  1. Kikuchi is going to be playing the most inspired baseball of his life after we sign fellow countrymen Ohtani and Yomamatoo. Not worried about him at all.
  2. Yeah kind of but you have to be able to make the case that you are at least going to be decent. The White Sox and the Royals are long shot Central contenders at best.
  3. Yeah I was kind of buying them as darkhorse AL Central candidates last year. Obviously didn't happen but maybe they can do it this year. Mildly interesting team but the Central helps.
  4. Bachelor style copy cat with the ladies lining up to marry the billionaire baseball player.
  5. Don't fret, Dean! We got him back on a minor league deal!
  6. Mariners are ass. Too bad we couldn’t get in on Suarez but it’s hard to fleece teams multiple times in a row. They get snake bit.
  7. They are going to be so bad.
  8. These are the kind of guys you sign in February after you’ve whiffed on the big names
  9. what are the Cardinals doing?
  10. No I totally agree. Everyone is hellbent on improving the offense and getting Varsho in CF so any player that gleans some of their value from OF defense is seen as a poor fit.
  11. Oh wow I agree with your point and then I get attacked
  12. Yeah if the corner outfielder is good at defense the board isn't interested like somehow it's a bad thing
  13. Rockies extended Charlie Blackmon for another year and then traded for Quantrill. That should do it for the Rockies this offseason. Dick Monfort is probably already tanning his cheeks down in Mexico.
  14. Ok after a second look the White Sox are just getting names. They aren't even mildly interesting. Nicky Lopez= all glove bench infielder but starting to make actual money in arb Soroka= washed and makes money through arb Shuster= former prospect losing his shine fast Shewmake= not worthy of a 40 man spot Gowens= 24 year old A-Ball pitcher who will probably have adoring fans on this board (like a certain someone else) but real baseball fans know he sucks The Braves get a controllable bullpen piece who projects well.
  15. White Sox taking advantage of the Braves 40-man roster crunch by getting a pile of mildly interesting 40-man players for a talented but underachieving reliever.
  16. This is probably somewhat true as the Angelos' are relatively poor (for owner standards) and need the team to break close to even or better every year. There isn't a ton of money to be made in operating a team. However, he's a complete doofus because this problem would be easily solved if he sold the team. His family bought it for 170 million in the early 90s and they could get a few bil for it now. That's how these owners get s*** rich off owning the team. So no one wants to hear him crying about how poor he is. He is sitting on billions but he doesn't want to sell it because owning a baseball team is fun.
  17. Ok well I won't buy my jersey just yet
  18. Can someone post the part about the Jays?
  19. Yeah there's got to be some way. Seems like the commissioner has the ultimate power anyway so if they tweak it enough perhaps they could find a way for Manfred to allow it just this one time for a once in a century player. But he's just a stooge for the owners who I'm sure will be up in arms over it.
  20. So under the old CBA the following applied: The uniform player's contract stipulates that the player "represents that he does not, directly or indirectly, own stock or have any financial interest in the ownership or earnings of any Major League Club" except under an agreement approved by the commissioner that provides for the immediate sale of that holding should the manager or player move to another club. MLB rules further stipulate that a manager or player who owns a stake in their club shall be ineligible to work for any other club while the commissioner believes that stake is directly or indirectly held by that individual. That was the old CBA but I think it's been this way forever so I assume it applies now too. But if Ohtani signed a 13 year deal with a no-trade clause then perhaps he could get the commissioner to agree? The other owners would probably cry foul...
  21. I think they'll be fine without those two. They just haven't risen to the 5+ WAR players we had hoped. Instead they are 3-4 WAR players and we can replace guys like that in FA somewhat easily with 6 year 150 mil contracts. We almost got one last year with Brandon Nimmo. Heck, in Vlad's case we might actually get a better player on a lower AAV. He's going to be getting over 25 mil in his final year of arb.
  22. I wonder if the Jays' best chance to land him would be some sort of crazy short term deal with opt outs. 4 years, 300 mil with opt outs after year 2. He could be interested in opting out after year 2 because it would give him a chance to reestablish himself as a pitcher and hit the market again. Or could also go with some sort of 13 year deal and throw in equity via Rogers stock options or something. Hell, give him a board seat lol. Not sure how all that would play out with there being a luxury tax in place. But we definitely are going to need the extra juice to beat out the Dodgers.
  23. He's also landed several big fish including Gausman, Springer and Ryu.
