One of the biggest knocks on AA was his inability to plan for contingencies with solid depth and roster management. The first 7 players were stars, the next 13 were okay and the final 5 were replacement level or worse with no room for error for injuries.
Well, the new regime has managed to do the same with the 2019 roster except the first 7 players aren't stars. And unlike AA who still faced a fairly challenging FA market, there were and still are perfectly acceptable to good players available at what should be a reasonable cost.
The front office has proven that they are better than this. They are either tanking on purpose which is a very ill-advised strategy given the owner and baseball market they are in, or they have a grander scheme that still has to play out to use the excess salary space and we'll all praise the genius work come August 1st.
