  1. 100 million isn't enough for the boat I'd buy
  2. Yeah he'll negotiate an extension if he has to.
  3. Scott Boras has become the most successful sports agent of all time by giving his clients the exact opposite advice but what does he know?
  4. Geezus Jim, that's what we got for a turd like Dwight Smith Jr.
  5. So what's Justin Smoak then? He was worse than Pillar last year and is projected to put up less WAR than Pillar by both Zips and Steamer this year. If Pillar is below average then Smoak must suck?
  6. I agree I was just saying Vlad Jr., warts and all, signing an extension like this would have us all howling in delight. Tells you how good Bregman is and how much money he gave up to secure a guaranteed 100 mil.
  7. 2 WAR players don't grow on trees, Jimbo.
  8. After seeing Mookie Bett's arb years where he's going to get close to 20 mil a year for 3 years I feel like Bregman did leave a good chunk of change out there. This deal buys out 2 FA years too which is probably going to take him out of the 10 year Machado-like extension when he hits FA. That said, he has yet to hit a gigantic payday and 100 mil is a lot of guaranteed money to turn down. Seems like a reasonable deal for both sides but I like this for the Astros. As an example, imagine if Vlad Jr. signed something like this after putting up 12 WAR in his first 2+ seasons. We'd be ecstatic.
  9. I'm sure Shatkins fielded offers for Pillar but they just didn't get anything worthwhile. He's a perfectly acceptable starting CF with two years of control left. We can't just give him away, especially just so we can clear a spot for Pompey. And I say this as someone who has been on Pompey's nuts all spring.
  10. Yeah they may just cut Pompey loose. There's a way to keep him for a little while while Buccholz gets his feet under him but it's going to be hard to roster 5 OFers. I would have liked to see them keep him somehow but McKinney and Teoscar probably need to be playing in the bigs and Alford is waiting in the wings and is a better asset.
  11. So either Teoscar gets optioned or Pompey is gone.
  12. Seems like a good deal for the Angels compared to the recent Harper and Machado deals.
  13. I remember when Rickey Henderson and Bobby Bonilla played cards during a playoff game.
  14. The Astros reportedly play Fortnite like crazy. I'm sure the Jays are just cutting it off a couple of hours before the game starts or something.
  15. They could option McKinney and have him work at 1B. Then the first time Smoak, Morales, or an outfielder gets hurt he could come up and find plenty of AB's.
  16. He's out of options so I think he either makes the team or we have to pass him through waivers. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
  17. Well yeah for most diehard fans like us you could probably change nothing and the sport would be better off. The changes are designed for casual fans and to help the sport grow beyond it's regional fanbase into a more national brand.
  18. Thanks. The season is too long IMO. Especially for the s***** teams who are out of it by mid-May. It's endless, meaningless baseball. Especially when football ramps up in late August/September, then these games become even more pointless. The postseason lasts too long as well and it rewards a different type of roster than the regular season too. I'd eliminate some of the off days for that. Not huge changes but small tweaks that I think would help.
  19. Oh come on Jimbo, deep down I know you like me.
  20. If I were running things this is what I would do: Time/pace of play related changes: -Reduce the time between innings even more. I think I read that in the 1970s there was only a 1 minute break between each inning. MLB should do something like that and in order to make up for the ad revenue they could go split screen for the first minute they are back or something. That would be over 15 minutes shaved off. -The 20 second pitch clock isn't a bad idea. I'd probably do that too. -I wouldn't mind seeing them ditch replay during the regular season it takes up a lot of time. Maybe just let the booth review plays only and only if the game is close and late (7th inning and on, 3 run game or less)? Other changes: -I'd encourage more individuality and stuff like that as well. Letting players celebrate after good plays is a good way to allow more personalities to shine through. -I'd implement the DH in the NL. -Shorten the regular season to 154 games. -Condense the postseason by having fewer off days.
  21. I like: -July 31 hard trade deadline -slight reduction of commercial breaks I don't care: -All-Star voting changes -Home Run Derby -Mound visits -Position player pitching -28 man September rosters I hate: -Rosters expanding to 26 -3 batter minimum
  22. Man the NFL offseason is off to a great start. NBA has a pretty good one too. MLB used to be the premier offseason league for its Hotstove Season but I think the other leagues are catching up, especially when you factor in that the other leagues have much more marketable drafts.
  23. We need to seize the means of production from the owners!
  24. Dinger's furious takedown of MLB players complaining about their salaries is exactly the type of mindset MLB owners want the general fanbase to have. "MLB player complaining that they aren't rich enough" while the owners are invisible and behind the scenes taking in record revenues, sell their teams for exponentially higher than they paid for them and get taxpayers to build them new stadiums. This is the wrong way to look at it. It's not an MLB player complaining about his salary compared to the general public. That would be douchey. It's millionaire players bitching about money with billionaire owners.
  25. You guys are so mad at Alex Bregman
