  1. so you didn't like the Donaldson trade? I'd do that Donaldson trade every day of the week.
  2. I'm curious, are you basing this off projections of others, your own opinion? Is your opinion based on statistical analysis or qualitative analysis? Are you weighting more of your opinions based on what you've seen from spring training, or last year when you saw him.
  3. any word on how Santana is coming along and when he might be able to pitch? He might actually get his shot now.
  4. pretty crazy that Saunders is taking batting practice already. He's going to be playing games in a week to 10 days at this rate. He probably will be ready for opening day.
  5. Castro is a fastball pitcher. He's less likely to need to spin the ball than other pitchers. You show me all the thousands of biomechanical research studies you've done and maybe i'll lend some credence to your opinion on the differing effects of pitching in the majors vs the minors. As it is pitchers are going down left right and centre and there's a multitude of opinions from actual medical professionals as to why this is happening. If Castro makes the team he's going to pitch a lot more than 30 innings. I don't know if he's ready or not. If he is the Jays will put him on the team. They are monitoring his progress a lot more closely than you or I and are more qualified to make that decision.
  6. Jose Fernandez skipped AA and AAA. When you're ready, you're ready. He's having tommy john right now, but Castro would be pitching out of the pen and not logging the innings Fernandez does. If the kid is demonstrating good command of his pitches, why wouldn't he make the team?
  7. yeah the 95 mile an hour 2 seamer that started at the hitter freezing him and road back over to inside edge of the plate for a called strike three doesn't count because it wasn't a swinging strike. Secondly, Sanchez had more than one swinging strike so how important can a stat be when it's not accurate..lol. You must have loved when the Jays traded Henderson alvarez....I don't know why the marlins aren't trading him now..lol
  8. maybe you should go by what actually happened rather than what you recall and not solely focus on the negative, because you're clearly biased on the subject!
  9. izzy's looked about as well as he could so far this spring...defense has been solid
  10. I hope all this competition brings out the best in everyone. I'd love to see smoak, barton, sanchez, Norris, Santana, viciedo, dirks, pillar, travis etc all having good springs and management coming to the end of spring training going...great what do we do with all these guys now. Having to make tough decisions because you have so many players playing well is a lot preferable to the alternative.
  11. spring training is hard to judge a guy. Players have great spring trainings and then are crap in the regular season. If dayan plays well in spring, you take the gamble and see if he can carry it to the regular season. 2.5 mil for one year doesn't hurt the financial flexibility for the club moving forward. We're lower in payroll to start the season than what most thought we would be anyways.
  12. yeah...I was drinking coffee as I scrolled down the thread and literally had the cup almost to my mouth when I read hurl's comment...I now have a coffee stained t-shirt, but I'm at home, so no biggy.
  13. you're always s*** until you aren't anymore. Kasmir was s*** until he wasn't anymore. EE and Lind were s*** until they weren't anymore. The both were sent to the minors. Johan and Viciedo are both on minor league deals...they won't necessarily play in the big leagues. It's a low risk gamble on both players
  14. It's more of an issue when you are 50 or 60. I don't think the immediate impact will hurt his game that much at all.
  15. yeah..boston with a couple of good options....what are the odds they want to help us out
  16. Lind said he was friends with Buehrle and Bautista. Lind would get along with Barry Bonds....he gets along with everyone
  17. I agree....Lind never said anything bad about the Bautista and Buehrle. He said Martin would be awesome. He even eluded to the fact that Colby was a different cat. That was a typical Lind interview...complete honesty. I think he's pretty easy going and gets along with everyone. His perception that the guys they moved weren't an issue is just his perspective on life. He had nothing but good things to say about Toronto and his love for the city. Lind has had a .930ish OPS the last 2 seasons against right handers. When you have a Valencia you can platoon him with who has a career .870 OPS against lefties that would have been pretty nice in the 6 hole. Adam Lind isn't the most dynamic person. He's not the brightest bulb by any means. People wouldn't gravitate towards him at parties to listen to the scintillating stories he tells hanging on his every word. He's a guy in the background, but a pretty good guy on the whole. The comments he made in this article are a million miles away from what Latos said. I don't think his comments were in any way disrespectful.
  18. The 2007 red sox had pedroia at 2nd in his rookie year and ellsbury came up that year and played in the world series....2nd and centre no less! Here's to hoping pompey plays all year and travis comes up at some point in june or july...we're just switching around which rookie plays all season and which one comes up half way through!
  19. It's not just your payroll with respect to the entire league, it's the payroll with respect to your division. You play almost half your games in your division. The royals don't have a big payroll, but they were second in their division. St. Louis is not over the top, but they were neck and neck with the Reds for the top payroll in their division. The Jays have a big payroll, but lag the Yankees and Sox by a sizeable margin and are third in the division. That said, the Orioles won, the Rays have won and the A's win, so the Jays payroll is sufficient enough to win, but it's always going to be a bigger struggle for the teams in the AL east or the NL west it would seem.
  20. in 2013 Profar was the number 1 prospect according to baseball America and Bryant was the number 8 prospect in 2014, so I would say yes. The fact that some prospects excel where others do not has to do with injuries, natural development and the combination of the two. Even the elite level prospect is not always a sure thing. That's what makes baseball so great.
  21. I think the Jays are in a pretty good position. This year they can compete, but we are developing Sanchez, stroman, Norris and Hutch to figure out what they will be this year. We have controllable cheap players relatively speaking in Pompey, Donaldson, Saunders and eventually Travis whether that be this year or next. We have Hoffman and Osuna in the pipeline to supplement the other young pitchers if they should struggle. We have 20 mil coming off the books in Buehrle, 5 mil in Navarro, 2 mil from Izturis, 11 mil potentially in Dickey. We have our long term catcher locked up and Bautista and EE at reasonable cost for next year with Reyes in the fold as well. At the end of this year we have 38 mil coming off the books in a free agency year that will feature a lot of strong rotation arms. We can potentially go free agency to get a number 2 starter or even a number 1 and still have money available to address depth at the end of the year giving a rotation of new signing stroman, hutch and 2 of Hoffman, Sanchez, Norris, Osuna and the option to bring Dickey back at a reasonable cost if he pitches well this year or if they feel some of the young guys need more time in the minors. We have reduced payroll instead of increasing it and that is giving us some flexibility next year and at this year's deadline.
  22. yeah, Valencia should probably play against lefties. Navarro just provides insurance for smoak who couldn't hit right handers either last year. We should probably trade Navarro..lol.
