    Must win game. Both teams are essentially doing bullpen games today and ours is a lot better and more well rested. With the off day tomorrow we can let it fly with all of our best relievers.

    Ok I'm sold. Swap Lorenzen and Spaghetti. Lorenzen is the new #4 SP and Spaghetti is a multi-inning reliever available for those bullpen days where he can air it out for 2-3 innings.

    Agree on Spaghetti being an offseason project. He could pan out for us but it's not happening right now. As for other options, I'd consider calling Dallas back up but he's more of a reliever now. Maybe it's Nolan Perry time?

    We have good defensive metrics despite giving up the most infield hits. So perhaps we are in fact cheating by playing back a bit? Which would make us give up more infield hits but maybe we steal more would-be-hits from sneaking through? But as Chris Black says, we are giving up the weakest contact on infield hits, so our pitchers being good is playing a part of this too. Regardless, Olerud has done it again by stirring up some though provoking debate in a way that only he can.

    You could almost argue that Gimenez was positioned correctly. McNeil took an awkward inside-out hack that put some bizarre spin on a slow roller, and he still only beat it out by a fraction of a second. Olerud wants the Jays to position the infielders for this extremely unlikely scenario. Maybe we should have also had Okamoto, Ernie, and Vlad all playing in as well in case a dribbler was hit in their direction? Maybe even bring a 5th infielder into the game to cover the dribblers to an even greater extent? Heck, just leave Bateman out in CF on his own and bring in 6 infielders to cover all possible dribblers. McNeil wouldn't have had a chance then! But on the other hand, it had such an extremely low xBA that maybe Gimenez was playing too deep? Who knows but sucks to lose a game that way.

    +1.5 runs is just awful work. Investigate Chad Un-Fairchild.

    When Taters comes back they should just dump Jesus Sanchez. I can't take anymore of him.

    Yeah it was a combination of bad luck, bad umpiring, and definitely some bad plays by the Jays. And yes, not positioning for the 52 mph dribbler cost them in the end. That ball had a .090 xBA so it was either an extremely lucky hit or s*** positioning by the Jays. Probably both but if he plays in and a ball squirts by him you could critique the positioning all the same. I don't really know enough about infield positioning to comment much more than that.

    That was a crappy game but sometimes it happens. Just need to flush it and win today.

    Orioles burning up 5 mil (probably half of next year’s FA budget) on one of the worst baseball players of this decade is something you absolutely love to see.

    Tigers are so worthless. A pathetic excuse of a franchise located in a sh1thole city.

    Astros and even the White Sox are holding on to pretty slim leads. There's a chance that those two could fall flat on their face down the stretch, thus opening up other paths for the Jays to make it still.

    Not sure that this is the game to do it, but with all the talk about getting Keys some ABs in LF, what about playing Josh Smith there instead? He's got good sprint speed and he's played a little bit of LF at this level. I guess Straw has been kind of sneaky-good since the ASB though. 112 wRC+ since the start of August.

    I mean I don't think much of Robert either. The guy has been complete ass for years now and that's if he can even stay healthy. He's also pretty expensive, especially to a tax paying team. And he makes even less sense for us as he'd be a short side platoon bat for us. Makes a little more sense for the Orioles in that they don't have to pay the tax and he's a full time starter for them. But I have zero problem judging moves as their made. That's half of what makes this board fun is being an armchair GM as the moves are made. So I don't blame Hanton for making a call on whether he likes the move or not.

    Yeah this Royals series won't be easy seeing as we are starting Taillon, Scherzer and Spaghetti. Luckily, we miss their top two starters in Wacha and Cameron and face Lynch, Lugo and Dobnak instead. And the Royals are finally cooling off having lost 3 of their last 4. If we can win this series, we will be in great shape as we've got some good pitching matchups in our favor against the lowly A's.

    If (or should I say WHEN) the Jays make the playoffs, the first round opponent will be the lowly AL West winner. And if (or should I say WHEN) we win that, we would then play the White Sox in the ALDS. Is it safe to say that the World Series will be easy to make? That's pretty much two byes straight into the ALCS.

    I'm hearing a lot of chatter out there that the bats might finally be waking up? 18 runs in each of the last two series against two good pitching staffs.

    I think the Rangers hold the tiebreaker over us no matter what happens in the final series against them. Orioles are yet to be determined. We are currently up 4 games to 3 with 6 games left.

    Texas doesn't really have an easy schedule either. vs. the Rays (4 game series) @ SEA @ ARZ vs. Boston vs. Toronto vs. NYM @ MIN But Cleveland does. So we've got to win this game today to pull within a half game and then take the tiebreaker. Baltimore and Texas should take care of themselves.
