  1. Nice and for only 250k. I really liked this kid. One of the youngest players in the class, and already a very good defensive third baseman with a projectable bat. Probably should only hit left handed though (he's a switch hitter) as his right handed swing is said to be not very good. Gudino Lizardo Rodriguez 3 top 30 guys. Pretty nice haul all things considered.
  2. Depends on the return (vis-a-vis Bautista or Encarnacion). Two productive guys in their prime, on team-friendly contracts. At least 2 top prospects and another solid prospect if not 2. Won't happen, but this is what I'd be asking for at this point. Jorge Alfaro © + Rougned Odor (2B) + Nick Williams (OF)
  3. Not sure if it's been posted yet but I found a couple of vids of Hollon from last year. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oFa0dh5-7DA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i-AmEP7YEGc
  4. Stuffwise the kid reminds me of a little Stroman. Smallish righty with low to mid 90s heat, a plus breaking ball, and feel for a changeup. I'm a little iffy on his makeup but I'll take the power stuff at only a 400k bonus any day.
  5. I voted for you strictly for the avatar (jk). If I could have voted more than once I would have voted for Angry, N49, and Deadpool as well.
  6. Nice. Could be our answer at second base.
  7. Does anyone have a scouting report on this Guerrero kid? I can't seem to find one anywhere. I know he's Cuban but, Angrioter?
  8. No I definitely agree that they baby them, but a lot of teams (rightly or wrongly) are also guilty of it so we're not alone in that regard.
  9. I think they're trying to build up Smith's arm strength up again like they would in spring training. His high school team finished playing in May so he's been off for a while. With Smoral I think they're just taking baby steps in general. Big guys like him sometimes take longer to develop than a smaller pitcher would. They want to see the adjustments he's made in small bursts first before letting him stretch it out.
  10. More on the Cuban shortstop Alex Guerrero
  11. Smoral slowly progressing 2ip 1h 0r 1bb 2so Evan Smith goes 2ip 1h 1r 2bb 1so Dan Jansen continues to be the high school version of Brian Jeroloman with 2 walks today. He now has 10bb to 4k in only 13 games played. Rowdy goes 1-4 Frankie Baretto goes 0-3 to continue a July swoon.
  12. Probably the Rangers. They've flown by the Bonus Pool cap a while ago so why not.
  13. Exactly. He speaks with such absolute certainty in a business in which there is so much uncertainty (i.e. Prospect/Player Evaluations). If a player he doesn't like succeeds it's always because that player "changed something" or learned some "new skill" that allowed them to improve, rather than him just having been wrong in the first place. If Stroman succeeds I can't wait for Law to explain that he improved his command "in a way that couldn't have been expected" or he developed a changeup or sinking fastball that offset whatever weakness he had. He basically did the same thing with Matt Harvey. When he burst onto the scene Law was talking about how he learned a nasty slider in the minors that he didn't have before, despite the fact that Harvey was reputed to have a nasty slider since college. lol This is also the same guy that said Bautista was a flash in the pan, and could never have continued success with his approach.
  14. Thanks. I was curious cause he's given up a lot of solo homeruns this year. Someone teach this kid a two-seamer.
  15. updated through yesterday.
  16. Had a good feeling about him after reading more about him post draft. Good approach, contact bat, strong arm. He's going to eventually have to hit for power if he wants more love from those "prospect experts" though (see. AJ Jimenez).
  17. I agree, most likely GCL. Tellez has much more polish than Brentz though. Brentz is basically all arm strength at this point from what I've seen. His secondaries are pretty fringy and he doesn't have the best command. They really need to refine his delivery as well before they send him out there. He has this awkward leg kick hesitation that messes with his command cause it keeps him from striding directly towards the plate. Probably the best lefty velocity in the draft though, and as a former position player he has the athleticism to incorporate the necessary adjustments.
  18. Michael Crouse with a good game tonight 3-3 1bb 1sb now hitting .288/.363/.420 3hr 20rbi 12(2b) 1(3b) 19bb 43so 12sb 6cs.
  19. I don't know enough about Kemp yet, so I'll say Meadows for now. Longer track record, more polish. Here's an article about him written after the PG National Showcase.
  20. So it looks like we have $597,360 left over + 100,000 (I think) to offer to one of those undrafted HS guys. Doubt they take it,but it never hurts to ask. Who knows, one of Ron Healy, Rob Ziegler, Tres Barrera, Keegan Thompson, Dom Taccolini, Jake Rogers, Max Knutson, or Brett Boswell might be happy with $697,360. It's still a lot of money and is pretty close to what Brentz got.
  21. I haven't checked the standings in a while. Where is our non-Bickford pick right now? I'm assuming around 14-20? (EDIT) Just checked. Right now we'd have 11 and 14.
