about 6%. They had some formula you could use and everything. EDIT: Here it is: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/estimating-hitter-platoon-skill/. Tom Tango wrote about it as well: http://www.insidethebook.com/ee/index.php/site/comments/fangraphs_now_has_some_splits_data/#comments.
  5. So now you are using 7 ABs from Kim to 15 for Jones to call for the firing of the Front Office if we lose?
  6. Because Schoop has 379 career AB's vs. lefties. That's not a lot of information. Machado has 669. That's not a ton of information either. Jones has more but there is still a lot of statistical noise within splits and if they remain unregressed they can be misleading.
  7. And why is that? If 75 to 100 unregressed ABs vs lefties is worthless for an individual player, then why is 75 to 100 unregressed unregressed ABs for 9 players each and then added together somehow useful? And I agree, someone smarter than me could blow this whole thing up as I don't know this for certain. But I remember posting about reverse splits a year or two ago and someone called me out on it and really opened my eyes up to how splits work.
  8. I don't think they should clearly be better. But decades of analysis sets forth that right-handers don't hit right-handed pitching as well and everyone who keeps throwing unregressed splits at me isn't going to convince me otherwise. But on top of it neither Stroman or Liriano should see the lineup three times no matter who started so I seriously hope that Shatkins has drilled it through Gibbons brain that it's going to be two times throw the lineup max for Stroman before moving on to Liriano.
  9. As I said I don't really buy in to unregressed splits. Stroman for two times through the lineup then to Liriano is what I would do and I really hope that Shatkins has drilled it through Gibby's brain that this is what he needs to do.
  10. Why should they clearly be worse against lefties? Jones, Machado, Trumbo, Schoop, Hardy all bat right-handed. Do Kim, Davis and Michael Bourn actually make up the difference and turn it in to a team that's better against righties? I don't know if I buy that. I know this season they were better against righties but I don't think that's an accurate indication moving forward.
  11. 4 starts is incredibly small. I'm surprised to hear you say otherwise actually.
  12. Small sample size for Stroman and unregressed splits for the O's are they not? IMO Stroman is the better pitcher he should start. Plus, if they let Stroman face the lineup only twice and then switch to Liriano they'll have to sub out Kim or let him face a lefty, thus neutralizing the only decent pinch hitter they have vs our late inning relievers.
  13. I don't think he's any worse than most people who do that job his problem is that he's not an attractive female which, fair or not, at least allows the audience to look at something while listening to those pointless interviews.
  14. I didn't really see a smile. Timestamp one if you want. Maybe they were joking but for the aforementioned reasons I don't think it's a given.
  15. Yeah the individual awards are just for fun but don't really mean as much. Donaldson's MVP last year means next to nothing compared to that AL East crown.
  16. Yeah I agree, if it's really close then tie going to the player playing in the pennant race makes sense. But to give the award to Betts simply because he has better teammates is ridiculous.
  17. I agree which tells me that these splits are kind of an outlier that don't really tell us much moving forward.
  18. I've waffled on this some but I'd start Stroman. The O's splits aren't enough to convince me that Liriano (as hot as he's been) is a better option over Stroman who had a very good year and has been a very good pitcher ever since he joined the league. I would, however, only let Stroman face the lineup twice before moving to Liriano who would face the lineup one or two times through before getting to our bullpen.
  19. Yeah maybe so I don't know their personalities really. Neither were cracking a smile when they said it, I never really got the feeling that they like Barry and they seem to be a little anti-media lately.
  20. Yeah Upton was saying "Beat it Barry" and it sounds like Smoak did say "shut the f*** up." I don't think it was all in good fun though, they didn't seem to be smiling or laughing.
  21. Why? Law doesn't like Stroman?
  22. Seems like Tillman or Ubaldo. They'll go to the bullpen really soon I'd imagine.
  23. I didn't realize this. I'd probably go Liriano then. I wonder why this is though, they aren't particularly left-handed or anything. Kim and Davis are the only two that come to mind.
  24. Seems like most think Liriano would be the better choice over Stroman but I just can't decide between him or Stroman. Stroman has been good since the All-Star break. If it were up to me I'd put Stroman in and let him face the lineup twice. Then Liriano for 2 innings. Then Biagini, Grilli and Cecil as necessary until Osuna. Something like that.
  25. Goes without saying but either starter will be on a really short leash even if pitching well as I imagine Showalter will go to his excellent bullpen asap. Looks like Gibbons will choose between Liriano and Stroman. I hope whoever doesn't start is in the bullpen read to go at the first sign of trouble.
