  1. Cole vs. Sale, both fully rested with a week prep time. Should be something. Only wrinkle is home field. They may not know that to the weekend.
  2. Rizzo: No more f***ing around boys. Cole vs. Sale is serious business, and we want Cole to have time to prepare. We end this Wednesday. Springer: They said they can pump my knee with cortisone and morphine. I won't be able to get any power behind my swing but I won't be able to feel a thing when hitting routine pop-fly's. Boone: Bosox vs Yankees is special s***. Ever watch game 7 2003? You boys deserve the same experience. We end it Wednesday so we give everyone a chance to prep and enjoy the experience. Charlie: We still have a good shot at 87 wins. That's a real good season. That's a positive season.
  3. According to fangraphs the Jays playoff odds are 23% now. That is actually higher than I thought. So math-wise it wouldn't be a miracle if they made it. In the probably irrational fan brain, it seems like the young Jays are choking, Springer is injured and useless, and the mighty Yankees have veteran clutch guys, like Rizzu, solid guys who won't choke, and want to end this early next week so Cole can prep for the wild card game. So in that context it seems like it would be a miracle if the Jays even keep in it another couple of days, let alone actually win the wild card.
  4. Also. I know it is frustrating but it's better to be professional when the season ends. Thank the people who made parts of it enjoyable. Here is a proper "season over" post. ... Realistically the season is over after the loss to the Twins last night and the Yankees win. While not mathematically eliminated the networks have called the race for the NY Yankees. First off I'd to congratulate the NY Yankees for their 26th playoff appearance in 30 years. There have been some posters who have instantiated that the race was rigged by the Umpires. We condemn these rumors. The wild card race was fair and transparent. I'd like to thank Vladimir Guerrero jr, Marcus Semien and Robbie Ray among others for an entertaining ride this season. Up and down but in it until last night. I'd also like to thank my fellow posters for making it entertaining as always, and the mods for keeping the conversation focused. My understanding is the games next week at Rogers Center will still be played. While it is disappointing that the games will not have relevance to the wild card race I suggest fans still go. Give the Jays a cheer for a season well done, and the Yankees a cheer for coming out on top. Thank you, and see you in 2022.
  5. The Jays haven't had a tonne of luck with high priced acquisitions in recent decades, that is true. Springer is playing hurt and Ryu to maybe. Hope for rebounds next year. Grichuk is Grichuk, hope for a left handed platoon partner next year. Too bad there isn't a modern day Frank Catalanoto.
  6. lol. This thread is really going to be loved.
  7. Ramirez is great but I'm not sure the Jays should pay the price. Keep developing young guys, and look for value on short term deals. Likely won't have Semien/Ray type luck again but can still find some value.
  8. Fangraphs - Jays playoff odds drop to 3% Wilner - Playoff odds are meaningless. Jays just have to win 7 in a row, which happens all the time in baseball.
  9. Elimination day is now upon us so might as well prepare. Here are some ways it could unfold. 1. The soul crusher Jays lose the next 2, Yankees win the next 2, and the mid week games we have looked forward to for weeks are rendered meaningless. Even Michael Kay is bored at the mid-week exhibition that is nothing but a wild card tune up for his Yankees. "The health Unit has let us have 30,000, cheer on your Jays, by the way the games are meaningless... sorry bro!" 2. The Yankee Win! The Yankees Win! Jays win one of the next 2, Yankees lose a couple so the games are meaningful, but Jays lose a couple in soul crushing fashion, getting Michael Kay very excited. 3. Keirmaier's revenge Jays win a couple in Minnesota, and a couple against the Yankees and are still in it as late as Saturday... mysteriously on the weekend. Keirmaier blows a key play against the Yankees in their win that clinch's it for them. Guess his buddy's the Blue Jays won't make the playoffs. Kevin will be sad. Or will he? I feel the mostly likely is scenario 1, the soul crusher.
