  1. I didn't even say I thought the return would be better or worse in the off season and I certainly get the injury risk. I just go back to the trade deadline thread a couple weeks ago where some posters said if we don't get great offers we can just hold on to him. I said, we're going to take the best offer available regardless of how good it is. I also said the return would be crap. Given the trade ideas people were floating we got far less than what some people thought we would or were hoping we would. The shatkins fan club is now trying to talk about what a fantastic deal this is...lol
  2. what do you like best about him
  3. Is it better than what they would have gotten in the off season dealing with more teams? That's up for debate.
  4. ooh...a shatkins poster.....sexy!
  5. Do you have a poster or Ross in your room?
  6. maybe that's what he did, but maybe stro follows rosenthal on twitter and found out it was the mets..lol News travels fast.
  7. its not an Atkins problem if we're not taking about a 3.5+ win pitcher....Stro isn't an ace, but he's a quality starter that could help a team contend. We're in desperate need of starting pitching and our young controllable position players are coming together a lot faster than the pitching. The position players are going to be ready to contend a couple years before the pitching will.
  8. Revenge of the Nerds part 4....we'll get em in 2024.
  9. As a GM you manage players personalities. Some are easy as pie, others are like pulling teeth out. It's pretty clear that Marcus stroman is a baby, so why go through arbitration twice over a few hundred thousand dollars. Some have the ability to smooth things out after highly contested events like this, others get kicked out of the f***ing room and they are suppose to be the boss. Say what you want about Atkins, but he doesn't scream most charismatic guy in the room.
  10. he's a top 100 starting pitcher...there you happy.
  11. How can you say an extension was never going to happen? The guy literally had the toronto skyline tattooed on his body. If you can't maintain relations and get a player who likes the city well enough to tattoo it on his body, then what does that say about you as a GM. They didn't want to extend him. That's their prerogative as management, but quit with the it was never going to happen crap. They definitely could have extended him if they did things differently and wanted to.
  12. no I am expecting this type of information leaked just like everything else is leaked. We offered Edwin 4 and 80. At the time we knew he wasn't going to accept that, but the information got out.
  13. that's fine, but my post was in response to others who suggest he never would have signed here. I don't think that was the case.
  14. and you know stroman..lol
  15. like I said, all they had to do was offer 5 and 75 and have Stroman reject it and the optics look much better. Why didn't they do this?
  16. There's a difference between a rebuild of a rich team, a mid tier market and a poor market. Gurriel development has been an unexpected win. We have Gurriel, Biggio, Gurrerro and now Bichette here today. If you believe in yourself and the money you gave Grichuk, you have to assume Grichuk will bounce back to be at least a 2 win player next year. Pearson will be here mid next year. With a crap load of money to spend and Pearson and Stroman at the top of your rotation with the young cheap position players you would have be a ultra conservative risk adverse guy to not see a path to contention in 202. Pushing it off to 2023 like you're the tampa bay rays and can't afford any miss steps is chicken little convinced the sky is falling in.
  17. Stroman did nothing but talk about how much he enjoyed his time in Toronto and would gladly explore an extension. As a GM you typically want to cultivate relationships with your stars, not alienate them. There's no reason why stroman would not have signed an extension if we would have maintained a relationship. Did our GM come out and put a 5 year 70 or 80 mil offer on the table for him to reject? No. If they had at least made the offer, they would have a greater leg to stand on in terms of trading for a back end rotation guy and higher risk prospect with upside that is 3 years away.
  18. So I'm not missing anything. It's going to suck.
  19. Why do you hate a guy with the exact same personality as yourself..lol.
  20. the problem with atkins is he's dealing with a bunch of guys who were the bullies....and he's still a beta bitch getting bent over by veteran GMs who he is just hoping pick up his calls...
  21. at this point, why don't the mets just stand pat and make a run with a rotation of Degrom Sydergaard and Stroman next year. They have 2 more years beyond this year of control for Sydergaard...there's not rush to trade the guy.
  22. whatever, as i said, I've been drinking....the poster I originally responded to said Ace....this trade f***ing sux....we could have had stroman and pearson as early as mid next year for the next several years and still had a crap ton of money to spend to add around that. Now we have a lone wolf in pearson waiting for the prospects to join him in 21, 22, 23 or 24.....You ask Vlad, Bo, Lourdes and Cavan what they think of this s*** show trade.
  23. well i have been drinking so there's that, but what's the rotation in 2021 or 2022 that will lead us to the playoffs.
  24. why are you taking a best case scenario and a pitcher that has one more year of develop and information on and drawing the comparison? Vlad is 20 years old. He had much higher pedigree in terms of his perceived value as a baseball player on the position side at the same age...he's 20 now. Did he put up a 6 win season. The idea that this kid is going to be at the majors and pitching like an ace at 20 is ridiculous. Yes there is an extremely low percentage that it could happen, but to throw it out there like it's reasonable probably is dumn.
  25. so he's going to be ready to be an ace at age 20 in 2021. Ok the koolaid has been mixed with some very strong moonshine.
