  1. For me it's because we took several injured and overdrafted players (Hollon, Murphy, even Smith to some extent), a bunch of college non-prospects, with the mindset of allocating that money later to get more prospects, who it's now starting to look like we might not get at all. The strategy doesn't seem to make sense unless we sign at least 2 of Tellez, Brentz, Lauer, or Tewes. The potential Bickford non-signing on the other hand is just a complete lack of due diligence.
  2. Small sample of course but: Braden Shipley (LOW A - NWL): 2gs 2.25era 4ip 2h 1bb 6so
  3. This whole year has been garbage. Watching the Rangers and Cubs signing a bunch of the top IFAs, watching the Rays and Red Sox having very good drafts. Oy. #LOLTHISTEAM
  4. Great strategy Brian "freaking" Parker. LOL
  5. Exactly. Shipley would also have been here faster than Bickford. His stuff is arguably as good as Stroman's and he's got number 2 starter upside. I don't know why we didn't just take him. I know next year's draft is very good, but what a waste of resources scouting and cross checking this year, and flying out to see this kid just to punt a pick.
  6. A recent-ish article on Rowdy Tellez from PG: http://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=8724
  7. Exactly. Simply retarded from the get go. Shipley's upside is as a number 2 starter (worst case number 3/4), and he'll be ready within a year-and-a-half to two years. Bickford could be a number 1 starter or a reliever (depending on how his secondaries come along) but it will take at least 4-5 years to find out which. Look how well Stroman's doing and Shipleys stuff is at least as good as Stroman's. I realize next year's draft is very good, but our strategy in this draft was just idiotic. I'm reasonably certain that half the members of this board could have conducted a better draft than Brian Parker did. I'm hoping we don't get any of Brentz, Bickford, or Tellez to sign, so that this front office looks even more like the clown show that they've been this year. Clear these bums out! Money quote here from our "brilliant" scouting director, Brian Parker, about Bickford. Gee, you'd think you would want to talk to your potential first round pick more than "briefly" moron. lol
  8. Friggin Cubs man!
  9. Wait, King = Chris King? Or is that another guy?
  10. The high school catcher we took this year, Dan Jansen is having a good start to his career in the GCL albeit in a small sample. 2-4 2r 2(2b) 1rbi 1bb .381/.519/.476 3rbi 2(2b) 6bb 1so
  11. Tellez is probably a 2nd-3rd round talent. So right about the same as Unroe. I think he fell because 1) He can only play 1 position, and it's not a premium one. 2) Some might have felt he would have too much swing-and-miss in his game to tap into his 70 raw power. 3) He had a strong commit to USC. I think he was rated the second best high school first baseman in the class behind Smith. I could be mistaken though, so I'll have to re-check.
  12. I'd be down to donate if the upgrades were worthwhile. My suggestion/request (if possible). If you put someone on ignore they wouldn't be able to see your posts either.
  13. Same here...or at least more position players. If I were to do a shadow draft it would probably go 1st) Braden Shipley, RHP 2nd) Riley Unroe, SS 3rd) Tyler O'Neill, C/2B 4th) Jared King, OF 11th) Nick Longhi, 1B I would have been pretty happy with that haul. Probably even saves you enough money to get Tellez later too.
  14. I think there's a very good chance of Tellez/Brentz and Tewes, but I'd rather Tellez and Brentz. Wouldn't be unhappy either way.
  15. So here are the scenarios as I see them. 1) Bickford signs for slot of 2.9mm *We would have $1,773,520 + $319,910 (overage) + $100,000 (Post 10th round) * We could sign 1 guy for $2,193,430 or two guys for $1,146,715 each. 2) Bickford doesn't sign *We would have $1,773,520 + $173,840 + $100,000 (Post 10th round) *We could sign 1 guy for $2,047,360 or 2 guys for $1,073,680 each. 3) Bickford signs for 2.8 (100k below slot) *We would have $1,873,520 + $319,910 (overage) + $100,000 (Post 10th round) * We could sign 1 guy for $2,293,430 or two guys for $1,196,715 each. 4) Bickford signs for 2.7 (200k below slot) *We would have $1,973,520 + $319,910 (overage) + $100,000 (Post 10th round) * We could sign 1 guy for $2,393,430; two guys for $1,246,715 each; or two guys for $100,000 each and a third for $493,430. 5) Bickford signs for 2.6 (300k below slot) *We would have $1,973,520 + $319,910 (overage) + $100,000 (Post 10th round) * We could sign 1 guy for $2,493,430; two guys for $1,296,715 each; or two guys for $100,000 each and a third for $593,430. 6) Bickford signs for 2.5 (400k below slot) *We would have $1,973,520 + $319,910 (overage) + $100,000 (Post 10th round) * We could sign 1 guy for $2,593,430; two guys for $1,346,715 each; two guys for $1,096,715 and a third for $500,000; or two guys for $100,000 each and a third for $693,430. The third guy would be Tewes in the extremely unlikely 4-6 scenarios.
  16. Definitely. I can see him being a Sean Nolin type of prospect, which would be amazing for 75k.
  17. Oh I definitely want to sign him. He'd have the best raw power in our system and the kid can actually hit. If he became the next Adam Dunn I think we'd take that. As far as the Babe Ruth comp, it's more about being fat, left handed, with monster power. Although it's probably a good thing our AAA team is no longer in Vegas. Why take the chance.
  18. The Sultan of Sloth! jk http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/e4/Babe_Ruth.JPG http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kqvhbgWMMQs/UCIHxefbkEI/AAAAAAAAk5s/ZBk64_UReUE/s1600/draft+-+rowdy+tellez.jpg
  19. I love you King. (No homo)
  20. Tellez physically kind of reminds me of Babe Ruth. Hopefully he doesn't have the same predilection for brothels. lol
  21. I'm not sure. I suppose you could get both. I just wanted to say "Let's get Rowdy!";)
  22. Would you guys consider trading with the Giants for Japanese second baseman Kensuke Tanaka. He was a pretty good player in Japan and San Fran doesn't really have a need for him with Scutaro signed for a while. He's 32 and probably wouldn't cost much in a trade. Plus imagine him and Muni on the same team. lol Here are his stats from this year and scouting report on him:
