  1. 1 year, 8 million. This is right in line with Craig Edwards projection and basically a year short of the crowdsourced projection. Plus, it's a one year deal so what's it really matter if it's 5 mil or 8 mil? There's very little difference and striking quickly like this on a guy they were able to evaluate at the end of the year makes a lot sense, especially when he helps address their need.
  2. So we are already at the "best shape of his life" stage of the offseason huh? That usually doesn't start until spring training.
  3. Why is everyone on LeMahieu's nuts and not Semien? Semien has out WAR'd him 2 out of the 3 past seasons (the only one he didn't was in the shortened 60 game season), plays a more premium position, is 2 years younger, has a higher career wRC+ and has no qualifying offer attached to him. Plus, Semien has a pretty easy to spell name and LeMahieu has some French name that is f***ed. I guess LeMahieu has better exit velocity and Semien's kind of sucks but Semien has a more ideal launch angle and LeMehieu is in Eric Hosmer/Vlad Guerrero territory. From what I gather, Semien costs probably half the money that LeMahieu does and if that's the case, Semien would be a no-brainer.
  4. Semien got off to a very slow start. Had an OPS under .500 for the first two weeks of the year and something close to .800 after that. He's obviously not a 7 WAR player like he was in 2019 but he should be good for 3.5, maybe more.
  5. Lindor is obviously a great player but with a ton of SS options in free agency in a down market I wonder how much it would take to get him when he's going to make $25M next year? I'd be kicking the tires on him too.
  6. I like your list although I'm not certain that we have to ignore those big names. Realmuto doesn't make sense given our needs and older players from big markets like LeMahieu or Turner don't seem like they'd jump ship to join the Jays. That said, with a suppressed market I could see the team at least kicking the tires on Bauer (unless the team doesn't like his personality) and Springer. Otherwise, I think the team will definitely be in on those second tier guys you mentioned. Semien would be an awesome pickup. Good defensive SS with offensive upside entering his age 30 season.
  7. If Shatkins had any balls at all they'd bring Osuna back for pennies on the dollar but they won't because they are cowards!
  8. Kolten Wong's option was declined. He's an excellent defensive player so he could be an option. Isn't necessarily ideal to add a 2B but Biggio could shift to 3B and Wong could bring his top notch defense to 2B.
  9. Disaster hire all the way around. How the hell are your two main candidates the fossil that is Tony La Russa and AJ Hinch who is fresh off his suspension for the cheating scandal which has the entire baseball world's panties in a bunch?
  10. Fangraphs has 2021 Steamer projections up already.
  11. I would take him. Not sure that he does anything to improve the team defense but he probably costs a fraction of what others are suggesting.
  12. Semien is a real difference maker IMO. Had an MVP caliber season last year and projects for 3.5 WAR next year. Got off to a slow start this year but still put up a 3.5 WAR pace. Given that massive 2019 season I think he has some upside on top of that rock solid projection. Entering his age 30 season I think a 4 year deal taking him through his age 33 season would fit our timeline well.
  13. I don't think there is anyway we outbid the Yankees or the Dodgers for LeMahieu or Turner. I think we have a better chance at signing one of the FA shortstops. If we don't pull off some blockbuster Lindor-type trade I wouldn't mind offering Semien a sizable deal.
  14. https://www.closecallsports.com/2020/10/perfect-game-for-john-tumpane-is-first.html Umpire John Tumpane called every ball and strike accurately last night.
  15. You're in for a treat this winter when we hold another hottest Jays players contest.
  16. That would be wise. We have a surplus of corner OFers right now to go along with some additional DH types on top of that. It's causing a bit of a logjam which is hurting our defense more than anything right now. We also really need more starting pitching.
  17. The new market inefficiency is exploiting Korean players' apparently horrible taste in architecture to our benefit.
  18. Slide Bo to 2B and put Biggio at 3B is probably what I would do.
  19. The 60 game season really hampered that strategy. Another 100 games would have been great to evaluate all of these guys. I agree that we will probably see a decent number of trades this year.
  20. The defense is a damn mess. On some level we just have to accept it a bit and try and outhit the other team. Solving it is further complicated with the addition of Kirk. If he DH's a lot it allows Jansen, who is our best defensive player, more PT at a key position. But that only adds to the glut of DH types who then need to take the field to get AB's which includes Kirk, Vlad Jr., Tellez, Teoscar, Lourdes, Shaw, Fisher, etc. Perhaps we could acquire a good defensive 3B and CFer and then release Fisher, release/bench Shaw and trade Tellez. That leaves Vlad, Gurriel, Teoscar, and Kirk vying for AB's among DH, 1B, C, and LF but that's probably fine. Then pray that Bo, Biggio and Vlad Jr. (he'll never be good but he could go from atrocious to borderline playable) improve defensively. The other option is to just say f*** it and go all out for offense.
  21. It's time for BTS to start up the offseason thread.
  22. Please no.
  23. I didn't realize that Kirby Puckett only had 45 career WAR. He was a first ballot HoFer with 82% of the vote.
  24. Vlad Jr.'s Baserunning = 1, Gary Sanchez's Defense = 0
