I find it ironic that Kirk at 25 still has upside according to some on here, but Moreno who is younger is deemed a "limp noodle bat." Why doesn't Moreno have upside but Kirk still does? If we're talking about catchers with a "limp noodle bat," I think Kirk fits that description perfectly haha. If Varsho can return to being a 3-4 WAR player over the next three years, I won't have an issue with the trade. It all depends on what Varsho does in 2024, 2025 and 2026. But yeah at his age of 27, Varsho could improve, still has upside and be so much better, but Moreno at age 23 is what he is.

I think most posters on here even preferred to trade/shop Jansen first before Kirk and Moreno because he was older, injury prone and had less years of control. Kirk was overhyped on this board by many and still is. Teams were concerned with his conditioning and his huge second half slump in 2022. Even the Jays preferred moving Kirk over Moreno if they had the choice according to Sorrow. Regardless, looks like the value of all three catchers on the trade market weren't what we thought according to Sorrow's intel. A lot of teams had concerns regarding all three.

I like the Tigers pitching and they have some good young bats as well. Skubal is my pick for the AL Cy Young next season and the Detroit Tigers win the AL Central.

If the Jays signed Ohtani, they would have to target alternatives to cover up other holes/areas on the roster rather signing some of the top options available at 3B, LF or DH or look to the trade market. For example, you probably can't target a top FA third baseman like Chapman or Candelario. Instead you have to target maybe someone like Eduardo Escobar or trade for someone like Yoan Moncada (with White Sox eating most of his salary). Depending on where the Jays play Ohtani (DH or left field), you probably don't target bats like Hoskins, Soler, Teo Hernandez or JD Martinez afterwards. Instead maybe you go after someone like Gallo, Brantley, or Heyward who you could platoon with someone or bring back KK or Belt. If Rogers gives Atkins the green light to spend and go all in with Ohtani, then yeah trade for Soto as well why not haha. Bring in some other top FA's to build around Ohtani as well. But I'm sure Atkins won't have an unlimited payroll so they would have to bargain hunt in other areas. Would the Jays be better off heading into 2024 with Ohtani, a lesser corner OF/DH bat like Gallo, Brantley or Heyward and 3B bat like Moncada or better with signing some FA's like Hoskins, Soler and Candelario? From a baseball perspective and a marketing perspective.

I own Cavan Biggio in one of my dynasty leagues and he has multi-position eligibility so hope he has a breakout in 2024!

Yeah Ohtani from a business perspective pays much better dividends than signing 3 random solid players (e.g. Hoskins, Teo Hernandez, Chapman etc.).

Where did I once not give Ross Atkins any credit for the successful moves that he made? Please go back and read my posts. There was a bit of luck involved in the KK and Belt signings. They were both coming off injury plagued seasons. Low risk/high reward type of signings who panned out. Have nothing against signing both of those players at the time, even if one or both never worked out. I bet for example if Atkins decided to sign my favourite player Austin Meadows as a low risk/high reward signing and he comes close to repeating his monster 2019 season, you would be claiming Atkins was a genius lol. As for the Ryu, Springer and Gausman signings, the Blue Jays offered the most years and money which is why they all signed here. Ryu was 33 when he signed here and no other team was offering him a 4 year contract at $80M especially when he had durability issues. It's not rocket science. Brownie was making it sound like Atkins was the first GM who was able to lure any big FA's to Toronto haha.

Atkins has made solid moves and signings for sure during his tenure here. Never said he didn't. Blue Jays traded for Robbie Ray correct? Not sign him as a FA? But regardless excellent pickup on an arm who had previous success a couple years earlier. Always was a Robbie Ray fan during his days in Arizona. Nobody is arguing about Semien obviously. KK and Belt were questionable given their age and injury track record, but they turned out great and stayed healthy. Both could have went the other way and flopped, which some don't realize. Kikuchi looks good if he could prove his 2023 wasn't a fluke and do it again next season. Nobody is arguing about the deals he didn't make. Definitely not caving into signing Jose Bautista to a 5 year $125M contract extension after 2016. Not extending Vlad to a big money extension looks like the right move now for sure. Would be interesting to see which posters on here wanted Bautista and/or Vladdy signed to crazy extensions. I remember some of the numbers being floated around with Vlad even after his 2022 season and it was crazy. Atkins has been really solid here during his tenure in Toronto overall. Could he do better? Of course. I wouldn't put him that high on a pedestal yet however as some other shills on here already do.

Votto is still my No. 1 choice since he's Canadian, a former MVP and would sell a lot of Blue Jays jerseys. Rogers could definitely market him better and since we all care about how Shapiro operates the team from a business perspective and prints money, Votto is easily the guy. Josh Donaldson would be a close second IMO, and you know I'm a big Austin Meadows fan.

Yeah and it was after his monster 2009 season as well. He was awful from 2010-2012, but was solid in 2013 and 2014 when strictly used in a platoon against RHP only. AA turned him into Estrada who from 2015-2017 was a reliable arm in the rotation.

I've mentioned his name a couple of week ago. He would be a perfect fit in this lineup if the Cardinals were selling. Only one-year left at $25M I think, so no long term risk at all and wouldn't cost as much as someone like Juan Soto.
