The problem is that the free agents suck this year. Yamamoto is good but he’s going to cost north of 200. Cohen loves the guy. Seems like another situation where we can offer him a shitload but they’ll outbid us. Bellinger might be a match but his batted ball profile is terrifying. I think we need to make a trade but we don’t have a ton of elite prospects. FO office has their work cut out for them considering the sentiment from last year and getting blue balled on Ohtani. -

what I don’t get is how the hell do deferments lower the AAV for luxury tax purposes? What was the point of all these other teams signing guys to 13 year deals? Why not just do 10 with deferrals?

Nah. The best player since Babe Ruth gave us a legit shot and it took an unfathomable offer from one of the league’s best franchises to stop him from signing here. I still like him and wish him well.

Yeah with the way sports works they can just kick the can down the road. 10 years from now and it will likely be a new FO and even new ownership. The deferrals will be someone else’s problem.

It's Ohtani's life. He seems like a pretty humble guy. It's probably a little embarrassing for him that he's about to get paid 600 mil and then get all these crazy perks in his contract. There is probably going to be some wild s*** in this contract. Something crazy like a dedicated shoe shiner or dog walker or who knows what else. And Ohtani deserves it for being the best player since Babe Ruth. And if he doesn't want any of that s*** to leak then that's his prerogative and journos (very nasty people) have no right to know that. The entitlement from Rosenthal and other journos is ridiculous. Why don't you actually do your job and work your sources and break a story? If you can't it's your fault, not Ohtani's.

I wouldn't trade Vlad unless blown away but I could see trading Manoah for a 2 WAR position player with some control. Pitchers are very fragile and if he's got something going on with his arm or if he got fat and lost his mechanics he could be washed already. -
