  1. Not sure if this has been posted yet but it looks like the Jays are sticking with what they have for backup C. I was hoping for a small signing like Carlos Ruiz. At least with Danny Jansen and McGuire we have some solid minor league depth. https://jaysjournal.com/2018/02/21/blue-jays-content-with-luke-maile-in-backup-role/
  2. If all things remain the same Pearce should be the starting DH and Morales should be a bench bat. So I'll give you that at least.
  3. 2.5 WAR would be a safe estimate IMO but he's played above that per 150 games to date.
  4. Yeah we could have just dumped Pearce or Morales and signed Dyson who might make up the money we'd have to eat with his surplus value. Start Dyson in LF and Grandy at DH. Dyson would see time in CF and RF as well and Granderson in LF.
  5. Yeah and Grandy probably hits RHP better anyway, which is what we needed. Dyson would have been a dream though. 2 year deal for peanuts. I'd have beat the D-Backs offer and then figured out the roster afterward, even with Grandy. So much surplus value on that deal.
  6. Yeah it's not that bad. Gomez might be better than Souza this year anyway. Steamer thinks it's close anyway. They'll probably try and trade Gomez at the deadline as well.
  7. Dyson and Gomez both went for deals that I would have preferred over Granderson.
  8. I read that the team approached him about working as a reliever from now on.
  9. Yeah those would all be solid. I think this team needs rotational depth badly though; more than we need relievers even. Biagini and Borucki are the only depth we have right now and one could be slated to a late inning relief role as it stands. Giving a big league bullpen job to a fringe starter could be a good way to entice one to sign with us rather than sign a minor league deal with another team. It would also add to the pen, so it'd kill two birds with one stone.
  10. There are a lot of fringe starters out there that could become solid longmen. Jesse Chavez, Liriano, etc. Could be a good way to build rotation depth to go along with Biagini and Borucki.
  11. Giants signed Watson and DFA'd Gregorio. I'd be interested in him over a guy like Dermody.
  12. Right so Turner was an anomaly. Can't look at what he took and apply it to anything else really.
  13. Seems to me like Turner just got a raw deal anyway. I don't know if he gave the Dodgers a hometown discount or what but at the time the deal was signed most of the takes were about how much money he was leaving on the table. Maybe that was due to a tempered market but it seemed like something more was going on.
  14. Damn, 2 years and 7.5M total. Looks like some low value incentives too but nothing major. That's a steal.
  15. 5 for 110 is what I'm seeing.
  16. This makes plenty of sense to me but for the "rainy day" and "if he's needed the season might be lost anyway" talk. Every team in the league will use more than 5 starters. I think the average team uses 10 each year. It's not saving him for a rainy day it's better preparing him for the inevitable day when he's needed to start games. But again, I don't know that yo-yoing him between the rotation and the bullpen actually hurts his performance. It definitely could but I'm not sure how you could even measure that effectively. I believe that last year he couldn't even throw out of the windup after remaining in the bullpen for a while. There's probably things they can tweak that will help him be more flexible.
  17. The reason it makes sense is because there is a 99% chance that he'll be needed in the rotation at some point. Does moving him from a starter in ST to the bullpen at the start of the season and then back to the rotation again have an adverse affect on him? If it doesn't then he should be in the bullpen to start the year.
  18. Yeah we had that discussion a while back. I thought AAA was the way to go but I let everyone talk me into him being in the bullpen. I don't think it's a huge deal either way.
  19. Weird
  20. I like Abom's predictions. Osuna Biagini Loup Tepera Barnes Mayza Axford I think the bottom 3 could be replaced. I wouldn't mind a guaranteed deal to a good reliever to replace one of them, probably Barnes or Axford. I kind of like Mayza too.
  21. I don't know how you get a difference of $100k and not end up settling. At that price you are basically arguing over who is going to pay for the attorneys and arbiters to hold the hearing in the first place. There's nothing to be gained for either side.
  22. More details on the Garcia contract.
  23. Move Biagini to the rotation at that point I suppose.
  24. Team option is pretty cool too. Leaves us with enough money to get some decent bullpen guys.
  25. Best shape of his life. Primed for a big season.
