  1. Most valuable in the business sense would be the guy who adds value to your team (on field play, asses in seats in the stands, merch sales etc) less how much you pay that player. Donaldson gets paid $1.7 million less than Trout this year, so he has a head start on that end.
  2. f*** all you non-homers using things like stats and logic to defend Trout. The MVP is and always has been a touchy-feely award based on a lot of factors outside a players control, including if his team makes the playoffs (or at least contends). Why should things change now? Imagine if Trout gets traded to an NL team half way through next season and puts up a 10 WAR year - 5 in each league. He wouldn't be considered an MVP candidate in either league assuming there are players who put up greater than 5 WAR seasons in both using strictly WAR data.
  3. No I disagree, at times like these even the trolls should be allowed to celebrate. The worse this place becomes the better the Jays seem to play.
  4. It's been an amazing turn of events for Dickey. Goes from a POS that we want out of the rotation to Cy Young numbers and a man who we want pushed up to face the Yankees in a key game. If Stroman comes back strong the Jays suddenly added three "ace" pitchers in a matter of two months.
  5. At this pace, you still won't get exciting September ball...Jays up by 10 by Sept 1
  6. You're forgetting KC/Detroit. Jays are 7 GB for the AL #1 seed. I concede nothing!
  7. Outside of Alomar, I can't think of a former player that wasn't treated well by the Toronto fans when he returned. ...maybe Clemens too. I don't recall how fans reacted but I can understand if there was disdain.
  8. Maybe you can switch to that board made by that guy who got very, very upset that no one was switching to his board.
  9. LA, Houston and KC are all competitors to the Jays' playoff aspirations, just one tier behind the Yankees and O's. Two weeks ago our prime aspiration was for the Jays to make a wild card spot. One week ago it was the division. Now it should be home field throughout the playoffs because we know it makes a huge difference for this team. Two weeks ago I'd definitely be cheering the Royals over the Twins when they face off...now it'd be the opposite.
  10. I like this advantage for the pitchers, but I particularly like it for the position players, especially considering the ages of the players that the Yankees heavily rely on. Not only the Yankees, but the Jays have 2-4 games up on all of their closest competitors in the AL.
  11. Also it doesn't help that the title of this thread just screams jinx.
  12. How would you react if someone started making an argument to keep RA Dickey next year because of the number of RBI he has this year? I agree there's a number of people who unfairly jump on people on this board, but all hell didn't break loose in this thread until he started talking about the George Bell FIP thing. There's really no coherent rebuttal you can create to that, thus the mockery and sarcastic posts.
  13. "The Blue Jays always struggle at Yankee stadium" http://www.baseball-reference.com/games/head2head.cgi?teams=NYY&from=1977&to=2015&submit=Submit Yankees versus Jays at home since 1977: 167-119 Yankees versus Orioles at home since 1977: 180-113 f*** off Orioles fans.
  14. That's 2018's problem. And by "they" meaning Rogers, can afford it. Whether they want to afford it is another issue. If this baseball club wins a World Series and packs houses every night, who knows what the impact will be.
  15. It would be preferable IMO to skip Hutchison altogether. There is some merit to your idea having Hutchison follow Dickey (knuckleball effect), but Hutchison is a professional. He knows his job is to deliver, no one needs to tell him that he is in hot water.
  16. I remember that one year when George Bell went 27-5 with a 2.52 ERA and won the MVP award.
  17. As a fan of not giving more money to corporations than necessary, I would rather personally kiss his ass goodbye than participate in a fund drive which I am hoping is just a joke/drunk rant (I'm looking at the OP) rather than something people are actually serious about!
  18. Instead of that maybe Rogers can have a cell phone service drive. 2 million new signups to $100+ a month two-year contracts should get he job done...$4.8 billion + right there.
  19. ???? I was a kid back at the time, but I clearly remember Tom Cheek's "touch 'em all, Joe"
  20. I wasn't making fun of the situation. I simply pointed out that the fool at the top of your third-rate MLB franchise and the animals who cheer for it pushed a man over the edge just because their failure of an organization did what it thrives best at - failing - and needed a scapegoat. Now you can go back on sulk on your own board for what you have done. I'm really, really upset that the guy who actually types out the word "prolly" called me a 14 year old.
  21. Boxcar chiming in with his usual criticisms in this thread without actually contributing anything useful himself. Lets BTS do all the talking for him. Nice to see some things never change.
  22. Solution: 4-man rotation: 1. Rental guy, might as well make the best use of him 2. Old-ass durable guy 3. Old-ass knuckleballer that hasn't been pitching atrociously lately 4. Who cares 5. No shortage of days off. The Jays have 53 games left versus 55-56 for all their closest rivals. I'm sure it's feasible short of any other solutions.
  23. 9.87 era!!!
  24. That's a good thing. One game closer to Houston which could be a competitor for WC1 or for home field should the Jays win the division. Also, yay the Jays are up to 69% http://www.fangraphs.com/coolstandings.aspx
