  1. One thing in Convo's defense is that he did not use arbitrary end points. So his crime wasn't as terrible as you are making it out GD. But there was no reason to use arbitrary start points. So it was still a crime. It's like manslaughter... not 1st degree murder.
  2. Take a guys career stats -- add in an age factor. That's what he'll likely do tomorrow. This is an .500 team in my humble opinion. Depending on whether they are hot or cold people seem to think it is a .650 team or a .350 team. It's a .500 team. They will likely win 85 now given the start they've had. They will hit near their career averages. They will get injured if they are injury prone. What's so hard about this?
  3. ?? How did I get involved in this??
  4. I forgot about Abreu. It is a deep crop this year. Someone brought up a Stroman/Guzman comparison the other day. Guzman finished second off of terrible minor league numbers (ie worse then Sanchez this year) and a late start. http://www.baseball-reference.com/awards/awards_1991.shtml#ALroy
  5. That is the spirit. Realistic calmness and optimism. I'm being a little silly. Realistically Tanaka wins rookie of the year... hopefully for a low 80s win Yankees team. Stroman is in the top 5 for a playoff bound Blue Jays team. That would be cool. It would be very cool to see Stroman win one tonight. I like the control so far.
  6. Quick Question: Will Stroman be the frontrunner for Rookie of the year after tonights game?? Serious question. If Stroman dominates and the Jays pound Tanaka does Stroman become front runner for Rookie of the Year?? I have no doubt by September Stroman will be running away with the award. But I think there is a chance that at roughly 10:15 on MLB tonight Harold Reynolds will proclaim Stroman as the front runner. Harold Reynolds - "Tanaka has started off hot. No doubt about it. But after seeing Stroman dominate tonight, and the Jays looked very comfortable against Tanaka tonight.. it was their second look at him. I mean as teams see Tanaka again and perhaps have more success... and as the Jays get deeper into their pennant race with Stroman right in the spotlight. Don't laugh folks. I'm calling it. Stroman will be rookie of the year." Keep calm!
  7. From Lott - "Marcus Stroman vows to stay calm in first start in home city – but when No. 2 steps in … http://sports.nationalpost.com/2014/06/17/toronto-blue-jays-marcus-stroman-vows-to-stay-cool-during-first-start-in-his-home-city/ … #BlueJays" This is no coincidence. The word calm is now trending everywhere. JSFIP saved the franchise with his legendary March 31st post. If wasn't even f***ing April and you babies all went insane... JSFIP was the voice of sanity.
  8. Yes. Reactionary negative nancies. That is me. Can't help it sometimes. Never trying to spam when being negative, just have this huge fear of a catastropic bad stretch that ends the pennant race in 3 weeks. Like all of a sudden it is July and the Jays are 5 back. And it's over. But some positive guys are still saying "no we can get back in it", but it keeps getting worse and worse and we are 15 back at the trade deadline, but it happened so fast AA had no idea what to do and couldn't even sell. And there is no meaningful baseball in August, let alone September. So I think it is the fear of a sudden and catastrophic system failure that gets me all uptight and uncalm.
  9. Were you not familiar with the piece of performance art that was the official mlb Blue Jays message board?? There was literally hundreds of accounts with names that were variations of dog and puppy... this guy was kind of slow... harmless other than the volume of crap he posted... and the IQ of a retarded cocker spaniel (dogg was appropriate). Somehow the mods have prevented the same thing from appearing here. There was also a Zee -- I think I've heard it was the same guy but a different gig. More mean spirited and aggressive.
  10. ? I don't think these guys are homosexualists.. And even if they are that's OK these days. Actually I just read in the panic thread that one young guy got lucky last night. But come to think of it he never mentioned if it was a girl...
  11. Another win in the books. 4-6 the last 10. What were the negative nancies getting in a huff about?? 4-6?? It happens. I will say one thing. From the day I watched that first game in 88 I've believed in this team. Through thick and thin. I believed in them in 88, and 89 and 90,91,92,93... and you know what?? I didn't stop there. I believed in 94 and 95. But everyone still did. I believed in 96. I believed in them in 97 and 98. I believed in 99, and 2000, and 01, and 02, and 03 and 04 and 05. For Christ Sakes I believed Russ Adams could play short stop. I believed in 2006 and 07 and 08. I believed in John Gibbons and when that didn't work out I believed Cito would come back and get it done a second time. I believed in 09 and 10 and 11 and 12 and 13. And in 2014 I believe more than ever. You will never find me saying a negative word about anybody associated with the Blue Jays because more than anything I believe in the Blue Jay way. Go Jays, look on the bright side, keep calm!!!
  12. I think there was a religous guy in Major League. If I recall there was a little tension with the Pedro Cerrano. Hope EE or Bautista aren't into pagan rituals to wake up their bats.
