Spanky lives for baseball. The guy dreams about baseball. He wakes up and is like where's the corn field and what the f*** happened to Shoeless Joe. That's how much Spanky loves baseball. He actually watches the games, and likely played pretty competitive ball himself. He's very well versed on all the happenings in Major League Baseball.
As far as Sanchez goes, I've commented numerous times watching him that his curve ball looks better this year than it's ever looked before. However, his fastball is hot garbage. There's less movement, significantly less velocity with zero command.
In order for Sanchez to be a game changer for the Astro's he's basically got to be a top 3 rotational arm. The Stros are a lock for the division so the regular season doesn't matter. Who are you getting rid of? Verlander, Cole or Greinke? I highly doubt Sanchez would take Miley's spot, and you're talking about a guy who most likely gets one post season start limited to 4 or 5 innings. I don't think I would call this spot a game changer.
Sanchez for the Astro's is a guy who can transition to the bullpen for the post season. With max effort maybe his velocity on the fastball ticks up and he can use the curve ball a lot more. He can be a middle innings guy who could provide some value.
Sanchez needs to fix his fastball. That likely starts in the gym in the off season working on his strength and working on some mechanical adjustments. It's not out of the realm of possibility that he could turn things around next year as a starter, but the odds are not great. Sanchez only had one year of control so I understand moving him, I just would have rather targeted more pitching.
I'm all for bold opinions that go against the popular opinion, but this board if full of some of the most knowledgeable baseball nerds in Canada so be prepared the the backlash. I think you're out to lunch on this one, and I actually like Sanchez.
