  1. I think it's until June or something. Not entirely sure.
  2. Yeah maybe it isn't. That's a lot of dough though.
  3. Yeah that could happen if he doesn't drop his demands. I could see some team that unrealistically thinks that they have a chance to compete (Rockies, Marlins, Braves, etc.) jumping in and signing him at some point.
  4. The pick craters Bautista's value more than most players. The pick is worth ~$10 mil so you give him a one year deal and the pick makes him too expensive. He'd want at least the qualifying offer so that'd be roughly 27 million in value given up for one year of Bautista. That's ridiculous. So ideally you need to amortize the pick value over multiple years, probably at least three. Then it's only adding 3.33 mil per year to the deal. That's not that much really. But is giving a 36 year old a 3 year deal smart? Probably not. So what's Shapiro to do? Looking elsewhere is probably the smart move.
  5. Smoak, EE, Morales, Bautista and Pearce on the same roster? How many 1B/DH types do we need? Who are we the Orioles? I see that you're trying to squeeze talent in there and I appreciate that I just ate the defense that the team above would provide. We are in a really tough spot right now. We need to make a trade badly to go with a Moss-like signing but I don't see one right now.
  6. I'm not one to panic but this team doesn't look so hot right now and it's tough to see how we dig our way out of it. Free Agency isn't looking good. We need a trade of some sort. Dyson would be a nice get but the Royals are probably looking for big-league talent which I don't think we can afford to give up. I'm not sure what other OFers are available.
  7. I thought the T-Bird unis that featured a lot of red were worse.
  8. Smoak might get significantly more playing time than we were all hoping for.
  9. He could have raised hell at the time and I bet the player's union would have went to war on his behalf but it also would have put a sour taste in the mouth of his current and perhaps future employers. Tough situation.
  10. That really sucks for him. And I know for a fact that he didn't step on a sprinkler either. He stepped in a hole in the Jays' s***** outfield in Dunedin while he was getting reps in the OF. The FO asked him if he would be willing to go with the sprinkler story to save the embarrassment at how s***** the conditions are and he agreed.
  11. I'd like to know more about Saunders medically. Will he regain any speed after his knee injury? Sometimes I feel like it can take a season before one is fully back. He used to be a pretty good defender.
  12. I'd like that. For some reason I always assumed his defense wasn't good. I think because he's kind of old and plays 1B. Never steals bases so I figured he was slow. But he's actually a much more complete player than people give him credit for.
  13. Ah ok, I didn't know about the hip surgery.
  14. 93 wRC+ in 2014 and 105 wRC+ in 2016. Projected for a 102 wRC+ in 2017.
  15. Not sure. I get the impression that the Rockies think pretty highly of Blackmon but if they are shopping him maybe not.
  16. Yeah I'm not sold on Upton at all. Not in a platoon and not as a backup. Given that he's free I'd be willing to use him as a 4th OF but I don't really want him seeing a lot of ABs.
  17. I hear ya. Pompey is an interesting one. Zips hates him, Steamer thinks he'll be ok. I'd prefer we just sign Moss or something as opposed to rolling the dice on a wild card like Pompey. I completely agree with you about Smoak. I'd hate to see him starting.
  18. I'm all for bringing Bautista back. But I'm not convinced that Bautista at 1B and Pearce in the OF is better than Bautista in the OF and Pearce at 1B. I'd put Bautista in LF though.
  19. His swing now is a beaut. It's like Colby Rasmus' only he has much higher contact skills.
  20. I would not mind Moss at all. He's average defensively, average bat, average arm, average baserunner....every aspect of his game is pretty well summed up with "league average." Bats left which is good for us. He can also chip in at 1B which is a plus. Sign me up.
  21. That distinction would belong to none other than Juan Gonzalez. He turned down an 8 year, 160 million dollar extension with the Tigers back in 2000. He went on to make about $45 million from that point on, leaving $115 million on the table.
  22. We need to start looking at trades.
  23. This seems a little weird. Do players take physicals before they sign? Usually it's after but in this instance the reporter seems to be reporting that its backwards.
  24. I don't really see any more on this. We need Kenny Rosenthal to give us a scoop.
