  2. The Jays traded Anthony Gose and signed a man 8 years older with his future career path. It's basically like getting Devon Travis for free!
  3. LOL: "Napping in my van at whole foods. Dude comes up to me with cash saying his brother was homeless for a bit & he's praying for me" I can imagine how this went down. Man: Here you go, laddy (for some reason this man is an old Irish Catholic priest in my vision), my brother was homeless for a bit and I will be prayin' for ya. DM: No thank you, sir. I'm actually a professional baseball pitcher who has a multi-million dollar contract. I might be in the big leagues this year. Man: Ok, son. Suuure you are. You just gets some rest. *calls up 911* Hello, operator...yes ma'am I've encountered a homeless man parked with his van in front of Whole Foods. I suggest you get some authorities here asap....bring some restraints just in case, he's very delusional, possibly in need of his medication and he could be volatile.
  4. Ah, Cal Ripken Jr....the body of Troy Glaus with the stamina of superman and the mind of a lunatic. Yeah, *he* wasn't roiding at all. When he passes on and the medical examiners do an autopsy they'll find all kinds of toxins unknown to the human race in his body. But we gotta make sure Bonds and Clemens stay out of the HOF. P.S. I hope those O's pricks are still around so they can read my unsubstantiated opinion that their hero Ripken was the biggest juicer out of anybody.
  5. Then Izturis can come back with "Haha, you better watch your butt, Robert Allen!" and they can both have a gleeful chuckle about it.
  6. The only way I'd be rooting for this is if he sucks s*** with the Yankees, gets released then comes here to play for the Jays for league minimum. Imagine if that did happen and he could hit anywhere near his career norm...the infield defense would be suspect but holy s*** that lineup would be stacked.
  7. If you've been posting pics of your sister as your avatar this whole time, he can't be doing too bad off.
  8. Whoever got Cleveland at 81 wins is one lucky SOB. My sportsbook has its lines up now and they are at 84.5 wins so they go from a slam dunk over to a no-play with a slight lean on over imo. Orioles line dropped a couple wins and Twins are up three. Other popular picks like SD under and TB over have poor returns. The White Sox under 82.5 would be my favorite choice out of this list. Yes I know, ugly format. No way am I spending the time prettying it up. 2015 Baseball Regular Season Wins - Regular Season Wins Chicago Cubs Regular Season Wins APR 5, 2015 | 7:00 PM Over 82½ reg season wins1.87 Under 82½ reg season wins1.87 Team must play 160 regular season games for action. 9. "On January 22, 2014, Grady Sizemore signed with the Boston Red Sox. The contract is for one year with a base salary of $750,000, with incentives that would increase the total to up to $6 million." Gotta love this f***ing guy....
  10. The problem is the previous regime couldn't draft a good team if they were in a Yahoo fantasy league with 11 other casuals. Lind, Hill, McGowan, Snider, Romero, Marcum, Arencibia and Cecil is not a core from which you can build a championship. From Michael Young to July 2012 there wasn't much trading of young talent going on - there was just a lack of young talent. And while AA has glaring weaknesses, whatever young talent he has traded away, at least he's done a pretty good job at replacing them. 2015 looks like the best shot they've had for a long time - partially because the other 4 division rivals aren't exactly wowing anyone with their rosters either.
  11. It's funny that people complain about this dude making new threads but it already has 40+ comments in a few hours. He has done what he has set out to do. No fan, not even casuals would expect Ryan Goins in the starting line-up. The misspelling of several names on the roster AFTER an edit is the final dead giveaway.
  12. Even worse....a Ricky Romero rookie card...I'm out about $2 since they're not worth the cardboard they are printed on now!
  13. Congratulations! You finally learned after a thousand posts that the guy who thought using the name "Dick_Pole" (fully knowing that 90% of people aren't going to get the reference for the greatest pitching coach of all-time) might not be the most upstanding of individuals! And FTR, I didn't compare Romero to Madoff, I said he was one step above him. Reading comprehension, my friend. That's why people don't respect you like they do Fidel.
