  1. Yeah both Romano and Abreu were very close in terms of value they provided in 2022. Romano has more experience in the later innings and closing, whereas Abreu has mainly been used in the 6th/7th inning this past season. Though Abreu's FIP and K-BBs are elite. Abreu has cheaper arb projections since he hasn't racked up that many saves or holds. Romano and Abreu overall are pretty even like you said in terms of value. Adding Abreu to this bullpen would drastically improve it. Him and Romano in the late innings would be an awesome duo.
  2. You should know very well that ERA isn't the only indicator you judge a pitcher on. He had a down year in 2022 yes, though still put up solid numbers across the board. His K numbers and FIP numbers are still very elite. He would have been the Jays second most valuable reliever this season behind Romano. If he puts up similar numbers to his 2021 season which I think is a reasonable expectation, he's a huge upgrade to this bullpen overall.
  3. Lmao you keep propping up Conforto who you own in some leagues as well
  4. He's been one of the best relievers in baseball since 2018.
  5. 2018: 2.33 FIP, 9.88 K/9, 1.8 WAR 2019: 2.85 FIP, 11.74 K/9, 2.1 WAR 2021: 2.13 FIP, 13.17 K/9, 1.5 WAR 2022: 3.32 FIP, 11.75 K/9, 1.0 WAR He's been one of the best relievers in baseball since 2018.
  6. He did stink before, though he's found new life as a reliever. This season: 1.98 ERA, 2.98 FIP, 10.09 K/9, 1.3 WAR, 5 saves, 14 holds His BB rate is a little high though if he improves in that area, he definitely can be even better. Would love to see the Jays work with him. Definitely would be nice to have him and Mayza as the two lefties down in the pen. Probably won't cost as much as a Rogers, so he's not a bad Plan B option.
  7. Stripling can't even pitch more than 5 innings per outing because he can't pitch three times through an order. I think the Jays could use that $20M much more efficiently on another arm + other pieces. Strip was awesome this season, though expect some regression in 2023 a bit. He's not worth $20M regardless. There are so many other SPs available via free agency and trade who likely won't cost as much.
  8. Yeah would rather pay Carlos Rodon $25M-30M over Stripling at $18-19M. Jays would be foolish to qualify Chicken Strip.
  9. Don't qualify Stripling. If he accepts, he gets $18-19M which is a bit excessive for a starting pitcher who only lasts 5 innings and can pitch only twice through a lineup. So many other quality starters available during free agency. I'm sure the Jays can nab one or two at a decent price. A lot of other LHB's available who can DH and play an outfield spot as well like Michael Brantley, Andrew Benintendi, Joc Pederson, Brandon Nimmo, Joey Gallo. Conforto can be an option for sure, depending on the price, though a lot of options available. Jays should at least sign one of those guys above. Would love to see Carroll and Jameson.
  10. Diaz would cost a ton and I'm not sure the Jays will blow their entire load on him this offseason. How much do you think he gets? I'm all for it and would rather spend money on an elite reliever than trade assets for Bednar, though I think signing Rogers is more realistic for the Blue Jays in terms of team needs and cost. Romano hasn't done anything to lose the closers role IMO.
  11. Yeah of course. Moore isn't a bad Plan B if the Jays can't sign Rogers and wouldn't be as expensive which is a plus.
  12. Joe Mantiply is interesting as a lefty reliever. Which SPs did you have in mind? I don't think they trade Kelly and if they did, likely would ask a lot because of his team friendly contract. I like Stone Garrett.
  13. Jansen + Biggio for Urquidy + Abreu Not sure they would accept that though.
  14. Yeah I don't think so either. Prefer to have him paired with a back-end SP like Urquidy.
  15. If you were the GM of the Jays and the Astros agreed to send Abreu for Jansen, would you pull the trigger? Curious. It's a tough one.
  16. Yeah I would worry Abreu turns into a Sergio Santos which is definitely possible. I'm perfectly fine with acquiring him, though he would have to be paired with one their SPs like Urquidy. Though if the Astros value Abreu pretty high which I bet they do and probably value him even higher than Urquidy, likely doesn't happen even if it's a 1 for 1 swap.
  17. I would definitely be happy if that was the return but yeah you make a good point about the Astros being hesitant on moving Abreu. He's only 25 and likely will move up the bullpen pecking order since their other top BP arms are all over 30. They probably value him more than Urquidy.
  18. Rotation: Gausman Manoah Berrios Urquidy Free agent (one of Kyle Gibson, Corey Kluber, Jose Quintana, Ross Stripling, Andrew Heaney, Chris Bassitt) That's a solid rotation if the Jays can add one of those FA starters along with guys like White/Kikuchi/Tiedemann as depth. Bullpen: Jordan Romano Taylor Rogers (sign as a FA) Bryan Abreu Anthony Bass Yimi Garcia Tim Mayza Adam Cimber Nate Pearson etc. That bullpen is vastly improved with Abreu and if the Jays signed Rogers. Two high K arms who both can post 1.5-2 WAR seasons. Overall, these moves won't break the bank and greatly improve the roster. Kirk/Moreno are fine as a catching tandem and I'm sure the Jays could go after a left-handed bat who could DH and play OF occasionally (one of Michael Brantley, Cody Bellinger, Joc Pederson, Andrew Benintendi, or Joey Gallo would be nice adds).
  19. Would prefer Christian Javier or Framber Valdez over Urquidy though doubt the Astros move them for Jansen. If Jansen stays healthy, he can definitely put together a 4 WAR season so I understand your reasoning. You gotta hope Urquidy takes a step forward and becomes a 2-3 WAR pitcher. If you get a high end young reliever with some control like Bryan Abreu, I think you have to consider it.
  20. Rogers would be a perfect fit IMO. Has closing experience and can be used as a bridge to Romano. Last two seasons he posted a 13.17 and 11.75 K/9. I actually like him better than Matt Moore given his lower BB/9 and experience. He would be a huge upgrade over Mayza and in the late innings. Mayza, Bass, Garcia, Cimber etc, can all be pushed down the pecking order which is fine. Plus if one of Pearson or Merryweather emerge into an elite setup guy with high K rates, this bullpen will be fine!
  21. You said it perfect! Same applies to the bench!
  22. Mayza as a second lefty down in the pen is fine, though I don't want him pitching in critical situations next season. Jays need a Brett Cecil type lefty down there.
  23. Urquidy and Abreu would be nice.
  24. Taylor Rogers would be a really nice addition. Bring his brother Tyler as well haha. Having the Rogers twins would be awesome. Great marketing!
  25. Replacing Mayza (who wasn't that good this season to begin with) with someone like Matt Moore would be a nice upgrade.