  10. Semien makes the throw to first and it's just a one game lead.... Grab a couple of other blown losses and... oh well. As of now Yankees have a good chance of clinching a play off spot in Toronto. sigh...
  11. Can they get Ramirez without giving up Moreno? If you mean 2022 Donaldson I assume they could get him by taking the contract and some b- contracts. Kris Bryant would be a free agent option.
  12. Biggio is a controversial guy I guess because people don't believe his 2019/2020 performance was real. However if Biggio could be 2019/2020 Biggio it fixes some of that.
  13. Playoff probability has gone from 60% to probably 10 or something in 5 days? sigh
  14. Well a healthy Springer should make up for Semien... he won't get 7 WAR probably but should add some wins and another star player. If Springer is a disaster again then it means that contract is one of the worst ever and the Jays really have problems. And Berrios for 6 months instead of 2 will make up part of Ray.
  15. What is more likely to happen Soto, stays a .450 on base guy but increases power a tad and is a 45 homerun guy Vlad stays a 45 homerun guy but increases the patience a bit and is a .450 on base guy.
  16. Crazy season... all that was mostly pre trade deadline, it seems like a different world. Best team to not make the playoffs? There was a 538 article about it.
  17. Crazy season... all that was mostly pre trade deadline, it seems like a different world. Best team to not make the playoffs? There was a 538 article about it.
  18. 2 games I keep thinking about Semien's error with 2 out against Detroit The second game of the home double header against Boston... In that game Verdugo hit a 410 foot fly ball that went slightly right of center scraped over the fence by a foot. Vlad hit a 410 foot fly ball that was caught at the wall. Why did one go and the other stay? Because the baseball gods hate us? Maybe it is an ump conspiracy. There is slight variation between balls, and the umps sort them and use the juicier ones in Verdugo at bats, but the deader ones for Vlad. Verdugo also hit a key homerun a week and a half earlier that turned a 4-3 lead into a loss. Verdugo. A man traded for Mookie Wilson who is getting hits for the Boston Red Sox.
  19. Maybe they don't want to come up to Canada because it is a pain with the vax-pass and everything. Would rather go to Tampa in the playoffs where they can hit the strip clubs after without vax-pass. NY might have vax-pass too... but no border crossing. OK. I am misbehaving, but not really trying to start a conversation about vax-pass (that is not allowed), I think whether perceived rules in Canada piss of umps and make them bias is subtly different and could be allowed.
  20. How hard do you think it will be to make a 90 win team a few years in a row with the talent on hand? Injuries hit Groshans, Moreno, Pearson, Biggio, Kirk and Jansen... Better health from those guys could be big.
  21. Some of Wilner's reply guys suggested they have another Ump crew take over half way through the game to avoid the tired ump ending the game early.
  22. Wilner thinks it was nothing against Jays, he was just tired and wanted to go home. Rays vs. Jays, if Jays did go ahead 8-6 Rays would tie it in the 9th, 10th would be full of runner on second ********, Rays would win in the end anyway, and Culpa would have to be there 90 minutes more.
  23. Here is what I imagine TBR: Assign their high performance team to analyzing every at bat of Rays vs. Ray, Manoah and Berrios and spend week working with coaching staff to adjust. Already seen them much better against Ray. Next up Manoah. Expect grinding annoying at bats and a few runs. TOR: Charlie: That Drew Rasmussen guy was sneaky. We'll get him next time. Expect Rasmussen to go 7 shut out instead of 5 this time. Rays will feel comfortable pushing him a bit further to find out what happens 3rd time through the order. (What I imagine is probably not reality, maybe Jays high performance team has some adjustments in store too.. we will see)
  24. Pearson's first start was just as awesome https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/WAS/WAS202007290.shtml Then he lost control and struggled with injuries. Could still bounce back. Pearson's under performed but Manoah has come up early and over-performed so maybe it evens out?
  25. I think this was the 7th worst umpired game this year in terms of impact. +1.92 runs for Tampa.
