  1. He's been great. I just wanted to give some due to a couple of less heralded guys. Lugo also has notoriously good hand eye coordination.
  2. Third baseman Gabriel Cenas (our second big IFA signing in 2010 after Cardona) is finally showing something in his 3rd year of pro ball. he's 19 years and 9 months old and in the GCL so just about teetering towards old for the league but not WAY old. He went 2-6 with a homerun and 4rbi today. On the year he's hitting .298/.378/.536 3hr 24rbi 7(2b) 2(3b) 9bb 22so. That gives him a 9% walk rate which is about average though he'll have to tone down the 23.7% k rate. If he can make it up to Bluefield or Vancouver by the end of the year and Lansing to start next year, he should be at an age appropriate level. Shane Opitz a more under-the-radar guy from 2010 is also starting to hit well so far this year. 1-2 with a double and 2 rbi so far tonight to bring his 2013 line to .313/.363/.415 2hr 17rbi 9(2b) 13bb 20so 8sb 4cs (8.4bb% 12.9k%) He's probably a second baseman longterm (if not a utility man) but he has a good contact bat and that k-rate is ridiculously good. Show's how hard he is to strike out. At 21 years and 6 months he's right about where other players his age should be.
  3. Jannsen and Barreto heating up again after minor slumps. Tellez not getting a lot of hits or hitting for much power yet but posting a respectable 15%bb rate to 18% k rate.
  4. Really good to hear about the changeup. I've read before it's at least major league average and could be better. I hope he throws it more, it could be a real difference-maker.
  5. Updated through yesterday. Dang, JP Crawford and Reese McGuire playing well so far. Guess I was wrong about their potential hitting ability early on.
  6. He's eally earning his dough that's for sure. I guess we're seeing why he was once ranked the top HS pitcher in the 2013 class.
  7. He'd look good in centerfield though with that speed. Shane Victorino baby!
  8. If you tweet him he usually answers. I'll check. (Edit) Just tweeted him. Awaiting confirmation.
  9. Shi Davidi @ShiDavidi #BlueJays prospect Roberto Osuna underwent Tommy John surgery last week. Could be pitching again by next July, AFL afterwards
  10. Not sure where to put this but Arizona just put Tony Sipp on waivers. I've always liked the guy. He's 30 years old, a lefty reliever with good stuff. He put up pretty good numbers this year for the D'Backs: 3-1 3.86era 32,2ip 29h 18bb 37so (in an extreme hitting environment). 2-1 2.12era 17ip 12h 9bb 14so (on the road) I know our bullpen is pretty stacked, but we might as well try to get rid of Oliver and what's left on his contract since we're not competing, and Sipp would be a solid veteran replacement.
  11. Nothing new beyond the tweeted scouting report I posted a while back, sorry.
  12. Still out there, and we still need a second baseman.
  13. This guy's looking like a steal at 400k. It's strange to think he was once the top ranked HS pitcher going into 2014, but dropped a lot because of arm issues.
  14. No, I just meant I was not including him on the list since he can't sign for a year due to suspension, though he fit the two criteria I'd used for the list.
  15. It also says JP Arencibia versus Socrates which would seem to preclude JP from being cast in the role of Socrates for these purposes.
  16. Hey welcome back GD. Now, given the unexpected and cheap signing of Lizardo, I thought it might be worthwhile to consider who might still be left to sign. I think we can give out 50-100k bonuses without counting against the pool. I'm not sure on the exact number, but it's akin to the draft where we can give out 100k to anyone without it counting against the cap. As far as I know the following have not yet signed or don't have a deal in place with anyone (sans Obispo Aybar):
