  1. I doubt Sanchez starts at buffalo, but time will tell. Estrada, Happ, Buehrle, Dickey, Stroman, Hutch, Sanchez...that's 7 guys. Norris is an emergency option, and Redmond has started as well. I think it's highly probably moves are made and the names change before spring training, but the depth isn't that bad...the issue is not having the front of the line starters.
  2. so the Jays have zero chance of competing? They finished 5 wins short of wild card birth and Lawrie, EE and Lind all went down at the same time. We had bullpen pieces in Santos and Delabar collapse and janssen missed almost 2 months. Stroman and Hutch have more experience going into next year. Stroman will be with the club full year. Sanchez will also be there a full year, but time will tell in what capacity. Making the playoffs is never easy. The offseason is young and there are plenty of moves that could be made before it's all said and done. To suggest that the Jays should abandon ship because they have no shot is ridiculous. They absolutely have a shot. Will they make the playoffs next year? Who knows. KC hadn't made the playoffs since 85 prior to last year. Maybe next year will be the Jays year. You can never make the playoffs if you don't have good pieces. Martin will be a good piece for the next 5 years.
  3. Martin is signed for 5 years. Are you saying there's no chance of competing for 5 years? Sanchez, Norris, Stroman, Hutch, Hoffman, Osuna.....do you not want an experienced catcher to work with young talent? I guess you've determined these guys are not good today, and will never be good over the next 5 years with your "our starting pitching is not very good" comment. We didn't give up any assets to acquire Martin. Why are you so concerned about Rogers bottom line...lol.
  4. Things have been going right for Rays in terms of pitching for about a decade . It is possible for young pitchers to work out. What does certainty in the rotation mean? The O's spent 15 mil a season on Jimenez and he was crap last year. You have to spend a lot of money on the few guys who can provide certainty. Every staff has question marks going into the season. Will this starter who was great last year have a bad year this year. Any winning team needs some guys to surprise, to stay relatively healthy and have your stars play well. Stroman, Sanchez, Norris and Hutch are talented guys....you need a couple of them to work out of the next few years.
  5. Hutch pitched 184.2 innings and posted a 3.85 FIP and a 3.82 xfip. That's not so bad for a first year starter. Old guys put up numbers of mid rotation guys..not back end rotation guys.
  6. Buehrle got paid 18 mil last year....he's going into the last year of his contract...1 year 19 mil is steep, but they could eat a bit of the contract to move him if they wanted. They may want to keep him. I could see the Dodgers overpaying for a guy like Buehrle. There's a ton of certainty with Buerhle.
  7. I think VMART would have been a terrible signing. I'm glad the Jays still have the money to attempt to buy Martin...which has a 99.4% chance of ending up came close but no cigar scenario as well.
  8. The top marginal rate in Alberta is 39%..let's move the team to Calgary so we can get some decent free agents.
  9. we should have some payroll flexibility. The Jays have Dickey's 12 mil coming off the books with a 1 mil buyout....buehrle's 19 mil, Romero's 7.5 mil, izzy's 3 mil..they just shed rasmus' dollars lind dollars and Melky's dollars as well. They don't have a lot committed for 16, 17 and 18.
  10. yeah...the monstor trucks or Disney on ice probably have more to do with it than the argos!
  11. Somehow you'd think they'd be able to use that. Trade him to another team contingent on him renegotiating for a 1 year 12 mil deal....you would be able to get something back for buehrle at 1 year 12 mil.
  12. Burnett turned down a 12.75 million dollar player option to play in Philly, so it's not like he was going play for the Jays for 8.5 mil. He took 4 million dollars less to play with the pirates. What does that say about the Phillies. It kind of got me thinking. If Buehrle had the option, how much less would he take to play somewhere else? Would he take 5 mil less to play somewhere else?
  13. The guy played with a tumour on his spine when he could barely run. I don't think you have to worry about his effort level
  14. Will 4 years be enough to get Martin? He probably will get 5 from someone. He will be 32 before the start of the next season. He has a fair amount of miles on his body. He had a great offensive year last year, but I highly doubt he puts up those numbers again. Almost all his value comes from defense. There is some injury risk with Martin...he's going to be an awfully expensive dh if he can't play defense towards the end of that contract. How well will his defense at 36 or 37 compare to last year's defense when he was 31?
  15. good thing Melky isn't a heavy player.
  16. melky will hit for 6 to 7 more years. He's a professional hitter. We got rid of our DH and Melky still has a couple years where he can play left field or split time. Melky at 3 for 39 or 4 for 50 is a buy imo.
  17. Dirks and Pompey are at least intriguing options though. Both are high risk, high reward. Gronkowski has had a pretty good year after having back surgery. Dirks could bounce back and play very well, or he could be a complete bust. He's cheap though....I'm glad we're rolling the dice on dirks.
  18. Third base puts a lot more stress on Jose's body. He's getting older. He's our best hitter. His defense at 3rd is below average. His defense in RF is slightly better than average. There's almost zero chance that Jose will be at third.
  19. Is this a serious post? You're going to write a guy off for all the minor league starts he made from the ages of 17 to 21? The length of pitchers who struggled early and in the majors as well and went on to be great starting pitchers is long. There's no way Sanchez won't get a chance to start in the majors. When you're constantly changing your mechanics and working on different things, you won't necessarily be lights out. That's what the minors are for. It's called development.
  20. how can Sanchez be a failed starter when he's never made a start before?
  21. Lind had one 15 dl stint due to a back injury this year and last year did not have a dl stint due to his back and missed about 5 games. He missed 2 months this year due to a broken foot...his back hasn't caused him to miss that much time.
  22. and lind has 2 years of control and Estrada has one year of control. This is unbelievable. Why does AA have a job.
  23. talk about premature ejaculation....seriously AA you could have done way better than this. Fire this fool.
  24. says deal is done now.....AA is an idiot....fire this fool...Estrada for lind straight up....give me a break
  25. I thought this was a pretty good trade when it first happened...Santos has been a massive disappointment....oh well
