  1. If you had to choose one of these 3 to keep in a 20-team dynasty league: Kirby Yates Liam Hendriks Matt Strahm
  2. Why did we get rid of it?
  3. Nobody is saying he would move the needle, but would be a nice second option behind the plate and you might be able to squeeze 1 WAR out of him for $2-3M. Plus, he's a switch hitter, which is nice to have off the bench.
  4. Last season Grandal got 215 AB's in 72 games with the Pirates. Think he got some time on the IL, but even when he got back, with the emergence of Joey Bart, he was still kind of in a part-time role. I think he would sign somewhere to catch 30-40% of the time, and get his 250-300 or so AB's. Like some others have said, he likely doesn't sign anywhere as a starter, unless a team loses their No. 1 catcher to injury. As for Kirk, can he catch 130-140 games per season? I think it's a good idea to have a reliable partner with him in order to keep him fresh. Having Kirk start 110-120 games behind the plate seems more reasonable. Plus, bringing in Grandal allows you to use Kirk at DH, let's say if his bat reverts back to his 2022 form.
  5. Santander you hope is good for 35-40 HR's. Same with Vladdy in his contract year. Bo is capable of hitting between 20-25 HR's over a full season.. A healthy Varsho should be able to hit 20-25 HR's, though there is always the potential for more if he gets locked in. 20+ HR's from Springer would be nice as well. The rest of the lineup: Gimenez, Kirk, Clement, Wagner - those guys might hit between 10-15 HR's each in a perfect world. Another power bat would have been ideal, but oh well.
  6. Yeah, we were saying the same thing when Pivetta signed last week. Atkins would have needed a crystal ball. Unloading Bassitt in mid-November when the FA market for mid-rotation veteran starters was insane, would have freed up $21M. Could have been replaced with Quintana or Lynn at $5-8M on a one-year deal + over $12M in savings + an asset acquired in trade which would have been nice haha. Or having Pivetta at $13.75M AAV. But yeah not much you can do. The other side to it is if the Jays traded Bassitt, failed to sign a starter like Scherzer and if a lot of these vet SP's were scooped up earlier, would have left a big hole in the rotation.
  7. Yeah kinda of puzzled how Turner got $6M from the Cubs, but read supposedly they view him as 1B and 3B depth, so they plan on playing him a bit in the field. Also, likely for playoff experience and veteran presence lol. Would love JDM at DH, but I still see him costing around $8-10M like you said. Would like to see if he has one more good season left in the tank.
  8. I would have kept Berrios in given that he was dealing throughout the first three innings. Would have kept him in until he showed signs of fatigue or breaking down. The Jays signed him to a huge contract extension worth $131M, so you would think they would have trust in him pitching more than 3 innings in a WC elimination game. On the other hand, the strategy didn't really hurt them since they still only lost 2-0. At the end of the day, the bats were non-existent during that game and that series. Not sure the impact the early hook on Berrios had on the team morale amongst the players though. I recall several players were surprised as well.
  9. I get to wear my Ryan Yarbrough jersey again!
  10. Still a lot of solid #4-5 starters available like Quintana, Lynn, Gibson, Turnbull. Heck, I'm sure you can sign each guy for around $5M + incentives on a one-year deal now. Turnbull might even sign a $1-2M deal somewhere haha. Jays rotation is good now though 1 through 5 if its healthy.
  11. Drew Smyly is still available. Would be a nice MiLB pickup for some depth. A southpaw who could start or pitch out of the pen. Looks like a guy though that outperforms his FIP.
  12. Happy for him! Definitely nice to see!
  13. Some interesting names still on the FA market. Wonder if the Jays pick up someone. Grandal as a backup C would be nice. Astros just signed Rodgers to a MiLB deal. If you can sign JD Davis to a MiLB deal, why not.
  14. Should also consider the domino effect this whole Vladdy situation has. Like what would a top FA think of the way this FO handled the Vladdy situation? Would they want to sign here knowing the way this FO operates? Like there is nothing wrong in not being able to work out a deal with Vladdy. That's fine. Though then you need to look at what trade options are available if you know Vladdy isn't signing an extension. You can't just stand pat and stay in limbo, which is something this FO loves to do for some reason. Ken Rosenthal is right. At the end of the day, when it comes to big FA's or even trying to work out an extension for your star, you have to figure out eventually how to seal the deal. Something this FO has done poorly with.
  15. Not chastising the FO for not giving Vlad insane money. Instead, criticizing the timing of everything and that the Vlad situation should have been dealt with earlier. If Vlad's demands were insane at the beginning of November and the Jays couldn't negotiate a deal with him, then look to trade him,
  16. I'm okay if they don't sign Vlad to an extension, but it would have been nice not to drag it all the way to Spring Training. Instead they should have dealt with the Vlad situation earlier in the offseason. Seems like this FO was way too passive and likely missed the boat in trading Vlad for a solid package that could have helped this team in the longer term.
  17. Your second point: I think the Vlad situation definitely should have been resolved early in the offseason instead of being dragged out all the way to Spring Training. First off, a Vlad extension earlier in the offseason would have set a direction for this team and might have helped lure other top FA's who the Jays were in on. Secondly, if an extension couldn't be reached with Vladdy, then Atkins could have explored some trade options and the Jays might have been able to get a solid package in return, similar to what the Padres got for Soto last offseason. Instead, now Atkins/Shapiro are pretty much stuck in limbo with Vlad. It's likely too late now to trade him, unless it's at the trade deadline and with Vladdy being a two-month rental, you won't be getting as much. I still think the Jays could win with or without Vladdy, but it would have been nice to have that clarity earlier in the offseason and plan accordingly. Now, we might see Vlad walk at the end of the season and receive nothing of value in return.
  18. According to my sources, Vladdy, his agent, Atkins, and Shapiro are in Vegas.
  19. Kirk ain't getting $20-25M per season lol. Maybe $10-12M max.
  20. Yeah David Ortiz kept raking and hitting at an elite level even right until his last season in 2016 at the age of 40. His only down season was in 2009. Contracts were different at that time as well, but yeah he never got a super large contract like other players at the time e.g. A-Rod, Alfonso Soriano, Vernon Wells etc. Most term he got was 4 years/$52M from 2008-2011 and then moving forward just kept signing short term deals for one or two years max. Different in comparison to Vladdy since Ortiz has his breakout at the age of 27 in 2003 and still had I believe one or two years of arbitration/control still left. Crazy that Minnesota non-tendered him after the 2002 season and refused to give him the $1.2M which he got as a FA from Boston.
  21. I would save it all up for Gunnar Henderson in 2029. The Jays were finalists for Ohtani and Soto (from what we were told) so Vladdy knows the Jays have money to spend and he's going to try to get every penny he could squeeze from Rogers. You can't blame him. We saw the market crater for Alonso this offseason and heck even Bregman, so you gotta ask yourself do you really want to be paying $40+M per season for Vladdy, especially when he's in his 30's? He's a 1B/DH type of bat. Unless he hits like David Ortiz into his 30's, you really don't want to be given him a long term deal of 10+ years. The time to trade Vladdy was earlier in the offseason, especially after Soto signed, when the market was really hot. I just hope they don't let him walk for nothing.
  22. AL East is definitely going to be tougher. Give the Jays still a solid B+ offseason. Would have been epic if they could have lured one more big FA bat like Alonso or Bregman, but that's alright. Would be nice to re-sign Vladdy to an extension if both can reach a reasonable figure before ST. Locking up Vladdy as well might help lure future FA's in upcoming years as well.