  14. Of course. I was being facetious with my post. Vegas lines aren't even real projections but an estimate of what sportbooks believe lines need to be to get a 50-50 split of money betting on either side so they don't expose themselves to actually making bets and just collect on the spreads. But there is an underlying truth to it - the AL crown is more up for grabs than it has been for years. Half the teams have a legitimate shot. AA picked a good year to get his act together and solve some of this team's glaring problems. It the NL 90% of people are going to pick the Nationals or Dodgers as the NLCS winner with the other 10% being "sleeper" picks of the Cardinals and Giants.
  15. That wouldn't be mine. If I'm making $7.5M a year I damn well better be earning it. There's no price tag on my pride. Romero has to be living with a lot of shame and guilt of being a failure that's being paid to go away, and that must send him into a downward spiral that makes him even worse. The only person who is less deserving of the money he made was Bernie Madoff...seriously Romero is just one step above criminals who intentionally defraud people in terms of not earning his money. That's how far he's fallen.
  16. Gotta love this guy...plays his character well...makes a nice long rant against Boston, a little snide comment about the O's...then every other team its "aww f*** it...push...I don't really give a s***"
  17. Is it just me, or is that Cleveland one really f***ed up? Seriously, only 81 wins playing in a pretty weak division? If there's a good bet to be made, you take Indians +1 vs the White Sox if you can find it. One thing that really hit me when looking at these totals - nobody in the AL is expected to be that good. 87 wins gets home field through the ALCS. The Jays really do have a shot at the playoffs this year! I don't remember a time where there wasn't 2 or 3 teams expected to be at 90+ in the AL.
  18. Jays also gave up a lot more. So I can see why that argument can be made. Still, trying to rank one trade over the other in a vacuum is kind of pointless. Each team needs to take into consideration its own circumstances. Even though the Travis/Gose trade was listed as a win for the Jays, from Detroit's perspective it made sense since they need that OF defense. For the Jays I'd rather have them acquire Donaldson for the package they gave up instead of Wiley for two pitching prospects. If they managed to do both, that would have been cool too.
  19. You had me...I really thought that sentence was going to end with "audit season"
  20. Wow! So apparently the Jays will win the East by one game over two rivals with a total of 87 wins. It's going to be a fun playoff drive.
  21. Promised a shot at significant playing time. No way is a guy of his caliber going to be guaranteed any playing time. If he had a higher offer somewhere else he should have taken it. It seems strange that Navarro hasn't been traded by now. Either AA is really holding out for something good or he is in the plans for 2015. Knock on wood but if Martin gets injured that leaves Jimenez and Thole for C on top of the offensive question marks we see at 2B, CF and DH. Navarro as a backup catcher and DH for $5M really doesn't sound that bad. $2M less than Lind for a guy who you don't have to platoon and would make a decent contingency plan in case of injury.
  22. My predictions: Stroman: 32-0 -2.89 ERA. Yeah that's right negative 2.89. Stroman's gonna confuse hitters so much they'll start running backwards to third base and take back team runs when they cross the plate from first. Hutchison: 428 Strikeouts. Number 384 is gonna come at Houston and Nolan Ryan is going to have a dejected look from his private box.
  23. The smart thing to do would be to trade some of those pitching prospects for position prospects, if possible imo.
  24. I'm sure Pat Gillick's list is much longer, for the fact that all of Gillick's draft picks have played through their careers. Way too early to judge AA's picks, none of them have had an opportunity to crash and burn yet.
  25. Well...if you sign a guy like Shields for instance you help fix the RP situation in two ways - first, you bump back one of the young guys or Estrada into the BP. Second, with an inning eater like him you limit the amount of IP needed from the BP which translates to one less guy needed (the worst one falls off the 25-man) and/or everyone is working a little less (and a little more effectively from less strain). The SP and RP depth situation is one in the same.
