The Yankees could be pretty good this year. But they are going to have to spend a ton to do so and that's just asking for serious trouble down the road.
The Judge (32), Cole (33), Stanton (he's done), Rodon (31 and could be washed) core is signed up for 128 mil a year for each of the next 4 seasons (!!!).
If they throw big bucks at Yamamoto and Bellinger they are adding another 50 mil onto that pile. With various roster filler for the remaining 20 players that they would need to fill out the roster they'll basically already be at the luxury tax entering each offseason until something like 2030.
Maybe they'll just keep spending and blow the payroll out beyond the luxury tax but Steinbrenner Jr. doesn't seem to like to spend like his dad. They aren't even in on Ohtani, for example. I think they are in for some dark times ahead.
