  1. The only ignorant people that need to be informed are the umps. As data becomes available and they are informed, how will they react?
  2. You're right, I didn't read the article. Way to go Sherlock.
  3. How do you know what I have and have not read..lol. Baseball's a pretty simple game in your world, isn't it!
  4. the numbers are pretty f***ing reasonable. You've taken high school math. You don't have a degree in mathematics or statistics from a university. You're not even qualified to give that opinion. The people quantifying these numbers would acknowledge the vast margin of error associated with them. I've passed calculus and stats courses at a post secondary level. Remember, I'm old. I don't spend my entire day reading baseball websites, but it doesn't mean I'm not aware of sabermetrics or entitled to give an opinion on them.
  5. yeah...exactly my point. You'll never get statistics on a catcher's ability to call a game, because it's subjective. It doesn't mean it's not a valuable skillset meaningful to a team.
  6. I don't have an issue with idea of framing. I have an issue with the accuracy and margin of error in the number, which is Gigantic. I watch umps call strikes that are 6 inches off the plate where the catcher noticeable moves his glove across his body because the pitcher missed his spot. I see umps call balls on strikes 3 inches inside the plate where the glove doesn't even move and the pitcher hits his spot dead on. Sometimes it's not the framing, it's the s***** ump. Offensive statistics are park adjusted. Are framing statistics ump adjusted? Anyone who has Hernandez behind the plate more often than most is probably going to have s***** framing statistics. Pitchers reputations go into calls. Working with pitchers who hit their spots more consistently than others would effect your framing statistics. All this without even getting into the errors associated with technology. It's voodoo science I say.
  7. How can you even reference framing without mentioning the statistics for calling a great game.
  8. It's difficult to cover for injuries better going into a season. You have organizational depth. If you get significant injuries you do one of 3 things. You bring up your young unproven talent from the minors. You pull experienced guys off the scrap heap or you do what the Yankees do and overpay for players on other teams like the Yankees do. The Jays talent that was close to major league ready wasn't that good. They didn't pick up any Jesse Chavez type guys off the scrap heap. You either have to trade away experience to get young players, or hope the next wave is better. At least Pompey hit a dinger tonight!
  9. that's just voodoo science you speak of..
  10. whoever is in charge next year should order less injuries..lol
  11. I just looked at the all mighty fangraphs and they have Navarro at a 2.0 WAR for the season. Navarro playing the way he did making 3 mil was the least of our worries. We need to address 2nd base and strengthen depth. I agree that the bullpen is a crapshoot and so are injuries. Both didn't go the way of the Jays because all Toronto sports franchises are cursed. If we just moved the team to Vancouver, all problems would be solved.
  12. sometimes I make a post thinking it's the gameday thread and realize after I had switched and was reading another thread by accident. It comes with old age...I guess I'm the only one who does that!
  13. I don't know if you're being a smartass or just accidently posting in the wrong thread..RA just struck a guy out!..lol
  14. without a doubt if you were to point out just one area, it was the back end of the bullpen. Janssen had 5 blown saves in 29 chances, although 1 of them wasn't his fault though. Loup who was good this season but tightened up when given the save opportunity and converted just 4 of 9 opportunities. McGowan was 1 for 5. Santos was 5 for 8, and Cecil was 5 for 7. More games of course were blown in the 7th and 8th innings by Santos and Delabar, McGowan..etc. When you look back on the season and think about all the games the Jays gave away vs the games they stole...there were way more games they gave away than stole. I don't think most would have thought the back end bullpen guys would have cost us the season going into it, but that was the case. Of course the injuries to the lawrie, lind, Colby, reyes, melk man and EE throughout the season didn't help matters any, but if the back end of the bullpen would have been good they would have weather the storm of those injuries. Unfortunately the back end of the bullpen wasn't even average...it was crap.
  15. amphetamines are a lot different than steroids, but you have to be smarter than this.
  16. typically you provide a link when posting such information
  17. This is all hearsay and Rasmus has a right to be pissed. He shouldn't vocalize that frustration though. He's in a contract year. Has he been wonderful? No. Has he been JPA god awful? Absolutely not. He has 3 hit in his last 6 plate appearances off the bench with 2 being home runs. The decision for him not to play is coming from AA. The Jays have inched back closer to being in this thing and Rasmus is seeing lessor players starting ahead of him.
  18. so that suspended game that KC was losing 4 to 2 in the with the top half of the 10th done. They don't replay the entire 10th inning do they. They just play the bottom of the 10th. Is that correct?
  19. iwakuma vs a guy making his mlb debut....talk about a mismatch...but looking good so far!
  20. 3.5 back looks like it might be possible...early 3 to 0 lead. I wasn't that hopeful with iwakuma starting, but they got to him. Seattle faces the A's in the next 3 and then have a 4 game series against the angels. We just need KC and or Detroit to collapse somehow.
  21. and Houston takes an early 2 to 0 lead in the 2nd off iwakuma and the mariners
  22. okay...maybe we should sign morrow at a reduced rate to close next year..lol
