If they finish top 2 in ROY voting they receive a full year service time, no matter when they were called up. If they start the year with the team and finish top 3 in ROY voting the team gets a bonus draft pick.
Service time manipulation isn’t really a thing anymore with the new rules in place. Better to call them up right away if you think they’re going to be good.
Bibee earned a full year because he placed 2nd in ROY voting. And if Cleveland would have called him up right away they would have received a draft pick.
And Kirk. And Manoah. The FO is aggressive with prospects if they playing good and look ready. They sent Tiedemann to the AFL to get some more innings.Theres a good chance he starts the year with the team or gets called up early I think.
If Jays signed Ohtani I'd be alright with them cheaping out at the other postions.
A combo of Schneider, Horwitz, Biggio, Palmegiani, Barger, Orelvis at 2B/3B/LF. Plus all the others Lukes, Clement, etc.
Exactly, Bluejays don't seem to have trouble landing free agents. Gausman was the #1 pitcher in his class. Springer was ranked #3 overall behind Realmuto and Bauer. We got Bassitt, Belt, and KK last offseason.
I think it would effect the bottom line somewhere on some spreadsheet within the Rogers Company. Which is why I wonder if there'd be some extra funds available for Ohtani and only Ohtani. So if we didn't sign him Atkin's wouldn't be able to use that money for a different signing.
I don’t think turf is actually an issue anymore. Maybe if it was some slummy field. I think we soon see a time where artificial turf fields are even better than real grass.
If the rumour is true I think it would mean we potentially have the payroll space to bring Ohtani on. Wonder if they’d be willing to break the bank for marketing reasons. Wonder what kind of boost it would give Sportsnet.
I could see us signing Hoskins to a 1 year deal to play DH/1B. Didn’t get a QO, and might want a 1 year deal to increase his value and test the market again next year.
