    Hard to gauge him last year. He had a helluva time coming over from Cuba and basically didn't play organized baseball for 14 months. He was pretty bad but played pretty well in the fall league. Hopefully he was just knocking the rust off and can get acclimated quickly so we can call him up by midseason.

    People hated Gibbons the first go around because Riccardi spent all that money and it raised expectations. The 2006 season was actually a good team (think we were 4th in run diff) but the next year we won less and then got off to a terrible start in '08. We were losing game after game and guys like Lyle Overbay were playing like dogshit. Gibbons would just give his pressers and say the guys are battling, etc. but he never got mad at any of the players or called them out. It really pissed a lot of the fans off. I remember this well because I was always on team Gibbons and it was one of the few instances where I went against the grain here and was actually right about something.

    Yeah this Yankee lineup is tough. Hopefully Happ can put up a QS and the offense shows up.

    Gibby is the man. Always been a fan, even going back to days of the old board. I hope he's our manager forever.

    It's not surprising but it's not good news IMO. Tulo to Diaz probably isn't that much of a dropoff anymore but it means a turd like Gift will be on the team and he suxxx.

    Yeah if he stays healthy and productive it will help a ton. If he gets hurt or isn't that good then we are looking at a blackhole at SS which will include a lot of PT for Gift.

    Has anyone with the Jays mentioned why Gift was chosen over Espinosa? Was it because Espinosa was signed late and needs to get some more work in before plays? Or did Gift beat him out on merit? Losing Tulo doesn't seem like a huge blow but he's got to be a 2 WAR player or so if healthy. Gift is a 0. Diaz helps mitigate the loss of Tulo but it means we are carrying a replacement level player to start the year.

    I don't mind Morales hitting in front of Grichuk. I actually think it makes the most sense to bat him in front of the most all-or-nothing bat on the team to mitigate his baserunning. Grichuk will hit about 30 homers this year so if Morales is on base for any of them his baserunning won't matter. If Grichuk strikes out or pops up Morales' baserunning isn't going to matter as much either. Then you have Martin who walks a lot and has some pop (both scenarios where Morales' baserunning is mitigated) and puts him one spot further away from Pillar and Diaz, two guys who don't have pop and who put the ball in play a fair amount.

    That's a pretty good lineup. I'd flip Smoak and Granderson. I'd sub Pearce in for Morales as well. That's about it.

    Wilner had a pretty good call on Vlad Jr.'s homer last night. He'll do fine.

    s*** Asdrubal Cabrera is batting cleanup? With his multi-positional ability I wonder if he's worth picking up in a 14 teamer.

    He started off okay in 2011 and 2012 but he never improved at all. Then as pitch framing became a thing it revealed a really ugly aspect (in additions to the others) to his game.

    When will Opening Day rosters be set? I.E. when do they start putting guys on the DL? My fantasy squads want to know.

    Yeah he's definitely teasing something. Maybe he'll occasionally be one of the guest commentators that is mentioned in the article?

    I hope so. Seems to be the consensus that he'll somehow be a lot better than he was and I hope that comes true but I do think he's going to have to make some real adjustments to get there. Most guys aren't able to make them.
