The Eastern Conference isn't as strong as the West. Outside of Boston and Cleveland right now, and maybe the Knicks, there aren't any other dominant or scary teams. The Raptors could likely hold their own in a series against the Pacers, Pistons or Magic let's say. Raptors under Lowry/DeRozan were always a 4th/5th place team pretty much who some seasons got lucky and finished 2nd/3rd and were 1-2 pieces away (which ended up being Leonard/Green and then trading for Gasol at the trade deadline that season). Thinking Masai wants to do the same by keeping the Raps relevant where they win 48-50 or so games per season and maybe win a Playoff Round or two. Then make a bold move/trade and try to go for it if a deal is there (like the Leonard/DeRozan trade). Plus, having the Raptors relevant is at least better for ticket sales and TV viewership and attracting FA's. Tanking in the NBA doesn't always work and it could be a lengthy timeline like almost a decade. Look at the Wizards, Pistons and some other teams.
  2. Would be nice if Varsho could exceed some expectations with the bat and if Kirk returned to his 2022 form offensively. Heck would even take Varsho's 2022 season offensively if he hits close to 30 HR's with a .450 SLG!
  3. Would definitely be a fun place for a MLB baseball team. Nashville is one of the coolest if not coolest cities in the US.
  4. Yeah signing a power bat who could DH or come off the bench like JDM or Rizzo or Canha for under $5M + incentives might not be that bad. Sure some other guys likely will settle for MiLB deals like Ty France, Joey Gallo, Adam Duvall, Patrick Wisdom, and Eddie Rosario. If you can sign McCann as a backup C or Grandal close to $2-3M also could be worth exploring. Last offseason the Jays brought in Volgelbach and Votto lol, so could see Atkins doing something similar again when it comes to bargain bin FA hunting. Still a lot of veteran relievers available as well. Would be nice to roll the dice on someone like Jansen, Robertson, Kelly, Raley, Jackson, Sims, McGough or Junis if they came cheap. I've always been a Junis fan and would be a nice arm to have who can pitch multiple innings out of the pen, and who could start at anytime. Would be really nice depth!
  5. Yeah $5M is definitely a solid gamble. Earlier this offseason, I saw like around $10M being floated around for him.
  6. Looks more likely Clement will be the starting 3B heading into ST if the Jays don't sign Bregman and since Moncada signed with the Angels today. Jays might still be able to turn to the trade market for a bat like Luis Roberts or sign a DH like JDM. We'll see what happens.
  7. Haha I don't have any high picks this year 😅
  8. What do most posters on here prefer: Baseball America or Baseball Prospectus?
  9. Shawn Green was my favourite ballplayer when I started to watch baseball as a kid. He had some monster years here in Toronto!
  10. Spotted Atkins and Vladdy walking out of REIGN Ladies' & Gentlemen's Nightclub in Clearwater this afternoon. Vladdy looked happy!
  11. So in essence you're saying the Jays only option to add was through free agency and spending money? Hmmm. How about trades?

They definitely need to move RJ when the time comes to go on a run. Don't think he can be a main piece you can build around. Need to make a DeRozan/Leonard type trade again haha. As much as I like him, you're not winning a Championship with him as one of your "key" guys. Not good enough defensively and expensive for just a volume scorer. Quickley isn't anything special. Borderline starter/6th man who has been injured most of the season. Barnes definitely, but yeah he's not your first or second scoring option on a Championship caliber team. He's more of a second piece. So would be nice to acquire another super star who you can play with him. Poeltl is reasonable for the next two seasons, but yeah not sure if he could be this efficient again. Still a valuable piece to have on a Playoff team.

Endless fun indeed haha. Never going to have this opportunity again in any sport! He's made some improvements from last season which is encouraging. He's still young so definitely more room to grow and improve. So far this season averaging 15.7 PPG, 3.3 REB, 2.0 AST, 41.9 FG%, and 34.9 3P%. If he could end up being a 18-20PPG guy, get a little more physical and pad his REB stats where he is averaging around 5-6 per game, and shoot mid-to-high 40's in FG% and get his 3P% around 40 or higher, then he definitely can be a solid cornerstone in a 5-man rotation. Still room for that to happen in the next couple of years. If not, worst case then he's a solid role-player to have like you said, who can come off the bench as a 6th man.
  14. He went on that podcast last summer saying he was upset how this team never had a "pivot" to Ohtani last offseason and kind of hinted that himself and other veteran Blue Jays felt that way. Atkins didn't get Soto, Burnes, or Sasaki, but at least their pivot was Santander, Scherzer and Hoffman as free agents thus far, and they traded for Gimenez. I'm sure Bassitt and other players definitely feel better about this team heading into the 2025 season than they did a month ago or last March/April. This was a much better offseason than last!

February 6th. Poetl is under control for two more seasons after this one at $19.5M AAV. Having a career year so would be trading him at his highest value.

They finally healthy now. I thought before the season they were good enough for a play-in, though they never had a healthy rotation. Guys like Barnes, Barrett, Quickley all missed time at some points. Figured they dug themselves in a deep hole so they would focus on the lottery. But yeah these last two weeks, things look different now.
