Power wise, there is a huge difference. As well, we're talking about 8 months of subpar performance dating back from last July.

Most of his 2022 season offensively was driven by a very hot May and June. Otherwise, he didn't do much those other four months power wise. Agree with you that he is a better defender than Jansen. Kirk can still be a solid regular and piece on this team. I'll take a 3 WAR player who can hit .250/.370/.400 with 10-15 HR's and great defense behind the plate everyday. I do think he was overhyped on here however. Hope he could find some of his power stroke back and gets in better shape for 2024 and I think he'll be fine.

Yeah it's tough not to like Varsho even despite his struggles earlier on this season. Glad he's turned things around offensively at least and looking forward to seeing him in CF full time next season. Hopefully the Jays could get a 4-5 WAR season or two out of him in 2024 and 2025. We don't know if Arizona valued Kirk or Moreno more in a trade, but yeah right now would prefer to have Moreno moving forward given his age, control and athleticism. 2024 will be a make or break it season for Kirk - he either gets into better shape and returns to his 2022 form offensively where he becomes a .280/.370/.430 type of bat with 10-15 HR's or he's just a slap hitting catcher who gives you .240/.330/.330 with 5-10 HR's per season.

Yeah hopefully Bo isn't out for too long. That's why it was a good idea still to keep DeJong around despite his struggles, but not going to lose sleep over it. I would like to see them roll with Clement as well. Espinal could be used sparingly or as a late inning defensive replacement.

Given the Jays are fighting for a Wildcard spot and given the offensive struggles as a whole this year, Espinal should never again be in the starting lineup. This team needs to roll with the hot bats. Dave Schneider should be in the lineup everyday, no excuses.

Yeah he still has loads of potential and definitely has the opportunity to take his game to the next level. I don't want to start an argument by talking about that Jays/D'Backs trade for the 1000th time on here knowing the Atkins Homer brigade will be looking to attack. Though while still early, given the results so far this season, looks like the Jays might have traded away the wrong catcher. But like I've said numerous times, given the Jays timeline and the season Kirk was coming off of, was tough to trade him and roll with an inexperienced guy like Moreno, plus we don't know who the D'Backs preferred anyways.

There is no need to trade Gausman. Jays will never find a better starting pitcher at that price. I don't think we should totally write off 2024 or 2025 just yet at all. -
Schneider should have been playing everyday once he was called up. Glad they're finally playing him everyday now. Gotta keep those hot bats in the lineup!

So what happens for next season? Does Atkins make adjustments and shake things up or does he keep the status quo? He also has to find 4 new starters (2B, 3B, LF and DH) for the lineup. Yup a lot of players underachieved this season. It's not all Atkins' fault obviously but he'll take some of the blame if this team misses the Postseason.

Yeah I was even saying this two months ago about this easy part of the schedule. Some of these teams aren't duds and you can't just assume the Jays, under pressure right now, to completely dominate these teams. I hated the excuses some posters were using in June that the Jays haven't had an easy schedule yet and that "oh there is nothing to worry about since they have the easiest schedule down the stretch." The Jays better f*%king step up or else they pissed away their season. -

Fundamentals is the key word here. This isn't just a 2-3 month thing. It's been the entire season. Even last season as well. This team with this star talent have underachieved greatly and if they do miss the Postseason, some serious changes need to be made starting with the coaching staff and some key roster pieces. Atkins can't keep the status quo again for 2024. If the Jays miss the Postseason in 2023, that's 2 of 3 seasons with a roster that was supposed to be World Series contenders. Some serious questions need to be asked and some serious decisions need to be made.

He won't coast. He'll be a free agent at 30 and will still be able to land a huge deal at that age if he's playing at an elite level.
