  1. I wish the thoughts that rumble in your mind about the Jays came to reality....the team would be winning 120 games every year...
  2. Who would you expect to replace him, given that Beeston is also on his way out and we might have another off-season featuring the hiring process of Ed Rogers? Unless Nadir Mohamed manages to find an even less important toy in the Rogers empire for him to play with...hopefully the magazine business.
  3. This is a very puzzling comment. All of these guys have 3-4 years of control. Plenty of time to see the young guys develop at the MLB level.
  4. The whole Duquette situation should tell you where to find the ultimate leak in this boat.
  5. If Ed Rogers is the one doing the hiring after Beeston leaves you might get your wish.
  6. Yup those Rays and their trendy empty stadium sure trumps 100+ years of Yankees and Red Sox brand value...
  7. So wait...then this chart tells us absolutely nothing about "umpire bias" or "framing". Better to take the next chart, pitches called balls inside the strike zone, because we at least know their location - inside the strike zone. In this chart the Jays are middle of the pack. Pitches Called Balls Inside the Zone The following table displays: Pitches inside the zone called balls (IzB) Total pitches called balls or strikes inside the zone (tIz) Percentage (IzB / tIz = bPct) 3-0 counts are included The list is from lowest percentage to highest. A lower percentage means fewer ball calls. 8. Better this team win 90 games get into the playoffs and Gibbons and AA are honored with the first float in the parade in November. These dumbass comments "I hope this team will be horrible so the front office can get fired and Rogers can bring in somebody new where it's a 50-50 chance that the next regime will be better".
  9. I guess all the board experts got this one wrong. An injury-prone OF at odds with his former team's management for a stable arm was supposed to be a great deal. Oh well as long as the Jays keep finding these hacks that can provide short-term production in the OF before flaming out the team will be ok.
  10. Well this list is mixed with big market teams and small market teams throughout, so there goes any conspiracy theory that umpires are supposedly biased to certain teams. Doubt the Pirates would be #1 and Yankees #17 if that were the case. The Jays being #28 are indicative of the team's starter's inconsistency this year.
  11. Let's wait until he hits the major leagues before saying that.
  12. Reading this thread it looks like this is going to be a thing here on this message board for all eternity: Every Sanchez supporter is going to piss on Syndergaard or at least twist the facts to say Sanchez is equivalent or better. And every Sanchez non-believer is going to drool all over Syndergaard's crotch and anoint him baseball's youngest Hall of Fame inductee... YAYYYYY!!!!!
  13. With Sanchez's start on Wednesday, here's my guess on his line: 6 IP 0 ER 5BB 4K 3H 110 pitches, 58 strikes, 52 balls Message board stats: 1 Sanchez non-believer has a heart attack 1 poster goes on a multi-post diatribe (I'm looking at Olerud363 as the favourite to provide this one) 1 pro-Sanchez poster has at least 20 posts gloating Every Sanchez non-believer calls the guy gloating an idiot. Over/Under for # of pages this thread will have 24 hours after Sanchez's start is 80. Edit: Oh, and Sanchez improves to 4-2.
  14. Even with a robo-ump behind the plate, the flesh and bones umpire will still have a huge impact on the game there so the earpiece thing can still work since he's far from a mimic. Safe/out calls at the plate, determining foul tips, hit batsmen, balks etc. I think people are far overestimating the tendency for umpires to make a mistake. I think they do a pretty damn good job overall and the bulk of them aren't f***ing *******s who dedicated their life to upholding the integrity of the game as best as they can to their ability. It's basically a thankless, though well-paid job, no different than a garbage man or bureaucrat. People will hate you if you mess up once, but not thank you for the other 99 times you do a great job.
  15. That's pretty badass. It's one thing to collect this stuff while shopping in the Jays store at the Rogers or on eBay or wherever...another thing to have collectibles that are accumulated over an achievement of being a fan for decades (assuming it's all your stuff and not inherited/purchased from somewhere).
  16. "The Show off your Jays paraphernalia thread" So is this where I show off my crack pipe with the Jays logo on it? Most of my collectibles are in the form of old school baseball cards. I have team sets of Topps, Fleer etc going back to 1977 through 1994 somewhere in my mom's house. The wicked combination of puberty, a baseball strike and my team sucking forever beyond that point killed that hobby or I might be looking like the Comic Book Guy from the Simpsons by now.
  17. I am 100% against it. Mastering the strike zone as a player is a skill, one that goes beyond framing. A smart pitcher-catcher combo will/should not only know the strengths and weaknesses of the hitter up to bat but the tendencies of the umpire too. Any problems with umps are more likely solved by firing the douchebags that purposely use their position as a power trip, rather than putting a machine on duty behind there. A kid like Sanchez isn't getting calls that are on the corner? Tough s***. Don't walk 5 batters a game and miss your catcher's target and maybe the umpires will have a better perception of you and give you the benefit of the doubt on those close calls.
  18. Give credit to Hurl, he's the one guy that I know of in this alleged Rays group that's been dead silent in this thread.
  19. On a positive note about this thread, I guess it proves that any so-called Rays fan in here are really just trolling everyone when making that claim. Nobody would argue so passionately that Sanchez needs to be in AAA while (hopefully) replacing him with somebody better without wanting this Jays team to be the best they can be. If I was a Rays fan I would be gleefully cheering the possibility that my offensively-bereft team would be facing Sanchez three more times this year and get a much-needed 20 free passes in those three games if he were to last the year in the Jays' rotation.
  20. Let's hope for those people who pick B they also help the Jays hire a GM who can restock the farm as fast as he can trade it away. If Ricciardi was still heading up the Jays A.J. Jimenez would be this team's best prospect.
  21. 5 pages of this s*** lol Nobody in their right mind can say that a pitcher who walks nearly a man an inning and walks about as much as he strikes out can say that he's pitching well. The only guy who I remember having any sort of success in the MLB with a walk rate like Sanchez is Mitch Williams, and that was greatly aided by his ability to pick guys off base. The flip side being you don't toss away a guy who just threw 7 shut out innings. He had tough calls go against him and he pitched himself out of a jam he got himself into in a tight game at the time. He didn't lose his cool and his arm didn't fall off so he could throw what ended up being a pretty good game. So there is something there. The solution to Sanchez is to let him pitch but give him a tight leash. He can have one, maybe two s***** games that's reflective of his poor K:BB ratio before he gets sent down. If he solves his control issues while keeping the team in his games, then all is good. Personally I don't give a s*** if he walks 5 a game every start for the rest of the year if it results in 6+ innings and 3 or less runs given up in the bulk of them. Is last night sustainable? Very likely not. But who knows maybe the guy gets his rocks off walking lead off men and that extra shot of testosterone turns him into Superman on the mound.
  22. Well said. Maybe the team should come up with a celebration if their starting pitcher is still in the game in the 6th inning. I wonder if this stuff will start a rift in the clubhouse. The offense is good and they do have reason to celebrate, but they are still just a .500 team.
  23. If you're a young pitcher that's been walking the park and show little command, you're not gonna get those strikes from the ump. Sad but true human part of baseball.