  13. Congrats on getting a girlfriend. Or was it just a random?? Or maybe it was your long time girlfriend and you were waiting and waiting and you actually just got married yesterday? Whatever the case congrats.
  14. Savy Gibby. Hale - "Bad news skip. Lind can't play today. And I think Francisco might suck." Gibby - "That's not good. We gotta face that big righty Tillman. Oh well... maybe we can score some points with the boss." Gibby gets on the phone - "It's a reverse platoon... it doesn't make sense statistically but it shows them who's boss. Cito told me he did once it with Brumfield and Olerud. Just to let them know who was in charge" Beeston - "Good move. I like it. That kind of thing is important. This game is all about respect."
  15. ?? Lind and Francisco play against right-handed pitchers. They sit against lefties. Tillman is a righty so it is kind of not right that Francisco is sitting against a righty.... so it must be becuase Gibby thinks he sucks and Lind is hurting. I'll double check to make sure it is TIllman pitching and correct if I am wrong.
  16. It would be great to see them put up 10... as long as the other guys don't put up 12. Keep the positivity coming. Unlike the other negative nancies I'm not against positivity. It's great stuff. Wish I had that kind of attitude. Keep Calm.
  17. I started panicking when Jose Reyes threw the ball away. I smashed a 20,000 dollar computer that night. That wasthe night 2014 ended. Stages 1 through 9 you have up there were inevitable once Jose threw that ball in the dirt. So I won't be losing sleep over any of that. Stay Calm!
  18. Holy s*** http://sports.nationalpost.com/2014/06/13/toronto-blue-jays-hitting-coach-kevin-seitzer-saw-his-hopes-rise-in-may-now-hes-telling-his-hitters-calm-down/ Is Sietzer following us??? Or is Sietzer such a bizarre genius that he was ahead of the game on the entire calmness thing. Kevin Sietzer tells hitters "Calm Down" This might be a special year. Holy s***. Calm down.
  19. In this case 2013 results are relevant. It was the same Roster. I think you guys are just missing the point. If you think this team is a JUGGERNAUGHT! that would win 100 games over and over if you could somehow keep on playing seasons over and over, then you guys are correct. This team will win, because their talent will be robust to luck and/or a bad stretch. If you think this team is not a power house, but is a fringy team that will only win if everything goes right, then I am correct. It makes sense to panic over losing streaks and bad luck because the team does not have the underlying talent base to overcome these things.
  20. Hi CPH I am trying to make a serious point here. And I think it is a valid one. All evidence says that the team is a .500 team. Over a period of years they win an average of 81 games. The projection systems showed them as a .500 team for 2014. That is the definition of a .500 team. .500 team doesn't mean they will finish 81-81 given they are allready 39-29. It means they will more than likely play .500 the rest of the way and finish 86-76. Take the 98-2000 Yanks. A true talent 100 win team that won between 87 and 114 depending on luck and injuries (which are partly luck). We are a true talent 81 team and will win between 71 and 91 depending on luck. Unlike a true talent 100 win team we cannot have bad luck or a prolonged slump and make the playoffs. So the panicking at the slumps and possible runs of bad luck is actually rational. People are not stupid and the panicking is because this is an 81 win true talent organization that cannot make the playoffs if a run of bad luck occurs.
  21. Well said CPH. The rest of us degenerates can't take a few losses. Are we realists?? Or basket cases?? Only time will tell. Keep the faith. Good to see. Wish I could have the same spirit.
  22. It means go 40-40. Win 40 lose 40. .500 record.
  23. Because if everything goes right a .500 team could win 90. They have to play as good as they can all the way and have luck hit them... When it doesn't all go right we have to face reality again.
  24. Here is some math for you. True talent 100 win team hit 40-40 after a slump - It would be stupid to panic about this. The expectation is that the team will finish 50-30 because they are a truly talented team. The slump did not eliinate their playoff chances. Chances are they still win 90. True talent 81 win team hits 40-40 after a slump - It makes sense to panic. This team may have ruined it's chances for the playoffs as expectations are now 81-81 for the finish. People aren't actually stupid.
  25. The problem Gruber is that it is an 81 win true talent team. The realistic expectation is that they will win 50% of their games from this point on. So if they have a remarkable stretch and reach 20 games over .500 then we expect them to go .500 the rest of the way and win 91. Which might be enough to win the pennant. If they scuffle a bit, we still expect them to go .500 the rest of the way. So now the expectation is they win 86. Which probably isn't enough. They need everything to go right or they will not make the playoffs. A extended losing streak kills them because they are not really a .600 team. People are not stupid. They are panicking because this team is not that talented. They cannot recover from an extended slump.
