I'd make that drive from Niagara to watch him. Hopefully the following year he'll be in High A Dunedin and I can watch him for a month. I saw him in extended last year and was really impressed with the raw power....he also played a decent 3rd base. I've seen a lot of players in my 12+years of vacationing in Dunedin and no one stood out as much as Vladdy.
From 71 year old Pablo Cruz, who was one of 4 recipients of 2016 Scouts of the year at the winter meetings on Vladdy Jr..." I've seen a lot of guys but I've never seen a guy with these kinds of tools". I concur.
Always happy to share my observations, especially the low minors prospects in extended spring. Thanks for putting this together King. This board gets me through the months of baseball withdrawal.
Fowler at even 70M/4 plus Pearce is still less than what they were willing to pay Eddie...2 for the price of 1. Similar to what they did last year...Estrada and Happ over Price. I love this administration.
Jays were willing to give EE four years at $80...They probably can get Fowler at four and $70+. For that $80, they would have Fowler and Pearce. I think that makes them stronger.
Glad to see Vlady top this list. I have spent a lot of time in Dunedin watching these young guys develop going back to the Travis Snider days. As I mentioned to King, most of these young guys in spring training and extended spring tend to blend in together. In all those years, only 2 players really stood out from the rest...one was Vlady and the other was Thor with Sanchez and Hoffman a notch below.
Stilson is pitching in the Arizona Fall League and is getting lit up. In the games that I saw him pitch down there, his fastball sat around 97-98 but he walked too many and was getting hit hard.
Maybe our farm system is not as bare as it's made out to be with the likes of Tellez, Harris, SRF, Vlad, Bo, McBroom, Alford, Zeuch, Greene, Ramirez, McGuire, Pentecost.....
Lol. I was golfing instead. Trust me, I really don't care what Barreto becomes, I'm just so happy to have Donaldson. I've got one more game to see on Friday before heading home...hopefully Greene is pitching.
Sure glad I decided not to watch the Jays game and take in the AFL game at Old Scottsdale Stadium. Alford DH'd tonight and drove the ball to right for his 2 hits, the first was a double over the bag at 1st...he has some serious speed.
The star of the night, however, was McBroom who looked bad in his 1st two at bats. He proceeded to hit a 3 run homer and a grand slam both of which were bombs...this kid has some serious power.
Side note...Tebow sucks.
Here are a couple pics of the stadium and Alford in the on deck circle.
You can tell by the picture of the stadium how many people attend these games. For $5.00, you sit were you want and the crowd basically consists of you, MLB TV staffers and all the scouts and cross-checkers with their guns behind home plate.
Not much to report after this latest loss with many Jays seeing action. Greene pitched much better than his line suggests. They charged him with an earned run in the first but the SS should have been charged with an error that would have got him out of the inning. I sat behind some of the scouts and watched the gun...he was hitting mid 90's with his fastball with a high of 98 and his cutter was around 89 with a really sharp break to it. I was impressed with his outing.
Tim Mayza actually hit 100 with his 1st pitch and sat around 97-98 although he was hit hard. Alford made a great catch in right and hit the ball hard but had very little to show for it.
It was nice to see Baretto strike out 3 times again tonight. No games on Sunday...will be at the game Mon to see Tebow against the Solar Sox.
Much better game today King, starting with Alford's absolute bomb to centre off a pretty good pitch. McBroom and Janssen also had pretty good games...been waiting for years for Janssen to show something...maybe this is a start. I'll post Sat after Conner Greene's outing.
Cheers from Scottsdale.
Not much to report King...s***** game...only 1 Jay in the starting lineup ( McBroom ). It was good to see Barreto have a bad game....I hated giving him up at the time. The only highlight of the afternoon was speaking to Conner Greene and finding out that he will start Saturday. Should have gone golfing.
I'll do my best. Are you down here also? I'll be going to the game in Mesa tomorrow afternoon and will give you an update tomorrow night. Unfortunately, I'm only here until the 21st, so will try to squeeze in as many as I can. I'll also include Tebow in my report on Friday. I don't expect to see any front office staff, since the Jays are going to the World Series but Mel Didier is usually around and he is very approachable.
Will Gibby get any credit for starting Estrada? I think these guys ( Estrada and Stroman ) are repaying him for the confidence he's shown in them. Good on you Gibby...keep going with your gut feelings.
Every time I watch him, I think of what our rotation would be like for the next few years. For all the good things AA has done for the Jays...Tulo, Donaldson, Travis, Estrada...that trade will always haunt him.
Thanks for inviting me..I loved it even tho I folded down the stretch. Will be looking forward to next year. Watch for my posts from Arizona on the AFL... Updates on Alford, Greene, McBroom and any other prospects of interest. Cheers.
