  1. Why do front offices across MLB hate Blake Snell so much? I'm sure they have their reasons but it seems like a short term high AAV deal could get him. Is he really that much worse than other 100 million dollar pitchers? He seems like one of the most dominant pitchers out there. Maybe a 4 year deal with some sort of vesting option for a 5th would be worth exploring with him.
  2. This would be one of the most boring signings you could come up with but Conforto wouldn't be a bad option. His defense is just a tick below average and his numbers are better than they look as the Giants' home park kills his power. His xHR for Toronto is 19 compared to his actual 14 homers.
  3. Yeah we kind of need any starting pitcher added in the offseason to be a #3 or better. I suppose a #4 or 5 could make sense but it would only add depth in that it would push one of Yariel or Francis to the swingman role but it could make the rotation worse if they aren't any better than those two.
  4. O'Neill could be a decent option with Loperfido as the 4th OF. I would consider an LGJ-like deal for him.
  5. Yeah we will see how the rest of the season plays out. Barger/Loperfido/Jimenez/Wagner look like platoon guys at best entering next year. Perhaps one of them finishes the season strong and looks like a starter.
  6. Sounds ridiculous as it's probably true for most teams but he is exactly what we need. A corner OF/DH like him and all they would need to do otherwise is revamp the bullpen and the playoffs would be easy to make.
  7. It will be interesting to see what positions they target in FA. Some things are finally going right this season after the brutal start. -Horwitz looks worthy of a starting spot -Clement is looking like a solid option -Barger (been hitting well since he's been back), Loperfido, Wagner, and Leo Jimenez all look like they could contribute -Francis looks like he can hold down a rotation spot Seems like a month or two ago we needed 3 bats, an ace and 12 relievers to compete for a WC. Now it seems like we need 1 or 2 bats, a dependable starter and 12 relievers.
  8. I didn't realize how many wrinkles there are to resuming this game. Jansen is an obvious one but there are a ton of them outside of him. This reddit thread does a good job explaining it all:
  9. If we sweep them today is the season officially back on?
  10. So Mattingly gets all the blame when we are hitting like crap and then when we see improvements he gets none of the credit?
  11. Love the replays of Kirk running the bases lmao
  12. Yeah good points. I'm on the fence with him. The team is working with more info than we are so if they bring him back I will assume that they have a good reason to do so. It's dangerous to defer to the Atkins regime around these parts anymore but that's where I am at.
  13. Wow! Orgfiller from the top rope!
  14. I guess the nice thing about Swanson is that when you tender him @ 1 year, 4 mil you are also getting another year of control which is the equivalent of a team option for 6 mil. That's not bad for a reliever with his upside. But he's been so terrible this year it's tough to justify the 4 mil and he's now out of options.
  15. The Orioles just optioned Trevor Rogers to AAA
  16. Yeah 1 year and ~4M will get you an interesting bullpen arm in FA. Guys who signed for around that last year are: -Brent Suter -Adam Ottavino -Kirby Yates -Chris Stratton -Ryan Stanek -Andrew Chafin -Daniel Hudson It wouldn't be too egregious to bring Swanson back but the team would need to have some confidence that whatever happened this season is easily correctable in the offseason. Otherwise they could roll the dice on someone more likely to produce.
  17. His last game was with the Buffalo Bisons The prodigal son returning for one last dance against his former team would have been cooler than that
  18. Votto just retired We should have called him up for the Reds series to give him one last hurrah and a final sendoff I wonder if luxury tax considerations prevented that
  19. It's happening...2 games in a row of Vlad at 3B. What a roller coaster his career has been. We all dreamed of a hall of fame career at 3B and after a couple of mediocre years as a fat 1B, an MVP caliber season and a year that we thought he might actually be ass, it turns out he might get there after all.
  20. Mattingly is an old dog but he has learned some new tricks. Extend him.
  21. You wouldn't think he'd get that much more than Ohtani but due to his age I think you might be right.
  22. He should have just linked the Former Jays Thread and saved himself some time. The esteemed members of this board will no doubt give us daily updates on their success. Though if they struggle I suppose we don't get updates so maybe writing the article was necessary after all.
  23. Mattingly also seemingly fixed our RISP woes. Last year we hit worse with RISP. That carried into this year and I was assured that there was something wrong with our hitters and that it wasn't just statistical noise. But lo and behold, not only did Mattingly fix Vlad, he has this team hitting better with RISP on the year. This sad sack of a lineup has an 99 wRC+ overall but a 110 wRC+ with runners in scoring position.
