    Hes also kind of a 1 trick pony with his curveball being his only plus pitch. His sinker and slider are pretty bad

    No mention of an injury anywhere, still active in the roster... my guess/hope would be just a skipped start for load management. Only 45 IP in 2024 before beind shut down in August and then missing all of 2025 for TJ recovery. Hes at 54.2 already in 2026.

    Granted, but teams arent moving many top 100 prospects for expiring contracts anymore. Last years deadline saw only 3 top 100 guys moved and all 3 were in deals for closers, one of whom had 4+ years of control left and the other 2+. Miller and Duran. Not saying its impossible, just... increasingly unlikely these days

    How can you possibly think FIFA is corrupt? It's not like any heads of state can just make a phone call and have red cards and suspensions lifted...

    Yes. Which is why limiting the # of deferrals and % of deferral could actually help smaller market teams IF they wanted to continue with deferals. Of course the Pirates could never defer 98% of Ohtani's net present contract value or whatever # they came up with, but they could probably defer 50% of it. Just an example. Nutting is such an ******* he will never do anything to keep real superstars.

    Which is weird because deferrals were meant to help the smaller markets retain tehir stars, they just never bothered to take advantage. I think keeping deferrals is fine, just limit the number of deferred contracts per team (say...2?), and then limit the annual % that can be deferred to something reasonable. That way it keeps larger market teams from just deferring half their roster and keeps more top-end free agents in play for all teams, which is something the PA should definitely want. That said, i'm intrigued as to to how the MLB version of Bird Rights would work. If it exempts a % of contrcat value from the luxury tax? Make the home team the only one able to offer significantly more years and dollars? Some combo of the 2? Lets face it, being able to offer 1 more year and 20 million more isnt going to keep guys from fleeing Crapsburgh for LA.

    Expiring contracts: Springer, Scherzer, Gausman, Varsho, Bieber, Yimi. I wont bother breaking down how much savings there could be since keeping salary would probably happen on a couple of those if they even had takers. Yimi is hurt so I dont think he can even be traded. Scherzer pitched in Vancouver recently so he's nearing a return. The other 4... yeah we might land something intriguing but i dont see any top 100 prospects in that lot. Probably more like we've seen before, multiple guys like Will Wagner, Bloss... guys who are close to the majors and have a certain skillset they think they can work with along with add-ins way down the org charts.

    True. I guess my brain doesnt link players based on how they were acquired but rather how they look and what their stuff is like. Nothing to really get into though, others do. Miles is intriguing because you can see the raw stuff is pretty good with all 4 pitches and his location is above average. He lacks the swing and miss aspect but hes throwns a ton of ground balls and doesn't get barreled. Maybe a tweak or two or adding a change or split might help that swing and miss a bit.

    Ive now watched the highlights from this game 3 times just to fake-convince myself the Jays are on a 3 game winning streak.

    Eliminating deferrals is a weird ask, but if they are replacing it with something similar to Bird Rights like in the NBA I can see how it might fly.

    If that happens it will be one sad trade deadline. Half seasons of Springer, Gausman, Varsho, Bieber aren't going to net a whole lot.

    Having other sports to talk about would be welcome now, if only for the fact that talking about and watching the Jays is depressing as f***.

    I agree with what yoyr saying about Gimenez as a whole, except the part where his offenseive numbers are more magnified becasue of everyone elses struggles. Nobody expected Gimenez to be a star with the bat. Springer, Vlad, and to a lesser extent Kirk (injury excuse) are the reason the offense is struggling. By wRC+ Vlad is hitting like 50 points below what he should be hitting as a baseline. Springer probably 30, Gimenez being 5-10 below is not much of a needle mover. Barger being out also kinda sucks but at least Pinango (112) and Sanchez (107) have been holding their own and contributing with the bat and basically matching or slightky exceeding Barger's projections despite the circus they are defensively.

    Yeah who knows really... i just dont understand how a hitter like Vlad is happy with his results and isnt doing everything under the sun to try and figure out what he was doing differently in the playoffs last year vs now. It's a night and day difference in not just stats, but underlying skill numbers as well.

    I dunno, i dont think the rest of the teams struggles make it harder to stomach Gimenez at all. It makes ot harder to stomach the rest of the team's struggles. I think Gimenez hitting even close to 100 wrc+ is a pipe dream. 80-85 is what theyre going to get. I also think he needs to switch to a lighter bat. I'm not sure how to explain it but visually you can see theres a point where the bat head is just dragging way behind and then when it finally comes forward its almost like he loses control of where its going. Like the bat is swinging him... kinda

    This. Vlad needs to get mad. I saw something on MLB the other day too with Pujols breaking down what he thinks isbwrong woth Clads swimg amd that hes wrapping the bat too far behind his head and consequently the bat head is taking longer to get to the hitting zone. Pujols himself said he used to go through stretches like this and he would look at his stance from the 1b side on video and if he saw the bat head poking out behind his head when he was waggling the bat, he knew he had to adjust his hands. Im probably explaining it poorly but it made sense when they showed the video

    Never said they didn't deserve grief. No offense is going to be good enough to come back on a regular basis when you spot the opposition 1-4 runs before anyone takes a swing.
